Knight Models Watches the Watchmen
October 3, 2013 by dracs
Who watches the Watchmen? Knight Models apparently as they have have just made a post on their facebook which suggests we could be seeing Alan Moore's master piece soon appearing in miniature form.
Watchmen is widely regarded as one of the greatest comic books ever written (although personally I would go for Sandman anyday). Now Knight Models look like they will be bringing us this band of super heroes, most likely as part of their existing range of 70mm DC comic figures.
From this image they have posted we can guess that they will probably be using the depictions of the characters in the recent film. While many seemed to find the Watchmen movie underwhelming, I think it did a good job in recreating the bleak atmosphere and style of the original graphic novel, so this shoould be a good direction for Knight Models.
Which of the Watchmen was your favourite? Other than Rorschach of course.

That would be awesome, gonna buy those if they are the same quality as the rest op their range.
Doing movie versions would be in keeping with KM’s previous strategy. Tough call between Watchmen and Sandman. Both are amongst the few comics (or any medium for that matter) I can pick up again and again and find something new each time. The longer format of Sandman gives it an edge though the final third of the run isn’t quite at the same quality as the rest. It’s a little ironic that Gaiman left comics to write “proper” novels but hasn’t produced anything in prose of the depth and quality of Sandman.
Just out of curioisity, what makes Rorschach your favourite?
The irony of him. Alan Moore created him as a fascist psycho as a commentary on the nature of heroes. Result, most popular character in the series. Also he is modeled after the mystery man style of pulp hero, many of whom are my favourites. The Question, Golden Age Sandman, Phantom Stranger, all great characters
He’s very Ditko-ian (and is actually an analogue of the Question from when the book was the old Charleston characters – Question, Blue Beetle, Captain Atom, etc). Check out Ditko’s Mister A character sometime.
Of course, the Question, himself, has an opinion about Rorschach…

I think Alan Moore should take part of the blame for Rorschach’s reception as by the time he wrote the script, that type of hero was already popular. I’m not sure why he thought people would read it as if they’d just stepped out of the 1950’s. It blunts the ending a little too though it still works really well that he and the Comedian are the only two people who refuse to compromise their humanity when faced with Veidt’s plan. The silver lining is without that, we don’t get Moore on Supreme.
Watchmen as well as Sandman, Books of Magic and Fables are the few America comics that have caught my interest, much less enough that I would wish for collectible tie-ins. However, seeing the quality of their previous miniatures adds to the desire to own them. I will keep an eye on these.
okay please don’t shoot me.
Not read the comics or seen the films
I know my loss and promise to try and rectify things one day
But if Knight Models are going to make some sculpts, based on the work I have seen, one has to sit up and take notice.
I haven’t read the comic, but the movie Watchmen i found very enjoyable. It is long but the acting and storyline were top class imo
Transmetropolitan!! Best comic series ever in my opinion!
Still might want some Watchmen minis..especially Comedian and Rorschach!
I would deffo buy a SPIDER JERUSALEM mini!
Speaking of miniatures of comic characters… I’d punch my mom in the face for the Bill Willingham’s Elementals set (I think from Dark Horse minis). They did all the “groundbreaking” stuff attributed to the 90’s a decade earlier. 😛
My mom would understand… I’m sure she would.
As long as we’re wishlisting, make mine Doom Patrol! Would go nicely with my Mr Nobody tattoo.
Hellboy and the BPRD? Mike Mignola is my all time favourite comic book writer
It seems an obvious one, to the extent I can’t believe no-one has ever inquired.
frankly, aside from putting silk spectre in a more practical latex suit, there were no significant changes to costume or appearance in the movie compared to the comic, so the models should look exactly as people expect.
That depends on whether you expect them to look like the actors who portrayed them or how Dave Gibbons drew them. I’d prefer the latter though I suspect the former has more commercial appeal.
