Mantic Games Unbox The Factions Of Deadzone
December 13, 2013 by brennon
Mantic Games have been checking out what's inside each of the faction boxes for the game of Deadzone. I've seen a bunch of these up close now thanks to my local store and they are quite awesome.
First up we have a look inside the box that contains the Marauders. I have to say that those bad ass Ripper Suits are some of the coolest models I think I've ever seen on the tabletop. Typically Orcish too!
They have also covered the Plague and the Rebs and both factions have got a brilliant amount of individualism to them. It's nice to see that they all look different and distinct on the tabletop and I now really, really need to get a demo game in of this so I can start having a go.
You might think that it's hard to get hold of this right now unless you are a Kickstarter back but you can find them in some of your Friendly Local Game Stores so keep an eye out for them this weekend.
You and also of course get it through the Mantic Webstore too.

Had me a game last night at my gaming club and have to say that the Plague are awesome in close combat, team them with movement cards and you can really switch the battle around. Having thought that I was on the back foot, after suffering a round of shooting and my plague hound charging to his death against a Mawbeast. I decided to charge my 2nd with agaile, into his ripper suit just for a bit of a suicide fun…. Funny thing was that I anililated the CC ripper suit followed through into a troop, then into his leader… Read more »
I’ve seen a lot of people complaining that these minis were hard to put together? Mine went together very easily with no need of any re positioning (except where I wanted to change the poses). And as for lots of little pieces to try and figure out, that is a bit of a pain in that I had to find a picture of the few complicated ones to see where everything stuck on. Maybe I got lucky or maybe the vocal minority are putting a false sense of how difficult they are to assemble?
Given the sheet amount of stuff that needed to be produced I’m sure there were some at least who got less-than-ideal sculpts.
The one consistent issue I’ve heard of is a lot of clean-up….but TBH that should be expected of Mantic. Their prices are cheaper-than-average but you do kind of get what you pay for in that regard. The minis often look rather nice, especially once painted up, but your modeling knife does get a bit of a work out.
Maybe I’m just old and remember what ‘flash” actually is but a few mold lines doesn’t make something hard to clean up… one scrape of a knife and they’re effectively gone…
Oh, I agree that overall they aren’t bad…especially to models made back in the 90’s. Just by today’s standards they can have a considerable amount of clean-up.
I’ve got a bunch of GB plastic models, Malifaux 2nd models, and some Fireforge knights as well. All three have considerably clean sculpts than Mantic’s stuff. The other issue is that Mantic’s models seem to be made of a harder material so I have to work at it a bit more than with the other three.
It is more of a comparison thing than saying they are poorly processed.
I am glad Mantic posted up these and other images of the various bags as I have a load of them awaiting checking – as in hundreds of the blighters!
Got my big box through the post yesterday – soooo much stuff; esp scenery! Really looking forward to getting everything together and onto the table 🙂
