Games Workshop has shown off the complete contents for the Necromunda: Ash Wastes box set ahead of the pre-orders opening for it so we now have a chance to check out the whole shebang courtesy of the Warhammer Community

Shop Necromunda @ Store.OnTableTop
The box is crammed with everything you need to take your existing gangs out of the Hive and into the Ash Wastes, or if you're just starting off then it has everything you need to begin your adventures on Necromunda with all the rules, dice, cards and templates that you'll need to watch your favourite Juve bleed out on the parched sands.
Necromunda: Ash Wastes // Orlocks
The poster boys of the Hive since the 90s, the Orlocks are adding two new Outrider quads to a gang of ten gangers to chase down targets and reel them in with a harpoon, or just leave them as a bloody smear with the drum fed bolter. They have a rough and ready look with a lot of exposed steel that gives them a Beyond the Thunderdome vibe that I'm loving. The addition of a pair of blades between the front forks add to the impression that you don't want them hot on your heels.
Necromunda // Ash Wastes Nomads
The Ash Wastes Nomads finally return from the sandpit they've been hiding in with a selection of ten infantry and four cavalry riding their delightfully creepy Helamite mounts. I get strong Tusken vibes from these guys with a dash of Hardware thrown in for good measure. The ramshackle nature of their weapons and clothing is almost at odds with the uniform high tech look of their masks. It makes me wonder just who is under there, or what!
A Sprawling network of high-tech habs meets yurts is available to make a camp for your gangers to range out from, or to scavenge around. There's even a grimdark moisture vaporator which is key to survival in the Jundland Wastes. I like these with their raised living quarters it gives the sense that ground level could be buried in sands in the morning so unless you want to spend breakfast digging yourself out of bed then higher is better.
There is also a double sided paper mat that has a neat feature with the same scene on both sides but at two different times of the day. I don't think I've seen anyone do this before and now is giving me ideas of painting the miniatures in blues for night time lit only by OSL from the quads and weapons.
The game comes with a hardback rulebook and a pair of Quick Reference Sheets and serves as the complete repository of rules for the base game, covering indoor and outdoor scuffles, and updating more than a few sections from the previous edition. As well as containing all the basic rules, the Ash Wastes rulebook contains a unique new campaign that focuses on four-wheeled skirmishes out in the wilderness. These can be played with the new gangs from the Ash Wastes or you can substitute any of the existing gangs to play out your games.
They have already announced that there is a new supplement on the way that will include the rules for the new Ash Waste characters, the fact that they're not included is massively disappointing mind you.
The box contains a total of 89 cards, representing Road Sections and Trade Routes to help keep track of the routes every player holds over the course of an Ash Wastes Campaign, as well as a whole host of Ash Wastes Gang Tactics for either side. As well as an additional set of blank cards to record your won fighters and gangers.
Along with the cards are all the dice, templates and measuring sticks (alas not the whippy kind) to get you playing as soon as you have the minis stuck together, and your gang can take to the wastes in style.
Do Helamites move in single file to hide their numbers?

I like the terrain for the Ash-wastes an the fea cavalry.
vehicles on a map/table that’s this small ?
I think that is kind of insane … otoh those quads need to operate at snails’ pace or else they’d not be able to make a single turn without rolling over 😉
This terrain and miniatures would be good to use for quite a few other games, but I know it will be too expensive for that.
£180 is too much.
This doesn’t do anything for me but does raise some nostalgia for a Endor or Robinhood Prince if Thieves forest village. I hope you that do buy a set enjoy ?
The terrain looks ok but fragile on those spindly legs, I think it’d work better on ground level.
I was excited about the Ash Wastes as a Mad Max style game but the scale of the map and the first two gangs just miss the mark of what I was expecting. It is also a slight disappointment the rules for bikes, transport is pretty basic standard from the battle report if you compare it to something like gaslands. Perhaps the full rules are a little more interesting so we get to roll for hand brake turns or increase or decrease speed rtaher than just basic movement. I hope they do a seperate release for the rule book and… Read more »
the gangs aren’t *that* bad …
weird critters vs quads ? that is kind of cool and would allow for all sorts of wonderful chase sequences.
However … the movement for vehicles not getting any extra thought or attention is the more dissappointing bit. If this was any other company then I’d be expecting more details.
This being GW I suspect we’re getting 40k light vehicle rules.
Those look nice.
You spend all this money for this insanely overpriced starter set, and in two months both of these gangs will have their own separate faction book come out.
Lost my interest completely. Was seriously thinking about it.
Going to dust off my copy of “This Is Not A Test” instead. I recommend people play this instead. Its far superior.
Also, “This is Not a Test” is far easier to play and teach to others.
Bam ? space bugs of doom look very cool. Think its fun to see the hive worlds from another point of view, and they should be fun to paint.
Must admit to being disappointed.
I was really hoping for Mad Max 40K with loads of dune buggies, bikes, sand skimmers, and advanced vehicle combat.
Instead, all we’re getting is Necromunda fought in the desert with a few rule extensions for somewhat underwhelming vehicles. That said, the minis are lovely so may pick them up separately and use them elsewhere.
Personally I’m getting this but I am a big Necromunda fan and I can’t wait for what comes, however you need to be aware going in that to get the full experience you are going to need multiple additional expansions and a ton of vehicles. My guess is my ash wastes spending to get all my gangs plus nomads geared up will be around £600. With that in mind I fully understand why people will pass because of costs.. its a ton of money really for a single game, but I’m part of the crowdfunding addicted so its just a… Read more »
