Hot New Warmachine Tips! | Protect Your Warcaster
December 20, 2010 by dignity
Today Andy has Vishal in the studio with him to start on a new series of tips videos for Warmachine, this first one covers the basics of how to hide your Warcaster from enemy fire, hope you guys enjoy it.

Great, I was waiting for these!
grate job andy can’t wait for the next one .
If you keep this up, I might actually play one day instead of just paint… If I’m confident enough.
I also like Andy’s beard…
And of course, I bid you welcome, Vishal ! You seem like a friendly chap, and I hope to see more vids from you in the future.
Can any units or solos pick off targets even when they are within that half inch rule? Sort of like a sniper attack.
Also when a warcaster or warlock is highly protected by his jacks/beasts can you force them to scatter or clear a way so you can focus on the leader?
Im just seeking as much insight before I play my first game witch is soon.
Yes they can. Arcing Fire allows you to shoot through enemy models, but you can still move to get a better LoS.
Placement is everything. Against “shooty armies” (i.e. those with lots of single target ranged attacks), you are better with a tight formation, with big models blocking LoS to smaller models. While against “bomber armies” (i.e. those with AoE shooting) you need to spread out, so the AoEs are less effective.
Then there are “melee armies”… but that’s a story for another day.

This is why I like Ol’ Rowdy!
Great video, I like the focus on actual tactics that we can use or should be aware of. Keep ’em coming.
There’s plenty more to come…. plus some new vids using the reconfigured set 😉 … stay tuned!

Cool… I’m still considering this game instead of just another army for 40k, so these vids might help me understand the game better.I’m still having a hard time picking one of the forces (Khador and Dwarven Mercs are my faves) but this I just got to figure out myself when/if I decide to start my force.
I am not very knowledgeable about the game, but it seems like you would have alot more variety and better models with Khador. I imagine there would be a lot of carbon copies with a dwarf force due to the fact they have less models and units.
The Searforge Commission (the Rhulic/Dwarf faction) currently have 2 (faction only) Warcasters, 6 (faction only) warjacks, 4 dedicated units (which can work some other factions) and 5 solos (who can also work for other factions). There may not be a great deal of choice, but for a beginner, it’s less daunting to collect than a huge faction like Khador. What’s more, by starting with Mercs, you can expand into an allied faction (for Rhulic that’s Cygnar or Khador) very easily, as you can still use your Mercs stuff while you’re collecting the second faction. I think it’s a good choice…… Read more »
Thanks for the tip Andy. I have always wanted to do a dwarf army… When I started 40k there wasn’t such an option. The squats are totally outdated and look silly IMHO. And they somehow don’t fit the greater picture of 40k for me. I’m still thinking of starting a WH Dwaves force but some of the models look kind of ‘meh’ at the moment so I’d rather wait for an update for a while. And then came Warmachine. Khador was my first choice because I kind of like the soviet/russian style of this army. But when I realised they… Read more »
Gorten Grundback (the Searforge Warcaster) has a starter set… it has four warjacks in it too!
However, Gorten’s set is less popular with retailers than the new boxes (it’s metal, so more expensive to ship), and it’s getting harder and harder to come by.

@beerogre
I can wait for them to make a plastic/resin one.
Speaking of hard to come by… my order of Dawnguard Setinels has been on back order for about a month now… after it was cancelled by another store. Is it because they are metal as well?
No… it’s probably because they’re new and really popular.

not a bad start..signs of what 2011 has in store?? 😉
Team covenant (they are big spoils and monpoc players) on utube did a nice vid of a demo game PoM vs Cygnar I think …ill have to dig up a link if neded.
Heres hoping my dad bought PoM boxset for xmas pressie..if not it will be one of the other 4 games im really into
Forgot to mention sprays?? I assume youll cover that another time
also i would guess a smaller table would work better with box only forces
There’s definately more to come… perhaps even some dice rolling! 😉

You guys should finally do a simple batrep to show how thing work. AFAIK Warmachine games are much shorter than 40k or fantasy soit’s always a great way to start batlle report videos.
You never know what you might get for Xmas… 😀
BoW Andy
Oh really? 😉
Great work guys. Now you just need to do a Malifaux tips video. Andy I think has some Neverborn somewhere.
Yeah… I have a Neverborn starter box… but it’s currently at the local club pulling demo duty.
I’m not a great fan of Malifaux, but perhaps Warren or one of the other guys might be interested in some Malifaux vids.
My new game for next year is going to be Secrets of the 3rd Reich… so stay tuned for some coverage of that! 😀

Loving this thanks. I just haven’t got my knowledge up on Warmachine yet. This is good to keep the interest up in learning.
