X-Wing Launch 4 New Fighters!
February 10, 2014 by brennon
Fantasy Flight Games had announced the next wave of ships for their X-Wing Miniatures Game. Check out The Headhunter, E-Wing, TIE Defender and TIE Phantom...
From the folks behind the ships...
- The Z-95 Headhunter enters the Rebel fleet as an extremely efficient missile platform, better enabling the Alliance to match Imperial forces ship-for-ship.
- The E-wing pairs the X-wing’s firepower and resilience with the A-wing’s speed and agility.
And heading up the Imperial forces with their TIE fighters we have...
- The TIE defender is a straight-forward fighter with strong shields, weapons, agility, and a maneuver never before seen on a dial.
- TIE phantom pilots rely upon the ship’s unique cloaking device to evade enemy fire and pounce upon their foes with their deadly laser cannons.
If nothing else these are some of the coolest looking ships in the collection. I would imagine they are going to play exceptionally well at the same time. You can check out more details by following the link at the top.
Which ship will you add, and how many more are even possible before the franchise runs out of options?

I’ve avoided the temptation of getting into this game so far, but I would really like a Z-95.
The TIE Defender, my fave EU ship. I even flew one in SWG 🙂 and own the lego version.
What did the wookies fly round in during this time period?
hairycopters
Here we go

I don’t think they did I thought they lived in the jungle.
They just hitched rides with smugglers 🙂
For the most part Wookies were enslaved by the Empire during the Rebellion era. Any freed Wookies tended towards light freighters (like Chewie & the Falcon).
Chewie & the Falcon sound like a duo presenting a morning radio show.
Or a tv crime-fighting pair….

in out of space even a Wookie would be in trouble – it does look rather open 😉
Wookies in B-wing fighter bombers! I know it’s not Star Wars canon, but come on. What’s scarier than a flying armored Wookie with a pawful of proton torpedoes?
Wookies? Big Flying Carpets.
I like the 4 additions to the hordes 🙂
I’m loving these. Huge fan of the X-Wing/ TIE Fighter games and just adore the idea behind the E-Wing.
Just wonder though if the Defender will give us our first duplicate pilot as Marek Stel (the player character in TIE Fighter) has already been released with the TIE Advanced, or might we start to see named pilots with variable points depending on which ship they fly?
Attack Wing does that. Apparently it can get a bit silly looking….
I imagine they’d just do the same thing as the Luke gunner card. Stick a * by the name and job done.
By the way, Admiral Zaarin is still a big fat jerk.
That’s why the correct response to him is to slap on God Mode and with infinite ammo and spam his bridge with Heavy Bombs.Makes everything better 😉
Theres an absolute boatload of ships from various games and comics etc they can still release, I think they could be putting stuff out for years if they want to
If they were to do a special “Rogue Squadron” set of their fighters in the custom colours they received in The Bacta War I’s be a very happy fanboy. Or I’d settle for getting Coran Horn’s X-Wing in his CorSec colours 🙂
Disney recently announced their plans to essentially kill off most of the EU content, removing it from canon to make room for new stories of their own creation. I wonder how this will effect FFG’s relationship with Lucasfilm Licensing? I would expect to see fewer of the EU ships we know about and more new ships from the new movies which are set to start releasing in just another year. Given FFG’s production woes, I wouldn’t be surprised if Wave 5 didn’t come out until close enough to the new movie to use some its ships. If the new movies… Read more »
Ouch! George already kicked in to touch the only part of the EU I actually gave a flying monkeys about but there is still an awful lot of it out there that is enjoyed by quite a large audience. I can understand that it’s something of a legacy to inherit when you acquire the license and I can see why it be considered restrictive.. but still… ouch.
I tend to agree with the Ars editorial actually. Most of the EU is total crap. It would be a shame to lose some of the really good stuff (like Thrawn), but we haven’t even heard if that is going to get cut yet. And even if it is, I think it’s worth it for the chance of a fresh start. I, for one, welcome the clean slate.
Can’t wait until they move onto the Uglies or mixes of various left over ship parts.
Yeah either way theres plenty of stuff to use, whether its stuff from the new films, bits and pieces from KotOR, whatever really. There are still a lot of ships from the old x-wing games to go, T-wing, cloakshape fighter, r-41 starchaser, lots of other fighters and various freighters etc.
Seems like we are actually getting some EU ships sooner than I expected. E-Wing from Dark empire comics is interesting choice but I am most exited seeing TIE Defender from X-Wing game series. Z-95 Headhunter and TIE Phantom are also nice choices.
Wasn’t there an Assualt Gunboat in the Tie Fighter game also? Missile boat if I remember correctly.
You can look these up on Wookieepedia however… The Assault Gunboat was a bit like an Imperial Y Wing, with 2 laser guns and 2 ion cannons and a couple of missile launchers. The Missile Boat was one mean…. And was the ‘final’ fighter in the game, made to take on the TIE Defenders. It only had the 1 laser cannon, but had ‘SLAM system’ that could double its speed… Oh, and it came armed with 40 missiles as standard, plus a secondary weapons system, allowing it to carry up to 80(!) of them… Or a whole load of other… Read more »
Disney canon:
Darth Dopey
Mickey Wan-Mousey
FFG probably have a license that runs for a few years so my advice is get them before any danger of them falling to the Disney side of The Force. But then again, we may be worrying over nothing – only a bunch of total (insert expletives and adjectives of your choice here) would screw about with one of the biggest franchises around. Keep what is out there, and add to it, build on it, no problem.
I hope some more big ships appear – the Tantive and the transport look so good!

Alternate paint jobs, more pilots and other goodies. 🙂
