New Winged Hive Tyrant in the Latest Kit!
February 23, 2012 by beerogre
The one model that the Tyranid players have been looking for is the Winged Hive Tyrant... well it looks like you're getting your wish!
The Hive Tyrant will be a dual kit with the Swarm Lord and will be packed with those (all too popular) wings. So get your cash ready for March 3rd!
There will also be some new Finecast releases, but they will be for models you will have already seen on the GW website. However, if you've been waiting tor a release in order to kitbash some boneswords and lashwhips... then you're going to be more than pleased... because they're coming out in their own upgrade pack!

i can see that becoming a harpie as well!
I finally have all that i need to make my lists… but still no Mysetic Spores! Fingers crossed!
Me and my friend made a bunch of Mysetic Spores out of Styrofoam spheres, clay and bits; it was easy.
i cant wait tevegon will be mine. i dont think the wing tyrant will be a harpie as the harpie meant to be the size of a trygon with wings. i love the pose very dramatic. ^^ this is going to be a good month for releases.
ps finnaly some bone swords hope fully that made some to make a swarmlord =3
I do kinda wonder what the Tyranids would have looked like had GW decided not to rip the Aliens movies off. Their earlier Tyranids were somewhat more original looking. Hard to say really.
I loved the early nid fluff- my knowledge mostly 2nd ed box set where the genestealer hybrids where a cool concept and the nids only had a few options tucked right at the back of the mini codex
The not aliens figs however do look nice
Not a tyranid player, but that has a lot of potential as a painting project.
Right around my birthday. I couldn’t ask for more. Looks awesome.
It’s hard to believe that even with this second wave, that the nids are still missing some models. In any case I like that the kit is in plastic and covers all the options we would want.
Definitely agree. Hopefully this means we can pick up the swarmlord’s boneswords at some bitz stores. I’m planning on magentizing my current tyrant.
I have to admit I am surprised the mycetic spore didn’t make an appearance at the very least seeing as how many people use the dang thing and the Doom of Malantai as well though is a bit easier to convert. Still at least tervigon and tyrannofex are here and the winged tyrant can be made into a harpy so that is something but I
Bloody firefox entering while I was still typing we need a edit button on these comments. What I was trying but I still can’t understand why GW misses out the spore which unless you know of sites like maxmini that have version you can use are a pain in the arse to convert while things like tervigon/winged tyrant can be converted reasonably easily and really all these are slight variations on kits already around e.g. tervigon/tyrannofex is bigger carni as we thought with some addons and the tyrant is the same model but also has addons. Ahhh GW your the… Read more »
Who gave that Hive Tyrant some Red Bull.
Two and a half editions later, my 3ed tyranid army can finally be completed without forgeworld!
Can’t wait to get those Boneswords for my Warriors.
So if the wings take up a socket set where do you put the other pair of arms?
The wings count as Scything Talons
I believe that’s only in FW rules. Normally I run my flyrants with 2 sets of TL Devourers w/ Brainleech.
For my flying worriors I add the arms in the leg slot and mod so, that they are flying.
My issue is that the Tyrannofex looks nothing like the artwork and is just a modified Carnifex kit. I Myself, like most people, modified a Carnifex model cos thats all we could get a hold of, but surely GW could/should of made this model more than just a re hash, Im pretty sure a Tyranofex is meant to be much larger than a Carnifex anyway. I also like how GW have shot themselves in foot over their finecast with the release of a plastic Hive Tyrant. If their argument is that finecast is used for all those highly detailed, wouldnt… Read more »
The Tyrannofex is a lot bigger than a Carnifex, that’s a large oval base, not a 60mm, the art style matches the model about as much as any of the recent space marine minis match, take Arjac for example, that’s nothing like the shield he has in the art…
It’s a scaled down remake of the heirophant not a carnifex. But as long as you’ve used 50% original GW product you are allowed to use your conversion in tournaments.
The boneswords/lashwhips, could have been made as a upgrade blister .
I’m just not thrilled with the “winged” tyrant .
