Keep the good work guys.
Love these videos – for me, it’s BoW’s main attraction, and if my mini collection is anything to go by, a “How to Play” video is often the difference between me reading about a game and actually investing in it. One question about HG:Blitz that I haven’t been able to find a clear answer on – in the 1st edition Heavy Gear RPG I recall you could equip a standard gear with “off the shelf” upgrades and I guess that’s how Blitz works too. But is that the ONLY option? I recall (I think!) that in the RPG a Gear… Read more »
The new rules that are in the NuCoal book are you get a gear (or one of the variants) in your squad and you can pay points to change it to a different gear, that has a new weapon load.
The ability to mix and match has been limited, but it’s still possible.
Although this works for the RPG, this becomes rather cumbersome in a wargame. That being said, the number of options in Blitz is still bewildering.
Oh yeah, I appreciate that the level of customisation you get in the RPG is unwieldy and difficult to balance for the purposes of a wargame but now that I’ve taken a look at Gear Garage I can see that the unit upgrades offer a pretty good compromise (though I guess it doesn’t feature the new stuff from the NuCoal book yet).
Hmm, looks like I’m going to need to put together a Drop Bear roster!
Love the fancy special effects. Props go out to the video editor for all his hard work.
That would be the (overworked and under-appreciated) @lloyd … we should really get him to turn up and take a bow…
Lloyd is a genius! It can’t be said enough.
Awesome job with the effects!
Yeah, I agree, not only is it cool, but it really does aid comprehension, not just gratuitous flash.
I agree wholeheartedly! Awesome Job Lloyd!
Only read some fluff for Heavy Gear before, really nice to see how it works, cheers guys.
Another great vid I like this layout and what you guys put into these keep em coming and Heavy gear is awesome I am going to be so broke.
Just a suggestion: When you do instructional vids, when you need to demonstrate the rules, you don’t really need to do real time rolls. I mean we all get the idea how a d6 works. If it serves you better to explain a rule, then go ahead and just assume a result, on that best lets you discuss the rules in effect. Its best to demonstrate a standard success and its effects, and a standard failure and the consequences. If you want to keep it fun and maintain some sheer entertainment value, after you demo the rule, then go ahead… Read more »
One of my favorite parts of HGB is that the regular effects of attacking is to ablate your opponent’s gears and wear down their army. Then whenever you set it up just right and the dice fall in your favour (or the dice gods love you) and you overkill/vapourize something important it’s always a dramatic moment in the game. I can’t wait for the guys to explain the evil that happens when you start throwing command Points about.
Nice vids guys! Don’t agree with the statement that a x18 weapon is just as good as a x32 weapon against a threshold of 17 though… This is only the case when you’re looking to get a margin of success of only 1, which of course you are not 😛 While 2×32 will not get you 4 boxes, it will get you 3 as opposed to the 2 of 2×18, so yes bigger guns do matter, plus it’s easier to get a killed outright result as well.
Great vid! However I wonder, who made that amazing table?
That was me and my good bro @lloyd 😉
ok some points for future videos… use the data cards and script the game play so you can demonstrate the actual effects you want rather than being stuck with the dice rolls you get. The Infinity instructional videos were awesome in that they kept the visual graphics going the whole time. If you can flash up the data card then you can flash it up highlighting the stat you are using so that we can all follow. After all, you wouldn’t play warmachine or hordes without the data cards. Great video though, thumbs up to Lloyd for the graphics and… Read more »
Must not watch……may have to add to must play at some time list
