More Land Forces for Dropzone Commander
May 23, 2012 by brennon
Another slice of the preview pie when it comes to Dropzone Commander! Hawk Wargames have published a few more images of some interesting land forces in their 10mm Sci-Fi game...
While once again the Scourge vehicles are a little hit and miss with me, the United Colonies of Mankind have a superb looking tank.
The guns have a fantastic 'Rail Gun' style to them and a fascinating turret system which seems to allow it to angle the shots almost like a scissor lift. The tanks are great, but they still haven't shifted me from loving the Post-Human Republic!
Are you a fan of the Scourge?

Hands up who else is getting impatient? 😉 Joking aside, the UCM have a beautiful tank in the Gladius – it’s so long and low that it’s very elegant for a tank. The turret system this shares with the lighter Sabre tank might be for anti-air work…twin rail guns blasting those big dropships out of the sky sounds great to me. I like the Prowlers too, they remind me of this: http://images.wikia.com/starwars/images/4/4b/DSD1_dwarf_spider_droid.jpg They have a much more Gigeresque look though as is typical with the Scourge – alien mecha-spider-crab walkers attacking en masse feels very menacing. Considering there’s designated AA as far as we know (they’ve been shown), I’d say it’s more to do with keeping the profile low. If you can peek the turret over a hill or building, it makes for smaller target.
With the big hole on the backs of the Prowlers, I take it that a weapon or something goes in that slot.
Nope, those holes are used to connect the prowlers to a special small dropship that carries four of them into battle.
The prowlers are only used for closed combat.
The models look really good, and I’m quite excited to get my hands on them. Now, I just need to preview the rulebook.
Those Gladius HBTs remind about Shriek PPC Carrier from BT exept with one less cannon.
As a Mech Commander fan I’d say it’s got more of the Alacorn in it with those flat barrels…
The Scourge look the best to me, I love everything about them except their infantry (maybe proxy some gigered up jellyfish aliens instead?).
yet more awesome looking stuff, can’t wait for this stuff to be released 😀
Is there any information on what they are going to consider as an okay size of force from a perspective of the rules working well yet? I’m really loving the look of at least a few of the factions and the concept of the game sounds like something I could really get into but if you must have a large expensive army to get the most out of it that’ll be a bit of a dunt for my interest. Of course even if that was the case I’d just have to find the willpower to slow build a force instead… Read more »
