DUST Tactics! Weird World War Demo Game!
April 2, 2014 by lloyd
We gear up for a mega demo game and learn how to play DUST Tactics! This is going to be a no mercy smack down between the mighty forces of the SSU and the Axis! Do you want to see more of this game in the future?

Love the demo guys. That the models come assembled means instant play. Weird WWII has to be one of the coolest game settings ever. Quick question for you, if you scale up the game do weapons like the 88’s still get unlimited range? Keep up the great vids.
Might have to try this game out. Always trying to get more WW2 games in my crew, but a lot of them are more into Sci Fi. This might be the “best of both worlds” we’ve been looking for. 🙂
I watched that demo from start to finish. It’s not often I do that. A little like with X-Wing, I find DT to be a bit too much of a lite bite to justify the investment. If I was to try it out it would be with DW.
The same minis can be used with both so DT when you are on a time diet and DW when ou want to gorge.
I sometimes wish BOW were not so bloody good at placing temptation in our way….
Loks awesome. And the best thing… If I were to get into it I could use the terrain and mat from Mars Attacks / Deadzone. lol
Cover more, but it would also be cool to hear ideas on how to put Dust closer to a 28mm tabletop wargame. I know its gotten better, but theres still some things that keeps it from being perfect (like silly low range on weapons).
The models alone make me want to buy into this.
This was great but I’d prefer to see you cover Dust Warfare as it’s a much better game.
Imo its just as flawed, but in a different way … it went off the game board but forgot to scale up ranges for the tabletop. Cover rules are dumb, and its still igougo. Tactics, again imo, is bound to get better support and will probably be the better ruleset eventually. Also Paolo and friends have stated they dont like Warfare and I for one can see what they mean.
That’s just an opinion and not a fact, I don’t like warfare but love Tactics, don’t mean one is better than another.
Paolo not liking warfare is a fact … the rest i stated specifically was just my opinion, so no need to get hung up on that
I was replying to Ferbs post hatamoto, yours wasn’t there when I started typing, DT for the win 🙂
Enjoyed the demo the game looked fun and easy to play.
why doesnt battlefront seem to be pushing dust warfare… the true mini game style of dust?
Because it is unfinished and unpolished, it tries to be two things at the same time and does neither very well. Imho :p
Dust Warfare is kind-of tied up in the agreement Battlefront has with FFG to not release Dust products that FFG hasn’t sold out of. They’re bringing out the Warfare card packs, though, and will release Operation PDFs like they did for Achilles.
Warfare is a superb game, so fun!
So the smart thing to do is to go gridless tactics, wich there will be rules for in DT 2.0 … why on earth wait around till ffg sells out of DW books? Sounds like a bad deal and the best way out of it are the gridless tabletop wargame rules.
Well, no-one knows yet what “gridless Tactics” (which, apparently, does have a proper name) will be like. It could be an entire chapter of the Tactics 2.0 book, or it could be a few paragraphs in an appendix at the back.
I don’t think it’ll be like Warfare, though, and anyway, Warfare players have everything they need to play the game today including models, rules, dice, tokens and, soon, official cards.
We shall see 🙂
Has DT just had a revamp? I’ve recently seen the free rule set with wargames illustrated and I noticed that the dice in the demo were different to the dice in the rule sheet?
DUST has great miniatures and the fact that you just have to buy it and play it just out of the box is a big pro, but Tactics seems a little bit too simple to me. I don’t know if it is just the first impression, or if the game has many other rules that add depth to it, but despite I like the looks I really have to take a closer look to the rules to see if I will like to play it. Maybe DUST Warfare solve the whole thing.
This looked better rhan I expected, though I am not a fan of the bullet sponge superheroes.
I bought a small set of the models to test out. The quonset huts are pretty good, the building is an ok starting point for a real house (I hate ruins), but I am a bit wary of the bendy plastic infantry. I have to say they look pretty ok for those who don’t want to paint, the question remains how nice they are to work with for those who not only want to paint but want to enjoy painting, like me.
Well I went from not really having a lot of interest in Dust to a bucket load. I’m think I need to pick up a German and Russian starter ASAP!
The demo fascinated me, and I must say after having read the rules that they are quite elegant. I’ve already bought some SSU units, and hope to convince some other gamers in my area to invest. Otherwise, I’ll have to buy an Allied or Axis force with which to entice others. 😉
BTW: Yes, please DO cover more of this game in future!!! 😉
Hi Guy’s
I have a lot of stuff from Dust tactics and i have a question all my stuff is from the old version and i want to know if they are going to make the cards for that version so i would not have to buy all the minis again ? also looking at youre dice i would like to know if the old dice got the same amount of faces ?
Just brought the Allied Taskforce starter set (waiting for it to turn up) to do some test game play, for an SSU force going to use a 40k Dreadnought as Grand’ma walker, 5x scouts as Red thunder squad, 5x marines as Fakyeli squad.
Don’t play 40k any more (for a long time) so might as well get some use out of them lol. Might even find a use for some terminators for testing.
Quick question for anyone. Is the grid system 3×3″ for DT?
I wasn’t interested in DT but after watching this demo I guess it’s time to look more into this
OK, you guys stink! You got me sucked into Infinity last year with “Infinity Week” and now you’re trying to get me sucked into Dust! Just kidding guys, you rock. The demo of Dust looked like a lot of fun, well presented and looks so simple to start. Thanks Lloyd and Warren and special thanks to Olivier, great job by all, thanks gang!
What was that board you guys were playing on? It looked like it had some gridded terrain, and not the typical poster that I’ve been playing on. Is that custom?
Looks like a brilliant game plus walking tanks who can beat walking tanks? the only thing better than walking tanks is big spaceships like the new dropzone fleet game.
