It's the poster-boy for the super-tough in the world of Warhammer 40K, but are you using it as little more than a hammer? Darrell discusses some cool ideas to help new players get to grips with their Space Marine mega-tank.

Excellent video, Darrell. Nice one. Thanks. It’s a great tactic for the character that I have. Brilliant! I didn’t see a lot of Land Raiders at the latest Doubles tournament at Warhammer World… I think I saw 2 or 3 at most and there were tons of Space Marines armies, and a very impressive Imperial Guard/Space Marine conversion army…
Was your ID attached to the CQC terminators? And if so, must I declare to detach when disembarking my terminators…?
well in a transport it shouldn’t matter too much as you can carry as many ICs along with the unit in a transport as you like. If not you could always detach as you embark the transport, or if deploying in it say hes not in the same squad at the beginning of the game.
In a transport there is always only room for just one single unit. If an IC wants to embark, he automatically joins the unit.
i agree its a shame that the armoured 14 box is overlooked in 5th ed mechanized, 250 points for a reddemer with marine killer flamers and a multi melta is a steel, and horde armys hate to see them.
I agree, I use a crusader in my black templars and its probably the only unit that has never performed disappointingly at least once.
where did you get disembarking 2″ plus your base?
All I see in the rules is the models must be deployed within 2″ of an access point. The graphic on p67 shows this (though for some reason it also shows 1 model outside this 2″).
As long as some part of the base is within that 2″ range, then the model is considered to be within 2″.
Your base just has to touch the 2″ radius, not be inside it. This is what the diagram shows if I remember correctly. So said correctly it is 1,99″+ base from the access point.
Very nice tactic, and something I admit I hadn’t thought of trying, but I’d be wary of sending my lord that far out of the way on his own, chances are he’ll get instagibbed by something big and tough. I’d only do it if he had a 3+ invul and eternal warrior. Definitely might give it a go once my Fists are ready to roll, although I’m probably taking a Crusader instead for the moar dakka aspect.
Not bad tactic there. The only mistake i can see is that the Independant Character couldn’t of assaulted those Gaunts. Units disembarking from a vehicle that moved can only shoot, not assault.
I thought that if the vehicle had assault ramps that was ok?
Units disembarking from a open-topped vehicle or an assualt vehicle can assault after they disembark. Land raiders are assault vehicles.
Finally a 40k video by Darrel. How long has it been? a month? Huzzah!
Nice video but one thing… i thought that with a LR your disembarking counted as your movement phase. so i thought it was like dis disembark 2 inch, then assault 6 inch not disembark 2, move 6, then assault 6 inch
If your vehicle did not move, you may disembark and move properly, but disembarking from a vehicle counts as moving for the purposes of firing a heavy weapon unless relentless or rules say so otherwise.
Can someone explain how his TH Terminators struck first?
They didn’t, both the TH/SS guys and the fexes hit at Int1, he just rolled the Marines first, he even quite clearly says all the fexes will still get to hit back.
My bad:). I forgot they were all fexes. I was going on WYSIWYG for the models. I wasn’t paying 100% attention.
i thought you could only get 5 terminator armour models in a LR?
6 in an LR and a Redeemer, 8 in a Crusader. In the Vanilla codex anyway. The others are stuck with 5 in a regular Raider.
I prefer Crusaders myself as I can move 6″ and still fire everything, including my multi-melta at a seperate target.
I would argue, if several disembarkations per turn are allowed. They all have to disembark at the same time or at different turns.
That’s how i read the paragarph on page 67 of the RB concerning ICs.
I used this tactic in the recent Throne of Skulls competition. I even confirmed it with the other player if he/she was okay with it. I didn’t get any problems. I was more nervous and stumbling over myself remembering half of the rules. The first time I did this was my second game. I moved the LR Redeemer full 12inches and declared to detach Lysander from my TH squad. The guy said he was happy with it. Alas, the 5 TH terminators only damaged a chimera, my dice rolls didn’t favour my terminators throughout the competition. They disembarked from the… Read more »
