Forge World Take the Fight to the Skies
July 17, 2012 by dracs
Forge World have released some new pieces to help take the combat of Warhammer 40k to the skies above the battlefield.
First we have this new flyer, the Avenger Strike Fighter.
The Avenger is a dedicated strike fighter, intended to conduct high-speed, low-level attacks on ground targets, with armoured vehicle formations and high-value strategic assets such as munitions dumps forming its principal prey. The Avenger Strike Fighter boasts firepower that exceeds most other Imperial aircraft of its size, and its particular reputation as a tank-killer is due to the Avenger bolt cannon it carries.
This vehicle will of course be a great way t get to grips with the new Forge World 40k supplement detailing aerial combat for 6th edition. Imperial Armour Aeronautica.
This supplement will bring you everything you need to give your games that added dimension, from rules for flyers to details on anti-aircraft weaponry.
Do any of feel like having your armies take to the skies and become the Biggles of 40k?

I hope the rules are a little more complex than the simple rehash they put on the website, a Thunderhawk gunship with armour 10 in the rear that can only move at best 36″ in a turn when the model is well over half of that is just dumb. It has crap for weapons so it becomes this really pricey (900 points to field!) model that does very little but look cool; and at such a large size it will get shot down incredibly fast thanks to AA which almost out ranges it, especially if the -12″ to range has… Read more »
I don’t really see the point of flyer models on the tables tbh.
But then I guess no one would want something as abstract as , “this round a bomber passed overhead and did xD6 damage”
Just seems unfeasible to me when most people are playing on a 6×4′ table
A “wings of War” type aerial game would be better imho
“A “wings of War” type aerial game would be better imho” Isn’t that what Aeronautica Imperialis is like? (Not having played either I may be wrong here)
As for the model depending on it’s rules I may buy one, I’m hoping that bolt cannon has some epic effect on tanks. A death Ray-esque draw a line from the muzzle and everything gets hit strafing run would be sweeeeeeet. On the downside those wings are fugly and ridiculous and I’d need to modify them somehow
But what scale is that? (please forgive my ignorance as here) I assumed it to be the Forge World 1/56 which I feel is too big for a table top aeronautical rumble.
WoW is 1/100 or 1/144?
I never understand the design logic with some of these things.
You have a dedicated ground attack aircraft, so what the pilot really REALLY needs are a pair of un aerodynamic Star Wars space wings stuck on the nose to act as blinkers when simple canards would suffice. lol
AI is Epic scale, which is 6mm if memory serves, not sure how that compares to WoW though
Thanks Bigbri
Didn’t realise it was that sort of scale.
Love the model, would be perfect for Dust Tactics then I saw the price – think I’ll wait for official ones at 1/3 the price.
Nice model, but for the price it is a better scratch build project.
Not to keen on the look. Just not my style.
Like it but I’ll be damned if I’ll buy a book solely to use it….
