Forgeworld Bring on the Conversion Kits
May 6, 2011 by dracs
The guys down at Forge World have been busy lately bringing out a series of conversion kits for us to play with.
First off we have the Eldar Corsair Heavy Weapon set.
This is an expansion upon their recently released Eldar Corsairs conversion kit and will allow you to equip your pirates with some real fire power.
I have to say though that I'm not overly impressed. Nothing about them makes them feel that different from a normal Eldar unit and I think that if you want to base your army around Eldar pirates, rather than being either Dark Eldar or Craftworld, you could do a far more impressive job with some attempts at conversion.
However, what Forge World have peaked my interest with is their new selection of Salamander shoulder pads.
Personally I really like the style of the Salamanders and I think that the decor of these shoulder plates does it justice. I hope we'll soon be seeing loads of your miniatures bearing these emblems with pride.
Any way what's your verdict guys? Are these kits worth getting? Especially would any of you consider getting the Corsairs? We'd be especially interested to see if any of you have any Corsairs that you've converted yourself, as I'de love to see how they stand up against what I consider to be a rather bland attempt by Forge World.

More boring releases that don’t actually fill any of the gaps in the codices. Thanks forge world keep it going!
(hey telling them not to wasn’t working, maybe if we all say how great they are we’ll get some thunder-wolfs, or a legal unit of storm guardians instead…)
i dont like eldar at all… so this models dont bother me… but besides this, the dont even look nice. yes, they are eldar-like looking, but they dont look like conversions i would like to to. if you know what i mean ^^
i think, conversions should be visible, the should look, like the model is something special, and this conversions do not give me that kind of feeling.
(damn, too long out of school! sorry for my bad english… )
I think those shoulder pads are lacking quality. Maybe it’s just the paint job, but in that case forgeworld should be professional enough to see that and picture them unpainted. It seems to me they are trying to take back some of their market from chapterhouse.
Those eldar pics are laughable at best; I’ve seen garage outfits do a better job.
I have to agree with the majority about the corsair upgrades. They are deffo a wasted opportunity and there is nothing at all dynamic or appealing about them. As a fan of constructing theme armies, i would have been keen on an eldar corsair army (who doesnt like space pirates!) but theres nothing about this release that demands attention. Its no suprise to me tho. Forge World and GW are all about wasted opportunities miniature design wise these days. Besides the odd flourish here and there, i personally think both companies are creatively on their arses. Thats why im buying… Read more »
I like them a lot because they are way to spruce up your eldar and be CHEAP. It’s a lot cheaper to buy conversion bits than to get a whole new figure. Take a look at the price of these bits compared to the new aspect models they made. I think also they could have painted them better. I’ve seen much better paint jobs. I don’t understand though why FW is expected to come out with whole new figs all the time. That’s not really what they were meant to do.
