NuCoal for Heavy Gear Blitz… check out the entire range!
September 27, 2011 by beerogre
You saw a recent teaser for the new Heavy Gear Blitz faction last week, but now we can officially announce the imminent launch of the NuCoal forces! Here's a list of what will be on offer...
Perfect Storm - The NuCoal Field Guide
Here's the place to get all your information and up-to-date background on the NuCoal and their struggle against the other factions of the Heavy Gear game world and their place in the battle for Terra-Nova. The book will contain datacards for the New Coalition Self-Defense Force (NuCoal SDF) and Port Arthur Korps (PAK), plus army lists for all NuCoal forces.
NuCoal GP Squad
The General Purpose squads are the basic front line gears of any NuCoal SDF regiment and as such form the mass of the NuCoal forces. They are able to fill a variety of roles and can even be customised to perform specialist functions. The unit box will contain 4 Chasseur Mk 1 Gears and 1 Chasseur Mk 1 Command Variant, with optional weapons.
NuCoal Recon Squad
Stocked to the rafter with electronic warfare equipment and high speed engines, the Recon Squad are the just guys you need to locate those elusive gears and disrupt enemy communications. The unit box will contain 1 Cuirassier Gears and 4 Jerboa Scout Gears, along with the optional parts and weapons.
NuCoal Fire Support Squad
Heavy Weapons!!! HURRAH!!! Fire Support Squads bring to bear a mssive amount of firepower to the battlefields of Tera-Nova. They contain the largest Gears the NuCoal can field and can annihilate their opponents in a hail of missiles and explosive shells. The unit box will contain 2 Chevalier Support Gears, 2 Jerboa Scout Gears and 1 Chasseur Mk 1 Command Variant, along with all the optional weapons and bits needed to make all of those different variants.
NuCoal Strike Squad
Only the finest NuCoal pilots the best equipped Gears make the cut to become a member of a Strike Squad. The elite Strike Squads are dropped deep behind enemy lines to sow destruction and confusion amongst the enemy. The unit box will contain 5 Cuirassier Gears, with optional weapons and extra parts to configure make different variants outlined in the NuCoal Field Guide.
NuCoal Hussar
Last but not least is the NuCoal Hussar, a massive heavily armed monster with a little secret... it can transform into a speedy ground mode or remain combat ready in its walking position. This is the walking mode... but as you'll see that the transformed version in ground mode is planned very soon.
For those who want to boost their forces, you can also get some twin packs of Chasseur, Chavalier, Cuirassier and Jeroba models. If I remember my Heavy Gear correctly, from reading the main rulebook, if you designate one of your squads as a veteran squad, you can upgrade or swap out some of the Gears with other models. So having access to some spares can only be a good thing.
Looks awesome… But I don’t see the JINN headed mech from the artwork in the model pics :/
The Hussar looks massive! All in all looking really good, but at the moment I’m more interested at the coming book.
It all looks good!
Man that Hussar is massive.
As always HG gets me salivating for mecha action.
and theres more to come for NuCoal!
ah god damn it and i just got myself into finally buying nmy northern army and the black talon army i’m toying around with… now i need more money to buy more miniatures…
Wel got to go more often to the plasma donation center, since i’m a gamer i am fat enough to get the maximum donation, thats almost 200 euro for being stabbed 8 times with a needle within 4 weeks ^^
Didn’t I just found new crysis suits in here? Anyone know the scale of this models in compare to WH 40?
The scale is that the giant robots that make up most of most people’s armies that I’ve seen, can just match a normal space marine miniature. The scale is quite different in places.
The infantry are 12mm, but the Heavy Gears measure between 25mm and 45mm on average. the Hussar, well, he’s damn big.
I think I will have to pick them up and add them to PRDF, South and north. These guys look pimp can’t wait to get the rule book and play with them.
Really feeling the minis, look nice and quick to paint. I do however feel it is somewhat over priced £37 just for the book :S unsure as of yet the size of the minis though. would appreciate a ruler or the over used but very reliable space marine to compare against tbh. I hear (Via the DP9 website) that it is supposed to be 1:144 but that really doesn’t put any light onto the actual size. Would appreciate the advice or a link for my ref. Many thanks (I think, as I feel this is another slippery road for my… Read more »
Just found scale of infantry to be 12mm as advertised via On The Table.
Keep looking, im sure the answers are out there somewhere.
thanks….ooow the voices sound just like me, me, me, me, me…..
12mm? That’s….tiny! As in my roomin’ fingernails!
Surely no? Could someone put a space marine beside one?
Sounds about right. A hunter is approximately 30mm tall and that’s a smallish gear. A kodiak is 50mm tall and they’re about as big as gears get (striders and tanks can be bigger).
Here are a few examples, the infantry are 12mm tall, but the Heavy Gears depicted here are about 45mm tall.

The full color rulebooks are print on demand which is why they are expensive for those that really want them. You can get a PDF file of the same book for cheaper if you like. B&W versions are much cheaper.
This isn’t all of NuCoal either, there’s still more to come.
OMG I can’t wait. What is in wave two??

Heh, well, take a close look at the cover, the only unit on there that’s in this release is the Hussar.
Sounds good 🙂
Will the Perfect Storm book be available as PDF at some point in the near future?
some years ago they changed the scale to about N in modeltrain. before that they where H0 and the suits perfactly matched the krisi, maybe you can finde some of those on ebay or something alike.
NuCoal has a full range, there is infantry on foot, mechanized infantry, infantry on animals, hovertanks, APCs and an MBT.
Using Kodiak as a reference for scale and cost as Mormegil suggests.
Size with american pricing. (52mm + $21)

UK pricing (£14.50)

seems a little steep imho, I know all gamers always complain about price but looking around the forums etc the complaint seems to be consistent. With such competition you can’t help feel that they could try harder 🙂
I’m really loving the NuCoal stuff. Fantastic and cool looking. I’m hoping to pick up a few things from NuCoal to add to my own HAPF army. Can’t wait to see what else is in store for us. @ Broadside: Well it’s true they are a little pricey. They could reduce the price by having everything printed/cast in china like everyone else. No doubt it would be cheaper. But I know for a fact that they won’t do it. They are a company in North American so they do their business in North America. Thus the added cost. To be… Read more »
Guys UK and European prices are slightly higher than the US/Canada as these have to be shipped, VAT and duty both have to be paid and incorporated. We also have to allow margin for retailers to take the products.
In any case… if you would like to try Heavy Gear Blitz and Arena out come and visit us at Salute next year. We might make some more shows before then but the full stand will be at Salute with our various demo tables.
I thought i had seen that transformable mecha before (same transformation), now i now where. Its also in Gundam F91 and goes by the name “RXR-44 Guntank R-44”.
@spacefrisian Exatly. Hussar does look like RXR-44 Guntank R-44 from Gundam F91 when in transformed mode. Maybe some one in DP9 saw that movie and was inspired by it.
If the Hussar blows you away wait till you see the MBT that’s coming up!
