That’s No Moon! Death Star Enters Orbit Around Tabletop Nation
September 25, 2012 by brennon
If any of you have been following Tabletop Nation on Facebook you might have spotted something mysterious. In anticipation of the X-Wing Miniatures Game by Fantasy Flight Games the folks there have worked day and night to bring you a rather large section of the Death Star!
This 4x4 board was created over two days using a vast array of different kits. Sets from Games Workshop, Mantic and even Micro Art Studio have been bought together to create all the different weapon and engineering parts of the Death Stars surface. There's even a thermal exhaust port at the end of the trench ready for a well aimed shot!
Painting was a simple but effective affair, making sure to give a finish that echoed the dark intent of the Death Star and made it look a little bit gritty and grimy. It certainly was a painstaking labour of love though and one that has paid off.
The board will be used for demoing the X-Wing miniatures game and so has been made with that in mind. There are plenty of flat areas to place your miniatures, making sure nothing impedes on the experience of dogfights around the mighty Death Star! It's also going to be a major feature at Tabletop Nation, so make sure you don't miss it when you go down for a visit!
Opening Times:
Wed: 16:00 - 23:00
Fri: 16:00 - 23:00
Sat: 10:00 - 18:00
Sun: 12:00 - 23:00
Will you be heading down to Tabletop Nation soon?
If so, don't miss out on playing X-Wing on this board. Might be an idea to keep your targeting computers on though!

I saw similar boards constructed for Star Wars Miniatures: Starship Battles, though they never looked quiet as good as this! I’d love to borrow that board for a session of the Star Wars RPG I’m running 😀
Hi Sygess, come to TTN with your group and you are free to use the board.
Heh, considering I’m down in Bristol, it’s a little far for a session, but maybe I’ll shuffle the campaign around a little bit so there’s a space battle in the finale. Mmmm, epic road trip..
wow – that looks awesome! man – wished I didn’t live so far away 🙁 sobs
That is an awesome board. I bet it would be fun to play Epic on too (think massive military-industrial hive city).
I really really hope that elevation rules get added to X-wing at some point. It just makes sense to me that 3-dimensions should be an integral part of space combat games, especially when the ships are small enough to hug the sides of space stations and asteroids. Would really make a trench run like this awesome and tactical.
this is just another epic reason for me to ask my local games club if they’ll organize a trip down one day 🙂
That is just….wow. Good job. I would love to play on that board, but unfortunately, plane tickets cost too much 🙁
Looks great. What kind of rules are in mind to simulate the trench run (if any)?
Thats really cool!
looks good…I must say the FFG pre painted minis are not half bad either
X-Wing scale Star Destroyer build begins next week 🙂
