Seems like an interesting game, gotta try the quick start.
Great job guys! I quite like how different the dice mechanics are and how it feels like a cross between D&D (D20s, varying skills and searching) and 2nd edition 40k’s over watch mechanic.
Not to mention D20 > D6 😛
Great video.
I’m a huge fan of skirmish games, but I was always a bit unsure about Infinity what with it being d20 (I’ve always been d6 or d10), having new mechanics to learn and seeming like a very large setting to get to grips with.
Certainly I am very interested as the models are stunning not to mention there are a large number of other cyberpunk/scifi figures out there which no doubt could also be made to fit in if more variation was wanted and the same goes for terrain too.
Fantastic stuff, guys. You took a game that made my head hurt and made it easily accessible to new players. 😀
Cheers… it hur tmy head trying to stip it down, while still keeping enough fun elements to make people want to move on to the main rulebook.
BTW… the main rules has so much fun stuff in it, I can’t begin to list them!
Ok… I can … special ammo, template weapons, special abilites, T.A.G. mechs, robot drones… the list is HUGE!!!

Yeah it sounds really good. I used to love Necromunda, and I have been waiting for a Sci-fi game with a lot of detail. But without your quickstart rules and intro video, it would have been much harder to figure it all out. Thanks for identifying the basics!
Also, you mention some cool stuff (which certainly sounds cool), but is there any allowance for campaigns/narrative gaming? or even, dare I say it, an experience system? (maybe that is Necromunda talking, lol)
Not so far. It is possible a campaign system with more scenarios will appear in the next expansion though.
Ok, cool. I was wondering because it makes reference to “campaigns” in the rule book. When it talks about cubes and such. Thanks. 🙂
There is talk about these things, but beyond that there is nothing else known.
I wouldn’t expect a “necromunda” type of campaign system thought, by that I man character skills progression, it imbalances the game tremendously, especially a system as fine-tuned and balanced as Infinity, but fear noth there are other ways to play campaigns, beyond random stats advancement.
Ahhh Necromunda… so broken, but so fun, lol.
Never denied that, but after some time nobody wanted to play my Esher gangs.
It’s true. But then you just forcibly retire your group’s armies. Van Saar were the worst. Would be good terrain for Infinity though. 🙂
If you take care with the bulkheads to block LoF, It is a good terrain option.
Fantastic stuff guys, it’s obviously taken a fair amount of work to get these rules together, and it looks really easy to understand. I’m still a rookie to the game, but i completely agree about how quickly the game can turn around, i was really struggling, lost a lot of models, but then brought in two tiger jump troopers and a ninja and completely turned the game around. We both had control of 1 objective and the game was decided with the last dice roll, which i lost, obviously needed the power of lazer 🙂 Really looking forward to seeing… Read more »
Great, well-structured video, well done guys!
Big thanks for making the game so accessible from someone who’s already enjoying it!
But just a quick note on the “biggest weapon in the game”; the Hyper-Rapid Magnetic Cannon has a burst of 5. Yup, 5. 🙂
I said “best weapon”… the HMG is cheap and lots of models can take it. Burst 4 and massive range are all plus points.
BoW Andy
Hiya lads,
Really enjoyed the video.
One minor thing – your explanation of Face to Face rolls is incorrect. I don’t know if this was a deliberate change for the quick start rolls or just a minor mistake.
It’s not whoever rolls closest to their stat, it’s whoever rolls highest without going over their stat.
For example,
Player A has BS 12
Player B has BS 18
Player A rolls an 11, success, within 1 of his BS.
Player B rolls a 13, success, within 5 of his BS.
By your explanation Player A would win, by the rules player B actually wins.
Yeah… we’re sticking an annotation on the video. To clarify.
BoW Andy
As quozl said, also a side note if you both roll criticals the person with the higher critical wins.
Bah wish you could edit your previous post, the first shooting example was a little off. If you do a face to face roll whomever wins negates their opponent’s roll in most cases. You hit twice, but he criticaled so two shots go through. Think of it as a gunslinger draw, the critical downed him before the 2 hits mattered. Might want to point out a little harder that killing the opposing Lt in the normal non-quick start is not auto-win, but man does it hurt. That all being said, fantastic video guys. Great job of breaking it all down… Read more »
This is great though, I’m showing it to my club mates to give them a taste of Infinity game play.
Oh, and another thing; IIRC dodge requires you to head for the nearest cover if you succeed at the test.
Not for the Quick Start Rules. You can Move as part of the ARO dodge.
We also removed the Guts roll on a successful ARMOUR roll, to speed things up.
The idea is to get to grips with the basic rules, then move on to the main rules.
BoW Andy
Yeah, I figured that (with the lack of guts roll) you guys wanted to give basic impression on the rules … anyway, I’ll stop meddling and just thank you again for the in-depth coverage of this game and work you’ve put into it.
Well, great introductory video…but you did wrong with the dice result in shooting. If you get a critical hit no matter if the active player rolled a 5 and an 8…a critical shot of 14 cancel both shots and also kills a 1 wound miniature….
Sorry guys.
Keep the good work
Oooh exciting. Great coverage chaps. Lovely. The entire look of the minis is just so slick. Minis like these, those of the ‘Mercs’ game, Malifaux and Hordes/Warmachine really make me feel less like painting warhammer stuff…That is a GREAT thing, fellas. The other companies need all of our help.
You’re helping to make GW better by taking away their custom. Because GW will care again, perhaps.
Not trying to troll with that last comment – I promise, just a rather popular opinion, as you know. 🙂
Its a nice intro to the basics of the game, quick and to the point, I understand the rules are a bit modified because of the quick starter rules, not a bad thing, but I have to point out one mistake on the face to face roll. The higher rolls cancel all lower rolls. so for example in a hypothetical scenario of a ballistic skill face to face roll if the active player rolls 12,7,3 and the reactive player rolls an 8 (all successful rolls) the reactive player cancels both 7 and 3 because his roll, 8, is higher. In… Read more »
Don’t want to be too pedantic, but in the Quantum Gothic/Battlebuild banners, it should be “their,” not “there.” I can’t unsee it.
What size table do you recommend playing this on? In another video, 4×4 is mentioned…. but in all the diagrams I see, it appears to be 8×4. Is it a matter of table size vs points value? or player preference?
4×4 is enough.although any size can do. My gaming group plays on 4×3 tables and we’re doing fine in games ranging from 100 up to 400 pts being the standard 300 pts. Size of the table changes the way to focus the match.and tactics. so for example in a big table 8×4 like, snipers and droop troopers play a more important paper. Recently we tried 100 pts in 3×3 tables and warbands become more important. As it is said in the presentation video, Infinity is all about options, just by changing the list points, size of table and/or, quantity of… Read more »
Very cool, thanks for the info!
Very good BoW, never heard of this game before, might even try it out. Good work!
I will have to look at these quick start rules!! Downloaded them at work today. Be good to see how they compare to the full rules…. more players for Infinity can only be good
Hi there, thanks for your help to let the people know Infinity,
sadly your shooting example is not right, the 14 cancels all enemy rolls under it, even if the roll is not a critical. So if his ARO roll would have been a 13 he would still cancel every sucessfull enemy roll under it (the 5 and 7).
Great video. All the rules mistakes were pointed out already and I am cool with teh Quick start changes! I will be using them to do some demos!
You guys have taken the fear of this game out and made it so easy to get into. I looked up the quick rules and will print it to start off with. Im going to pitch this game at my local gaming club to see if they will stock it, grant it Im in Canada. Im REALLY happy that you started this. Im going to get 2 starter sets for me and my friend.
one thing confuses me. line of site is to the base, and as obvious as this seems id like it clarifying. if u cant see any of the base, but can see from waist up of the enemy, but they arent touching the cover, does that mean u can shoot as normal, or that u cant shoot at all the base is totally hidden?
you see the model (well, a bit more complicated, but let’s not get into that now), it’s not in base contact with cover, so no, he doesn’t get the cover bonus.
I don’t know how the quickstart rules state it, but in full rules, your mini needs to see a head-sized part of an oponent to shoot it.
The QSR just require the model to be seen at least partially, that is well within the spirit of the rules and does not complicate it unnecessary.
I’m bored of it all already and at over 40 euros for the 50% reduced box set and another 11 euro for postage, you wont find me buying any of those skinny metal models. You scale that up to 1000 points or about 20 models, then that’s potentially 20 ARO rolls to make per movement of each single model, where 20+ actions will be done in the turn, giving a potential of 400 ARO rolls! Good thing I like my papercraft and other terrain making…
that’s why the game is played with 8-16 models topping at 300 points usually. it is a true skirmish game you know not a 40k scale game.
its is not only the starter, you get a big TAG and another miniature, I am pretty close to buy a box because the price is really good.
