Time for a look at the elites for the new Eldar Codex. How have all the Aspect Warriors fared in the new book? We shall see if they still have a place in your army list, or if they should be relegated to the miniatures shelf to gather dust.

I have to say I disagree with your opinions on Striking Scorpions. Their new version of the mandiblasters are just as good if not better then before. Think about it it’s an automatic hit at str 3 (ok it’s not super strong but it auto hits so unlike the previous version your not risking the chance of missing completely). It is far from worse then a laspistol. Also 2A on a normal round, 3 on the charge, move through cover, mandiblaster, 3+ save, stealth, battle focus, acient doom, fleet, grenades all for their individual cost is amazing and I know… Read more »
I have to agree with you that Fire Dragons are ok but not a default choice. The 3+ armour boost is a bonus to keeping them alive longer and now the melta has a potential of 13″-18″ due to battle focus.
I would still chuck them in a WS over a Falcon as they would stand a better chance of actually getting to their objective!
The Harlies in Eldar codex have the old style Veil of Tears 2xD6 view range. Unlike the DE which have the shrouded + stealth rule. This make them sort of viable going across open ground (but not much) also with their furious charge and Hit & Run they are have more hits then Scorpions (due to mandi-blaster change). Scorpions are still good (if only 3 attacks on the charge) as they have a higher armour save survivability and if the exarch hasn’t been challenged he will chew up models with Scorpion claw. The mandi-blaster may help..but not much. Banshees, well… Read more »
firedragons really are not good, went up to 22pts to get that 3+ save. up against wraithguard that have a more powerful weapon that can instantkill even wraithlords, and have toughness 6 for only 10pts more, wraithguard outperform dragons unless you are going mechanised. I have used wraithblades with axes, the losing 1 attack is bad. if they had 2 attacks like termies as standard that would be good but so far they didnt do that well. also the wraithsword is a +1 strength powersword (not a normal sword as stated) so str6 with swords, axe is +2 str and… Read more »
A las pistol has no AP as well, and as far as I know it doesn’t auto hit.
So I was thinking of taking Wrathblades with ghost axe and forceshiled, by the sounds of it, they are abit naff? Was thinking about plonking them on an objective with a spiritseer.
Probably going to take the D-scythe Wrathguard then, probably in a WS. They do seem point for point a better option?
the axes are good but don’t use them to hold an objective have them up front soaking up the fire and carving their way onto objectives (so cover makes them I1 well axe does it already) in my experience wraiths aren’t for guarding objectives their for ripping them away from the enemy.
I think it might have been cool, and may be a missed opportunity, to include some army-specific options for the fortifications (not to mention models, but there are vendors filling those gaps rather nicely). Also, as with Kroot, I feel there could have been an opportunity to offer Harlequins as a dedicated Allies choice. Maybe GW is waiting to see how fortifications and allies pan out this edition before delving into them a little more. Or maybe this is best left to Forge World to handle.
Fast shot is new for the Fire Dragon Exarch. He had crackshot before which I prefered as it negated cover saves and also gave a re roll to wound.
It seems a few of us are liking the new Scorpions and I’m one. The Exarch with the claw no longer fighting at low Initiative has changed the balance of the combat for the whole unit considerably. Also I don’t think you mentioned they now bladestorm.
Personally and experience wise I feel the scorpions have gotten significantly better. The did not “lose” the additional attack but had it moved to I10 similar to what it was in 3rd ed. Sure the attack is less powerful but it is a auto-hit, making it an equal trade. I remember back in 4th ed. the stunned face of my nid playing friend when he charged scorpions with genestealers and lost almost half of them due to mandiblaster fire. Also think about this. Charging scorpions is a bad idea as well. First the shuriken overwatch, then S3 auto hits at… Read more »
I gotta say, Wraithguard with D-scythes in a wave serpent is just nasty. Yes they come in at 42 points each, but 6 of them disembarking into a prime firing position will absolutely waste any deep striking unit of terminators
There is internet chatter about the viability of taking Illic with D Scythe Wraithguard…im not sure how conclusively legit that is due to the point at which infiltrate is conferred. But if legal, that makes this combo lethal. Else, in Serpents, with psychic support giving that some serious cover saves makes these Wraithguard lethal. I think the shooty versions are still the go to options over the sword/shield/axe dilemma. The D Cannon version at the revised S10Ap1 guns really mean the Fire Dragons are struggling to fit in my army now. Agreed with other posters, the Scorpions are awesome. They… Read more »
