New Kurgan Fleet for Call to Arms: Noble Armada
June 23, 2011 by beerogre
Here's the latest faction of miniatures due out for Call to Arms: Noble Armada from Mongoose Publishing... The Kurgan!
The Kurgan are going to be a race of close combat fighters... marauders for anyone who is familiar with the Call to Arms rules.
So you can expect them to be kick-ass when it comes to boarding actions and probably loaded for short ranged blasting too. I wonder if they'll have stealth ships?

The models look pretty(if a bit too purple in these examples) but I can’t help feeling I’ve seen that fleet icon before somewere…
It’s going to be interesting to see what their Star Trek game is like. I remember that in the misty past they did a Babylon 5 game but I think that was discontinued fairly quickly. Personally, I like the idea of large Star Trek themed fleets smashing it out but how close to the TV shows/films will it actually stick?
OK I’ve got a bee in my bonnet and I need to release it, I really like the noble armada stuff I’ve seen thus far and am a big fan of space based table top games, but I’m concerned about the star trek line that mongoose publishing have been hinting at. On an earlier thread I mentioned that I’m aware that wizkids are doing some star trek stuff, and I’m worried about license conflicts, I’m aware that more than one company can be allowed to produce official products (wizkids and fantasy flight are both doing official gears of war stuff)… Read more »
1.) IIRC the Mongoose obtain a real actual license for ST
2.) Wizkids are doing a boardgame that employs minis, it’s not really a miniatures game.
I think it was DC comics that realised at one point a few years back that they had a change of contract with one of their partners for a range of 3.5″ figurines specifically instead of just figurines as it had been in the last one. They then intimately sold a licence for figures under 3.5″, one for figures over 3.5″ and one for Batman Lego. (actually now I think about it I seem to remember hearing this one night on turn 8…) The contracts are intentionally specific whenever people farm out intellectual property, so as not to give too… Read more »
isnt it fantasy flight doing the board game. Wizkids have the Herocliks crap
sorry about my previous rant and thank you @lucas for calling me up on it, I really do hope that Mongoose hit a home run with their startrek stuff, It’s just I got badly stung with their previous babylon 5 stuff and it’s left me a little cautious.
I think maybe the Kirov was used instead of the Enterprise because it shows its a game about the star trek universe instead of the films or the series. It could also be that CBS wouldn’t allow them to use the Enterprise in promotional material to avoid brand dilution or some other unfathomable reason.
Also lets face it, if they cant use the enterprise but they make a model of the Kirov, which is a constitution class, the first thing we’ll all do is buy a second one to paint NCC 1701 on its saucer.
the star trek license is actually starfleet going through ADB who make SFB and federation commander so they cannot use enterprise, kirk etc in anything.
however it should be a really good way to get trek type games in with a good game system.
