Model Spotlight: NuCoal Infantry & Mounted Infantry
November 24, 2011 by beerogre
NuCoal and PAK make heavy use of infantry due to the large numbers of GREL infantry left over from Earth’s original invasion of Terra Nova. These genetically modified super soldiers account for roughly ninety thousand soldiers present in both militaries. Infantry is so prevalent in the forces that often Gear and Tank squads will incorporate an armored infantry section into their organization. In addition to GREL, NuCoal forces utilize regular human infantry. Temple Heights has seen a mass migration of the mysterious Sand Riders at the start of the current war against Earth and its vassals. These Sand Riders have allied themselves with the NuCoal city-state in an effort to protect the ancient ruins located at Temple Heights.
Variants: In addition to standard foot infantry, NuCoal and PAK utilize motorized infantry, who utilize a variety of vehicles such as locally manufactured Elan jeeps and hoverbikes. Both forces make heavy use of Armored Infantry mounted in either HPC-64 or Sampson HPCs. Even with such high tech vehicles at their disposal, the militaries still make use of riding beasts in the rough desert terrain. The most common riding beasts used are the massive armadillo beast and its slightly smaller barnaby riding beasts.

I don’t think that mounted infantry is very practical in scifi setting.
Star Wars? Sandtroopers on the Dewbacks? It was one of my favourite parts
Why not? Only needs food instead of fuel. Perfectly adapted after millions of years to the local environment. Seems to make sense to use them for transport.
You forgot to say it adds a different visual style to what is otherwise heavily mecha-based, thus keeping things fresh and providing a modelled glimpse of the fluff surrounding Terranova’s Badlands.
Or something. 😉
Of course.
Well think about it. Weapons that gears and other troop types carry are rather powerful. Those weapons are able to take out gear or even tank. As addition those creatures are rather big targets. Of course those could be thougher than that but logically living creature against weapon build to penerate armor is not very good sittuation to person riding that creature. Expesially when he or she could also get shot.
Exactly! The weaponry is so powerful it doesnt really matter how much armor you have if the weapons are going to punch through it. Plus the living creature is probably much more mobile than gears and tanks and would be able to go where they cant.
I would imagine that local wildlife would be harder to detect with sensors as well.
and these are used in the desert in mountainous terrain they can go through caves and over areas gears or tanks can’t go then come at them out of no where.
