UPDATE:
It’s been pointed out to me that the model we got had a slight production problem, which meant the L shaped walkway could only be positioned on the model, with its detail facing down.
I have been in touch with Micro Art Studio about the problem and they have informed me that they have changed the way the laser cutting/etching is done so this problem is now fixed for the final sale models.
Check out these pictures to see the problem.
There’s should be another version coming to us with the fixed part so we shall update you when we get it.

. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
We got the new Radar Station in from Micro Art Studio last week, even before they released it onto their own store!
So we handed it over to Darrell for an exclusive unboxing and wondered if unlike the Housing Module he could resist slapping this off the desk to prove how tough it was!
It's only just became available today, so check it out here then have look over on Micro Art Studio if you like what you see.
Here's some the details form their site:
The set consists of 1 foam building, a radar made of HDF, a resin Security Entrance #4 and a HDF platform surrounding the building.
Approximate size of the foam building:
Length: 25,5cm / 10 inch
Width: 19,5 cm / 7 inch
Height: 7,5 cm / 3 inch
Approximate size of the HDF radar:
Length: 15,5cm / 6 inch
Width: 7,5 cm / 3 inch
Height: 7,5 cm / 3 inch
All HDF parts (high-density fiberboard of 3mm thickness) are designed to slot together in a way that allows for a quick and easy assembly.
Radar building is made from high quality structure Hardfoam.Hardfoam is lightweight, durable and easy to cut with a knife or fretsaw.
Resin Security Entrance #4 has been made from high quality resin.

I seen my new Ariadna early warning outpost.
This would be a cool 3-colours up video.
This would go perfect with my Grey Coat Shock Troopers!!!!!
I wonder how many people will be on wikipedia looking up Ray D’Arcy right now…
Anyway, Hard Foam is probably some sort of polyurethane foam like that orangey tan coloured insulation stuff in the squirty cans, from the texture on the underside I’d guess it’s squirted into an open mould like a sand castle in a bucket, the expansion pushes the the foam into the details and out the top, then once set they trim off the excess with a band saw or something similar.
All those abnormal materials make it sound a little cheapskate, although you can’t blame them – would you rather spend more or less on making the same model?
Nice bit o’ terrain you got there, gotta love Ray :D, but shame you stuck the walk way upside down 😛
Had a quick chat with Darrell about this and a look at the model. Turns out on the model we have the walk way can only go on as Darrell as added it. So no eye sight test for Darrell after all!!! 🙂
So there’s why @thesupremeauthority
Ah right m’k, whilst that’s a bit silly on their behalf, i do understated that mistakes (from when I’ve used a laser cutter to build my own stuff) like that can slip though especially when its engraved detail, but I’m glad to see that they’ve taken that on board as a side from that blunder, it does look like a nice large and solid piece of terrain.
Thanks Darrell, this explains how Ray D’Arcy found Zig and Zag! 🙂
looks good, and the manufacturing processes for the wood and foam pieces are quite fascinating to me, id be curious on how the wood pieces are done.
I believe the wood pieces are made with magic or sharks with laser beams on the heads.
Sounds credible.
Its done by drawing your design on a CAD programme ( i used techsoft) then you export said design to another programme, that sends it to the laser cutter which cuts out the design. now the awesome thing with it is that you can colour different lines to do different things like “cut though” or “engrave” which gives nice crisp detail once highlighted. I wish i had a personal one as building terrain with it would be fantastic, just down to the ease of duplicating the design quickly. but at something stupid like £5k ish for a cutter that could… Read more »
its expensive on account of all those frickkin laser beams attached to the aquatic entities needed for the tech to work
I saw a cool variant that used super high pressure liquid to cut any material
This would look great on my forest gaming table. Might pick up a couple of them.
When i see the radar station i must think of the radar station of Endor in Star-Wars
RADAR – invented by Ray D’Arcy? Well.. I have heard different things but whatever! Maybe they teach different things in other parts of the world. You’re kinda foster? ;D *just joking* My option to this piece: Well… I’m a little torn by MAS, cause they make mostly incredible nice stuff but on the other hand it freakin’ expencive. Sometimes I ask myself “… THIS cost how much??”, ’cause I just can’t beliefe. I dont the see ratio. So I guess it’s going to be the same on this nice piece of obstacle. I mean… It’s what 80% just foam? Okay… Read more »
I guess the price is down to the manufacturing tech is i know a laser cutter is ruddy pricey and i guess the injection foam molder is a similar story.
But yes, foam/wood doesn’t feel as resilient to damage that plastic/resin is.
