Forge World Kits Out Some Heresy Era Infantry
September 21, 2012 by brennon
Angron is taking over now!
I've added a video showing off Angron above too!
It's not just the heavy armour that's getting an upgrade for the Horus Heresy. Forge World are also looking to the infantry of the period and bringing you some fantastic looking Terminators and basic Tactical Marines to create your historical Warhammer 40,000 army...
First up are the Cataphractii Armoured Terminators that can be armed with a variety of different weapons. The squads can be kitted out with a variety of special weapons, power fists and power axes. They certainly look just the right amount of terrifying!
There is also this Early Armour Upgrade Kit which allows you to make the squad leaders of your Heresy era marines. Nice to see some retro favourites in there alongside some new ideas and designs. The painted examples really do bring these armour sets to life, taking you back in time.
These sets join the mass of other goodies already being offered by Forge World for Book I: Betrayal. Check out more on their Games Day UK Event Page.
What do you make of these kits?

Dear wallet,
Apologies in advance for the bumming you are about to receive.
Kind regards,

Ha !
Well, that’s the first time in about 20 years that I actually find a Space Marine aesthetically well done.
I’m happily surprised !
Now those are good looking Space Marines. Expesially that helmet design is very nice amd it surely makes these far better than current marines that you get in box.
Every time i ever ordered from FW from the first to the last i always suggested Horus Heresy miniatures and its fantastic to see they listen to fan ideas. What a range this is shaping up to be, even tho u still have to sell a kidney to field a viable force!
They look very similar to this Dream Forge Troopers : http://dreamforge-games.blogspot.com.ar/p/kickstarter-28mm-heavy-troopers.html
i thought exactly that
I really love the Cataphractii Armour, I think I’ll be using a set of that with the pair of lightning claws trimmed down as a jumping off point for a more dynamic Marneus than the finecast version…
I just wonder how well Angron would be in a game setting with how those marines are posed or if this is destined to be a show piece fig.
If you take a look at Angron on FW’s event page: http://bit.ly/P6g1Oe you’ll see he comes on a removable 40mm base and the rest is a scenic surround.
Stunning model by the way well worth £50, its the price of a FW dread with weapons but will be far more effective.
I am a little wet around my private parts right now …..and I do fell a certain stiffness as well ….
Might just be Tetanus.
I really like the look of Angron and It’s good what they’ve done with his base. I think Forgeworld have not only outdone themselves but also the rest of the GW empire. Seeing the HH models, my 40k modelling is going to take a pretty hefty dent.
Wish all marines had armor like that. The iron bellbottom is starting to look old design wise.
Excuse me while I pick my jaw off the floor, attempt to stop drooling, and eagerly wait for them to release a Magnus the Red model. Models like that are the reason we keep giving GW our precious expendable income.
is it suppose to say horus ear marines in the second last paragraph?
Angron looks superb. From all the artwork and descriptions put together making this bad ass model. Actually all the new models are made so closely like the late 80’s early 90’s 40k art work.
Possible Horus, Angron, Fulgrim, Mortarion in the first book. Who would be in the second book? Possibly Lorgar, Carvus Corax, Vulkan, and Ferrus Manus. Maybe Magnus. Can’t remember the order of appearance in the books. A model for Garro would be cool too since he’s an important character in the novels. But I don’t know whose army he will be played in, loyal Death Gaurd?
Maybe they’ll have some kind of “Birth of the Inquisition” army
incredible and exciting stuff, all of it. I especially love the Cataphractii Terminators and jetbikes. Angron looks great too. Shame I am too poor to be able to afford anything like this, looks like it would cost a grand or two to get a decent army, which is way out of my league – hope those that can afford it can have a lot of fun with it, and I definitly look forward to seeing how they’ll paint their legions up 🙂
It’s about time that GW started competing with the boutique miniature companies, and this goes to show that GW can go beyond what the competition can do. I’m am so excited to start to add these to my existing force of ultra marines. Come on Guilliman release!
Admittedly a nice miniature but 50 quid??? Ridiculous! Seriously, guys, Forgeworld fanbois are a crowd to be mocked, and deservedly.
Mock me, shit I don’t care. But ya I’m probably not going to buy one until Vulkan comes out. Maybe. With the US dollar, gas going up raising the shipping rates, $100 for one model thats going to get here all warped is not my cup of tea, or coffee i should say. But Angron does look freakin badass. Can’t wait to see one of those crazy awesome cool-mini-or-not hobbiers to paint and maybe convert him. Would like to see a NMM version of him. And as a serious hobbyist 50quid is pesos compared to all the paints, primers, varnishes,… Read more »
The generic marines stuff I am so so about, but Angron is outstanding – which is shocking as it has never been a primarch I have had much time for as a character. Yeah I would pay 50 pound for it, I won’t rush out and buy it but I would pick it up just to paint. Its one of those that goes a bit beyond a miniaature and towards a character sculpture. But each to their own, some people pay a lot of money for video game collector editions for some naff figurine a thing has the value you… Read more »
I would be more interested from silent sisterhood and other non -mahreen organisations, but you know how they handle those these days…
Lets see if Forge world back yard production tactics can keep up with demand!
