Fire At Will! It’s the Forge Father Artillery
September 16, 2011 by beerogre
Hot from the mighty forges of Mantic HQ, we have exclusive pictures of the new Forge Father Artillery Gun.
This miniature seems to be modelled with (Darrell's favourite) the Hailstorm Cannon, although it could easily be the Heat Cannon version if you wanted it too be... although artillery with an 18" range is the reason Darrell always plumps for the Hailstorm... that and they mow down my Marauders like blades of grass!

looks very good in my opinion. Still hate the ultramarines color choice. Easily fixed when we painted for ourselves.
@monly You’re Alive!!!!! Good to see you mate! Get your bro on here too!
I like it a bit, but is isn’t scifi enough for my taste. Looks like something we could use here in the present.
As for the colors, I like Ultramarines, but the colors don’t fit dwarfs in space IMO. As my bro said, that is easy to fix with a different paint job.
Love the reply, Monly!
I hate the ultra, arines colour too. I dunno if the imagery is surposed to be so similar to warhammer 40K but it seems like something created directly for the space marines, all you need is an Adeptus Mechanicus Tech Marine and you’re there. The forge Fathers models seem very much a tribute to the old discontinued Squats range From Games Workshop and the actual war machine is a lot like some of the Space Marine artilery pieces created for Apocalypse; none of which is a bad thing.
Amazing. Totally getting a battery of these mighty machines.
Disappointed, not as good as the concept art. The gunner sculpt is not great either. Loved all the previous warpath stuff. Hopefully this will be a once off.
I think a change of paint job and seeing a battery of them is probably gonna be mighty impressive 😉
Actually, the more I look at it, the more its growing on me, a battery of these would look impressive given kits size.
That’s a hefty sized model, given the size of the dwarf! I thought we were gonna get something small! It looks like Mantic have, against the odds, pulled this off.
Theres some great detail on these things, not keen on the colour scheme as others have said, I tend to think a more earthy natural palette of colours would suit the whole forgefather range better than the over bright stuff we’ve seen so far.
As someone who has never bought a mantic mini before, I’m very impressed, good job from those guys.
Might love this model, just need Mantic to listen to people and paint it another colour!!!!! Grr As they look like models out of a Lego box. PLEASE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! In my head they would be a very dirty iron which has been chipped and damaged. liking the sculpts though, have they been increased in size compared to the ones we saw at the open day? Somehow they look bigger, which is a good thing imho. really like them in their pure plastic form, will the heroes be able to have different poses, not that I have anything against this one, would… Read more »
This looks fantastic can wait to get my hands on some, I really like the Forgefarther piloting it and chunky artillery is always good.
Not sure I like this if im honest..mind you theres only the zombies I like out of the manitc range.
I can’t put my finger on why I dislike it though. Its just not to my taste I guess
that think is huge!!!!! am getting me at least 3!!!!!!
Chances are, you’ll be able to afford to, as well!
Loving the look of this. It’s clearly a warmachine, the futuristic equivalent of a trebuchet or howitzer, but it looks like it will fit right in with the sci-fi theme as it’s believable enough as a vehicle, having the spare treads and ammo drums, and the squat, square frame looks perfect for the forgefathers.
Not bad at all, looks like something a crazy sci-fi dwarf would have come up with…so top class in the image department. I don’t mind the paint scheme either, although I do intend to paint my Forgefathers in metals and bronze.
brilliant model but, yes, agree re: the colour
I like the machine, but it’s too chipped and worn for something a Dwarf would bring to battle. It should be decorated with runes and glyphs like their other stuff is. It looks like it was captured and used and abused by Orks.
If you picture it as essentially a modified mining vehicle, the rough and ready nature of it is not a problem… it looks like it’s designed to take a beating and keep running regardless.
Forgefathers are not 100% fantasy dwarf clone in space. None of the background posted by mantic suggests that they are remotely like this. Throw your stereotypes out the window!
looks like a little bit orkish to me, and that´s not a bad thing since my main armie in 40k is a ork army.
Still waiting to see the minis ina close look, anyway
That is the first painted miniature from warpath that i liked at first glance. But a different color scheme would be great (but them we would lost the joke :P). Great work guys, im just getting more and more anxious 🙂
Is it just me, or does the blast shield look a bit ramshackle for the dwarves?
Looks fanstastic anyway!
Ah, good. ive found a Hydra for my Mechanicus Army =D very nice model, i love it
Everyone keeps “moaning” about the colour, but Mantic rarely ever makes the right decision when it comes to colour schemes. They always seem to pick the least flattering paint jobs that make their promo-shots not as great as they could be. It’s pretty much a ‘given’ that they’re gonna pick the wrong paint job! It’s kinda endearing.
It’s a good tactic really. If they can sell with a unpopular paint job, they’ll fly out with a nice one!
Hailstorm Cannons!
Looks great!
I actually love Mantic’s colour choice with the Forgefathers, I really do, and this Cannon is AWESOME!
Very well designed and inspiring model. I’d really like to see the parts of this restic kit…
Some things I like and other things I don’t like. I might as well get the negative out of the way first. The paint job needs to change as many said before. For such deadly guns they seem to short. Grant it that can be changed with plastic tube. The good is I like the shield guard that is over lapped. That is such a simple thing yet makes so much sense as well as the extra track on the shield adds to it. I also like the massive gear in the middle. Over all, it is good for your… Read more »
Looks rather good dispite having that color scheme.
That is really cool looking. I like the short barrelled gun (I imagine it makes a heavy THUDD noise as it fires) and the rest of the model is stunning. The only thing that I would change is that I would have to give the pilot an enclosed helmet, but I’m sure I’ll be able to get a spare one frrm the standard forgefathers warriors box set. And the paint scheme is alright, maybe the blue is a bit too garish but it is well executed at any rate – maybe in the future mantic you should hold votes for… Read more »
It doesn’t seem especially futuristic but I like it!
