Kabuki’s Leona Lobo Grows into a Big Sister
May 15, 2014 by dracs
Sadly, we recently saw the passing of the brilliantly bizarre artist H. R. Giger. In memory of this creative mind, Kabuki put out a teaser for their upcoming Big Sister sculpt, a new version of their 21st Century Pin-Up Leona Lobo.
Even this small glimpse promises us that Kabuki will be bringing out another fantastic display piece. However, you might notice that there have been some changes between this and its smaller scale compatriot.
Why Kabuki have decided to cover up the larger scale Big Sister version I can't say, although I do think it helps to separate the two sculpts a bit. There is also more detail to the background she's leaning against, which seems to further the Giger influence of the design.
Still, the model itself has a great sculpt, remaining very sexy and serving as a good homage to those 80s-90s sci-fi action movies we all love.
Which of these two versions do you think is better?
The big sister version is much better. Not as vulgar as the small one, but does a much better job at portraying a strong and sexy soldier.

check wallet .. if it was magically full for no reason i take both
Amazing paint job on the first one. Do my eyes deceive me or did the painter somehow convey a “wet t-shirt”, semi-transparent look? I wonder how the hell he or she did that. Paint the torso, and then glaze the t-shirt semi-transparent over it? Or mix the white t-shirt paint and body tone skin into a single coat that suggests wet fabric, complete with wash recesses and dry brush highlights? Don’t get me wrong, the “subject matter” is appealing enough, 🙂 but that part of the paint scheme caught my eye particularly.
I think the first one is more likely.
Wonderful piece of art, fantastic paint job as well.
Trapped in a hostile environment full of inconceivably deadly alien killing machines? Just witnessed the brutal slaughter of your friends and collegues? Stuck in a waking nightmare of psycho-sexual terror, rape anologues and perversions of birth? What else would you do but stand negligently around without body armour while tugging suggestively on your wet T-shirt/exposing your breasts? It is afterall, what soldiers do in crisis situations, and while Hudson may have said it was a dry heat, he was probably being sarcastic… A technically sophisticated sculpt and paintjob, but this trope again? Would a little originality/a little less misogynistic, reflexive… Read more »
So an artist dies and some half baked miniature studio release a weird kind of semi pornographic unofficial tribute model… basically cashing in on his death. To me this makes kabuki look like a bunch of assholes, or at best opportunistic money grabbing vultures.
