Instead of green stuff have youo thought about using something like Liquitex medium gel to speed the process?
I’ve never tried the stuff 🙂
it’s an uncoloured thing, you can get stuff like resin sand which is tiny resin beads in it and if you add paint it becomes something like the textured basing paints. By itself it’s clear but you can blob it on with a brush and not have to mix or faff around and when it dries its solid with a bit of texture off the brush strokes. A quicker, cheaper basing alternative
I use it on very small miniatures as it’s easy to get it to go round the base and get quite flat so it gdoesnt overwhelm the figures. Vajello pumice works well also
Very well done. The army looks awesome.
Only I would have made custom transfers for the cavalry.
More in line with the army standard.
Hope you do do that for the tank.
They are lucking gorgeous. Love the different stickers for the banners, It ads an extra detail to the army.
Maybe some colour lines running diagonally? At least for the sargent I think it might look cool. Yellow lion white stripes, white fist yellow stripes or all the same colour?
The Lascannon batteries are my favourites. They are the perfect mix between ancient Napoleonic and 40k. Great job with those John.
With the basing done it will be astonoshing.
I’m all for this approach. It’s what I do with most minis with integral bases – even those I mix with minis without like Warlord’s plastic and metal WW2 figures. They all look fine together.
I plan chop the bases off to use textured bases for Gangs of Rome, but that’s a few minis, not an entire army.
I find Polyfilla a good material: cheap and reasonably quick-drying.
I have a tub of poly mixed with black and brown acrylic so if I suffer chips I don’t have to worry about the dreaded white shining through
I’m really stealing that idea.
Nice! The pennants really ratchet up the battlefield presence of the cavalry. I like the difference of the decals between squads. It gives a distinct identity to each cav squad and would allow for some healthy inter-squad rivalry. The men standing on slight rises might seem a little odd looking, but if you are doing swampy, muddy bases then it would make sense that the troops would go out of their way to try and stand on the highest/driest ground they could find. 😉 I’ve been a little quiet on the feedback because you’ve been doing it all right, and… Read more »
Looking good, mate! The different transfers on the pennants are a good touch. When I have time, I typically do the same this as you for hiding the lip on integral bases – greenstuff. If I am pressed for time, I run a bead of super glue around the “hollow” and glue in a layer of sand. Once that dries (while I’m doing other stuff), I come back and glue the basing texture (sand/gravel) on. If I am REALLY pressed for time, I don’t worry about filling the hollow at all and just hide it with tufts and flock ;… Read more »
I think I was thinking along the same lines as you Dave, only I’ve managed to bung every idea you use almost into one thought!
Tufts are going to be the savior here I think if any of the “mounds” look too obvious.
I love those pennants! Well done!
As several others have already said those pennants came out fantastic. I’m looking forward to seeing the whole thing based and ranked up.
Usually just use sand or kitty litter to disguise the height difference created by metal bases like this. Super glue for speed. Then once happy with the level use pva and go over the sand / litter, using the flock or materials I want to finish with. Green stuff isn’t that expensive, but would feel that using it as a filler when I will likely never see it on the base at the end feels a bit of a waste of potential sculpting and conversion material. You can see it is going to do the job perfectly, so I guess… Read more »
nice one.
