Here’s the Exclusive MERCS Mini for Gen Con Indy
July 12, 2011 by lloyd
Mercs have a rather nice new mini to take with them to Gen Con Indy. At the moment I don’t have much detail on her other than what I spied on studiogiraldez.
She’s been sculpted by Tom Mason and of course painted by Ángel Giráldez.
As usual Ángel’s done at top class job, I would love to get a look at this at Gen Con Indy but alas I’m not going but BoW Adam is! I’ve got to see if he can go and check her out at the Mercs booth.
Other than that here’s a couple more of Ángel’s latest Mercs, enjoy!

she definitely tells a story, I like that figure.
Mercs has some of the nicest looking minis. Hopefully they’ll be able to ramp up their releases. I would love to see more from this game.
Looks like quite a nice figure, with Angel’s usual excellent paintwork. Does seem a little static compared to what I’ve seen of the rest of the range.
One thing that does irritate is that it’s an exclusive to a show that I cannot feasibly get to. Some companies release stuff at a later date so all can join in the fun, but not everyone, and it’s a right pain. Is this just a way of feeding Ebay?
Anyone else find event specific limited edition figures annoying?
Especially the American ones yes lol. We need more big conventions across here in Europe – considering we have a lot of the authors and minds behind plenty of fantasy and sci-fi, as well as THE history in the historical figures/wargaming market – we should be having more of them here.
This figure is the prize for the tourney winner only, it functions in all ways just like the model it represents. So it is not a unique figure like in other game systems.
Was just talking in general really – but thanks for the clarification.
Well more in Nottingham would be convenient for me personally, but it’s just the same problem the other way round. And even if they are in Europe I can’t always get to them. Anyway, why should I have to spend hundreds of pounds getting to a convention just to buy one model?
I got fed up with Alkemy (which is a great game) and stopped playing it in no small part because every faction had a useful model that was only available at conventions and at that point each faction had less than 10 models. That’s a big limitation.
If people do do limited edition models they shouldn’t have a specific thing that makes them important to the game system in a wider sense – its why I feel, and this is something I never thought I would say, Games Workshop have the right idea with their releases at Games Day. They are special sculpts yes, but they have no essential need to them – they ARE a Chaos Sorcerer, or ARE a Skaven Warlord – not some special hero that would be taken away from anyone who couldn’t attend. One of the biggest failings I think here in… Read more »
@brennon I agree it’s much less of a pain when the model is generic, not unique. I still don’t like it much, though I understand why it’s done from a business POV. Sadly, bricks & mortar game stores are, if not dying, certainly not the same breed they once were. But let’s not lid ourselves here: there were never loads of them, and with the internet we have better access now to all the richness of the gaming hobby than we did 20 years ago. Then, if you didn’t live near a really good store then your only chance of… Read more »
Nice looking model from the front, but is it just me or do the legs & boots look way too big for the torso, when viewed from the rear? It looks so obvious to me that it’s ridiculous. Those legs should be on a muscle guy not a slender woman. Just imho that is. The paint job on all the miniatures here is awesome as always! Especially like the male green colour scheme soldier. Nice job Senór Giraldez!
I think that’s because it’s powered armour – thick protective layers plus maybe an electromotive system a bit like the Spess Mahreen ceramite/adamantium stuff.
Nice model. I don’t mind con exclusive minis as long as sometime down the road, 6 months to a year they make is available to the general public.
Figure is not GenCon exclusive it is actually the prize for the winner of the tourney.
@toqtamish so is this a one-off sculpt or is is just a nicely painted prize of a model that will be released later? Or something else? I’m a little confused now.
In general, the points about con-only figures hold true, irregardless of whether this is one or not.
It is a sculpt that was made when the game was released, her name is Kat. In all ways she functions exactly like the same basic figure in the game book. She is not a special unit or unique or special character, just an alternate sculpt that the winner gets for winning the tourney.
Ah, I see. So is this particular sculpt something that they use only for prizes and that sort of thing?
Pretty much, it was for sale when the rules came out to those who pre-ordered but it is no different in the rules than any other figure, just looks prettier. =)
I’m warming to MERCS. The more hard-sci-fi backround, high quality miniatures and low-model count + nice rules is really starting to win me over… it’s a breath of fresh air from all the usual Space-fantasy/science-fantasy stuff out there for sure.
What’s with the Chastity plates?
I.. like.. big.. butts and I cannot lie!
