New Forge World Tanks: Deimos Predator & Macharius Omega
December 22, 2011 by dracs
Forge World have two new tank models to use on the battlefields of the 41st millenium.
Deimos Pattern Predator
First up is the ancient and revered Deimos Pattern Predator.
"First issued en-masse to the Space Marine Legions of the Great Crusade. Artificer-crafted by the finest machine-wrights of the great forge-complexes of Mars, the Deimos Pattern Predator has since been modified to the ‘Annihilator’ variant by those Chapters who are supplied with this pattern." - Forge World
Macharius Omega
Alongside this comes the rather new design from the Adeptus Mechanicus, the Macharius Omega.
"While the sins of innovation and initiative are frowned upon by the Adeptus Mechanicus, new patterns and designs of weapons and armoured vehicles are still created. The Macharius Omega is one such vehicle, created with a single focus, that of the battlefield deployment of the Omega Pattern Plasma Blastgun." - Forge World
All in all more than enough fire power to make the enemies of the Imperium think twice.

I don’t like the look of the Predator but the Omega is rather cool looking.
I like that Predator – harks back to the first Predator model released way back when.
I quite like both but… It’s just like someone took a guard tank (with as usual some clear WW2 inclusions) and transformed it to ‘fit’ with space marines.
I like how Macharius Omega looks.
Nice, like them both.
Interesting…they couldn’t get the old blocky Predator sponsons to work with the circular mount then. I like it, but being FW the cost will no doubt be steep.
You can’t really tell from the image, but the Macharius Omega is twice the size of a Leman Russ. 99 pounds! Must be made of gold, then sprayed grey.
Ah go ahead and add more pics to make this post look silly 🙂
Wow I us to own that pred. I bought it back in 91 or 92. And I payed less than $20 for it. I’m scard to see what Forg World is charging for it now.
Just for fun, $20 in 1990 is equivalent to $33.22 in 2011 dollars. Forge world is charging $72 dollars, so adjusting for inflation, GW has increased the cost by just under 200%.
Yeah but the original was cheap brittle plastic, and didn’t have a resin aftermarket kit in the box.
Im really liking all the FORGEWORLD pre Heresy releases and was gonna move away from GW after my Death Guard but now have the idea to do an entirely pre heresy army. Just have to decide on a chapter! Thinking one of the chapters that didnt remain loyal or are no longer in existence. Luna Wolves maybe? Any suggestions? Will be expensive but i reckon my wallet could handle it (just about! Lol!).
You ever think of making your own chapter? It’s fun to have your own back story for your guys.
Haha @manpug but the whole idea is doing a pre heresey army mate.
I’ve always liked Luna Wolves, realy liked the first few HH books. Or perhaps Emperors Children, or one that gets looked over Night Lords.
Check out TemplarCrusade01’s youtube channel; he’s running a Great Crusade Campaign with the Primarchs included! http://www.youtube.com/user/TemplarsCrusade01#p/u Loads of inspiration from other people’s Pre-Heresy armies on there, along with his Imperial Fists, and they are all pretty fantastic!
I actually have one of the original dome turret predators thats based on. It looks quite quaint as it is , but given the new predators are so much better looking, I dont see the attraction of fake old style, I got it with the rhino, because it looks just as good as the newer ones, but , to me, the predator just doesnt. I’ve been very tempted by some of the big tanks for a while from forgeworld, and that one is nice, I may treat myself as a bit of a modelling project in the new year, the… Read more »
Not really a massive fun of the Las pred, the barrels look a little cartoony to me. The Autocannon pred on the other hand is pretty frikkin sweet, no doubt my pre heresy Fists will be coming out of their storage boxes to join one of these…. or maybe two 😀
Dear Forge World, I like what you did with the Mecharius.. But please PLEASE stop remaking the old bullshit. It’s not retro, its not classical, it’s not vintage… It was replaced because it looks dated and something more akin to 1950’s cheesy sci-fi. So stop telling us it’s “pre-heresy” it’s shit. And that’s all it is.
Lots of love,
BoW- John.
I’d really prefer it if they made stuff that was in the codices that GW will either never bother to make or wont make for a long time. The only range that fits with is the IG artillery, and even that they miss out on one of the best things they could give us- proper crew for the Basilisk( in as many flavours as possible if not just Catachan and Cadian will do) that come with some shells, tool and the freakin’ heavy bolter GW forgot to put in the bloody kit when presumably they let the youth training scheme… Read more »
That would be a good idea if they did that; it would give us more useful models to use.
Thanks for inadvertently letting me know that the Chimera doesn’t come with heavy bolters, I was thinking of getting one recently!
@majordutch the Chimera does have bolters, but its on the same sprue as the roof/turret, which you don’t get in the basilisk, since the actual cannon sprue for the basilisk is the same one they’ve used since about 1996, it doesn’t have any extras on it, since it assumes you got ’em on the chimera sprues it originally came with…
That’s pretty harsh, John. I actually think that the majority of the older stuff looks better then the new vehicles for SM (the LR being a massive exception; that old model just looks, well, like a tonka toy!). And the older weapons looked FAR more advanced, if not the most functional (the HUGE underslung SM heavy weapons spring to mind). But no, the Pred there is very nice looking, with a turret that actually appears functional instead of a shell-trap.
Agreed, they’re offering choice. If you like the pre-Heresy stuff its there to buy, if not just get the equivalent tank from GW for 1/2 the cost.
The turret on the old pred is more like a T-62 IMO, the new one looks like a rocksalt bin.
You’d have to go after the artists who did the artwork for the BL Horus Heresy: Collected visions too then, as they started it ;P
I really like it though 😀
Yay more repro stuff from my childhood.. 😀
Love the Predator except for the sponsons… They just look too high tech and out of place to me.
