Dropzone Commander Interview – ReConquest Phase II With Hawk Wargames’ Dave
July 5, 2016 by warzan
Today I'm joined by Dave from Hawk Wargames to discuss something amazing coming our way; it's the Dropzone Commander Re-Conquest Phase II.
As you can imagine, Hawk have been working very hard on their Kickstarter for Dropfleet Commander but they've not been neglecting Dropzone one bit.
The fight for Earth and other colonies is a desperate one and you'll see all factions being drawn into the conflict. You won't be missed out no matter who you play!
In this show you're going to see some amazing new features, ships, characters, artwork and whatever else Dave allows us to show from his awesome universe for the future of the UCM, the terror of the Scourge and more.

Nice looking models
Hawk’s miniatures have always been impressive.
Holy cow this is great
What will actually be available at GenCon? Just the new book or models as well?
More new toys. ..
We will reclaim the cradle worlds for the PHR
Am I the only person who noticed the microphone/sound issues – they were intermittent but annoying when the content it so interesting.
Great to see some PHR spaceships in the artwork – (hint hint hint)
I like that Dave had a chronology and a story arc to tell. A universe that lives and evolves is so much more interesting than one that stands still.
I noticed the mic issues too, they were the same on the weekender…
@dorthonion , @lorddraconiroth We’re still working through the new mics, the noise was coming from Warren’s reciever. It’s an issue we’re aware of and working on to improve as always 🙂
Apologies for any inconvenience.
Jeez, anyone should be hard pressed to not notice the noise. It’s not convenient. That’s all.
BoW have to try and test things as anyone has to. The other option would have been scratching that video or parts of it. Maybe re-doing it at some point later. Or not at all. I believe that would not have been preferrable.
that character art is stunning stuff ,really evocative scifi .
great placement by the way ,a lot of infinity players on beasts of war this week .
got to be an eye opener for some to see the great things hawk are doing at this scale .
really excited for this one , keep up the good work.
always nice to see daves on the show , you are officially cool mate.
you can see the twinkle in warrens eye when dropzone/dropfleet is on the table.
Dropfleet opened my eyes to Dropzone. I’d thought a space battle game was something Infinity lacked. Just ordered the space station pack for it today 😀
Audio quality on all recent vids is poor guys
Yeah were working through a number of different equipment options, unfortunately issues can decide to only come to the fore after quite a while of recording.
Anyway, weve some more to test this weekend, and hopefully well get it nailed soon 🙂
Hi
Not a winge, just a bit of constructive feedback, on the subject I use an Amazon kindle fire, and sometimes the auto detect system you use on your on site vids, falls over and will not launch. Yet all video on other sites, including your you tube site work fine, any hints?
dropzone/fleet commander is big enough to support a podcast these days . any chance of seeing that happen at some stage if its not already happening.
there is the Orbital Bombardment podcast
There’s the First Wave podcast as well:
http://firstwave.podbean.com/
– though they haven’t done a episode for a while. Orbital Bombardment is still the place start.
And I thought Red Veil Week was the cool thing to watch this week. 🙂
I could not have said it better
It seems to be Warrens mic only, Justins audio seemed okay during the weekender. Maybe low battery or where it is attached?
Sounds like my pledge for dropfleet should arrive around the time this ships. Happy days
Well all i can say is so far i am just loving the Thunderwagons, those Missiles are just what every resistance player needs:-)
Roll on the Typhoons….
So after phase 2 comes out we’ll get a 28mm spec ops game set in the Dropzone universe right, right…..right!…. RIGHT! Love the lore of dropzone, but the smile scale keeps me away(I do t have room for scenery and I can only just paint 28mm figs let alone something smaller), would love a larger scale skirmish game to get involved in the universe. Think about it…. The Idris Elba resistance guy and his marines could get some full on face time 🙂 Who doesn’t want a 28mm scale razor worm (Or any of the infantry really) Can then play… Read more »
God i hope not, the idea of using 28mm in this universe just sucks there are already enough 28mm games out there. let us small scale junkies have our domain;-)
But we can share!
And in sharing and jolly cooperation we could make the universe a better place!!!!
:p
I think Dave has a lot more planned for DZC after phase 2 and with Dropfleet i think any other game is likely to be a lobg way off
I don’t even need a game…….
I don’t seriously think there will be 28mm game. (There’s nothing on the horizon re that from hawk) but Just a couple of 28mm scourge minis (like the PHR walker they’ve done) would scratch my dropitch and make me a poorer man. 🙂
They obviously have a lot planned, hopefully I’ll get my dropwish in the not to distant future but I’m not going to hold my breath. 🙂
There is a 28mm Archangel planed I know
To go with the Ares that is already out there

Ha ha, I would love to see some more 28mm miniatures too. I don’t particularly want Hawk to get distracted by doing a new game, but yeah, the miniatures would be amazing. Would love to see some Scourge warriors and Destroyers. It might make a good ‘board gamey’ type game. Sort of like Space Hulk is a very specific kind of battle, you could play a room by room building battle. One thing that would count against it though is the way forces are organised and deploy. 15 marines in an APC often operating on their own. 6 Destroyers, also… Read more »
I guess a way it would work is having it like a building searching for objectives amd such like with two opposing forces of equal strength
@commodorerob – that’s what I was thinking re: like a board game.
But it still doesn’t get around the problem of a force being a single unit with multiple guys all equipped the same rather than being an interesting variety of fighters like you tend to have in a skirmish game.
Dave’s enthusiasm is always infectious and a joy to watch. Very much looking forward to Phase II, especially having finally admitted defeat and picked up a Resistance force.
Well done that man:-)
all the new stuff looks great.
Hawk continues to blow me away with their releases, just when I’m thinking Dropfleet on the horizon we now get this added heap of goodness to Dropzone
Dave don’t know how to rest
So if someone were getting into DZC at this point, which rules are the rules (definitive, not experimental or beta, etc) they’d need to get them going and up to speed? I’ve read that the in-print books are outdated (I have one that came in a 2 player box) but life happened and I never got into Reconquest Phase 1…. What would I need to bring me totally up to date?
The books are still good, but they been FAQed – Both the 1.0 and the 1.1
http://www.hawkwargames.com/blogs/errata
Experimental rules are just that the way new units are tested before they are added to books
So the 2 player set and the FAQ and you are good to go – add the Reconquest books for new fluff/units/add on optional rules
@risenstar – What @rasmus said. If you start with the starter set and the FAQ (there’s not a lot of it) you’ll have plenty to keep you occupied for a while. You’ll have a lot of fun playing with just the units in the original book, and unless you’re superhuman it’ll take you a while to collect and try out stuff anyway. Of course, if you want to include newer units, or you want to play the Resistance, then you’ll need to get Reconquest Phase I. Which has very recently been reprinted with the FAQs included. You will want to… Read more »
Very nice great stuff
Cannot wait for this! I am so excited! I will most likely charge the Hawk booth the first day at GenCon to get my copy 🙂
Curious: Will there ever be anything from the perspective of the PHR, Scourge, Resistance, or Shaltari? Or will all book products always be from the UCM perspective? I would love to see this world fleshed out more from the views of the other factions.
Mmmmmmmmm I want a Broadsword! I’ve been wondering where the new book was so this was a lovely surprise. I’ve been hoping we’d hear a bit more from the other factions points of view. We know the Shaltari have lots of different tribes but other than colours and a little early history with earth we have nothing else.
Red Vengeance eh, I have a new Phoenix waiting to be assembled …
Stunning pictures, this will be awesome!
thanks for the heads up on the podcasts
The long wait is almost over! Amazing! I can’t wait to read the latest on the setting. And am really looking forward to the new artwork of the cradle worlds. I actually hope that the narrative continues to be told from the UCM perspective. I think it makes the story stronger and keeps the mystery much more. It’s true we only have hints at the motivations of the other factions, but those hints are plenty to be getting on with. And as cool as the setting is, it is still a relatively new and unexplored and undeveloped one. Looking at… Read more »
totally agree there keep the narrative strong build the story, but there is always opportunities to build on that later. Dave has it all planned out in his head.
Liam Neeson and Idris Elba lookalike characters
Waiting on my Dropfleet kickstarter… But happy to see that Dropzone is also still moving forward and not being neglected at the same time. One of the most disappointing things for a smaller studio, is when they cycle through their games so that there are long periods of nothing for each of their games.
