Dust Tactics Set To Transfer Into Wargaming
July 29, 2011 by dracs
Fans of Fantasy Flight Games' Dust Tactics board game will be ecstatic at this news, Fantasy Flight are to release rules for a Dust Wargame!
This is Dust Warfare, the game which will allow you to field your Dust Tactics armies in table top warfare. Take on the role of the flexible Allied armies, or control the might of the Axis war machine as you compete for victory and the rare VK ore.
Here's what Fantasy Flight have to say about Dust Warfare;
"The year is 1947, and World War II still rages, fueled by the discovery of alien technology. The world’s superpowers have developed unprecedented weaponry, including lasers, phaser cannons, and massive combat walkers. These war machines stride across the battlefield, protected by their heavy armor, and devastate enemy troops with their fearsome cannons."
The good news is if you already own Dust Tactics miniatures they will be completely compatible with Dust Warfare so all you have to do is pick up a copy of the rules.
All though the rules are currently in the Beta stages Fantasy Flight will be running demo games during GenCon so if you're interested get yourself over there. Oh, and be sure to let us know what you think of the game when you do.

I was wondering how long before BoW posted this news- Dust bubbling up for me now.
Nagged with this under some Dust Tactics entry, but I still think a Weird War Week would be interesting; comparisons of available systems, miniature lines, historic, sci-fi, fantasy and horror minis, suitable for conversions, perhaps a conversion or painting tutorial … Seems like there never was a better time to try the Weird waters with all the systems available and all the plastic WW2 stuff coming out.
Agreed there. The figures really do work cross-system most of the time. Videos of the Bolt Action plastics kitbashed into weird war figures would be neat (SOTR heads, extra bits, etc). There’s lots of different games for a week like this… Gear Kreig is coming out 28mm scaled, too.
I read that this was written by Andy Chambers as well! That’s excellent news, I’ve been waiting for something new by him for ages. Very curious how it will play, it seems much more high-tech and less occult than its competitors (SOTR, AE:WW2, etc)
That would be interesting. I was wondering what he’d been up to of late.
Yeah it’s good to see Andy back writing some rules during his work at Blizzard, he was (IMO) largely responsible for some of GW’s best work (as you may well know 🙂 ) – anyway, it’s good to see his name attached to non-digital gaming endeavours once more 🙂
the dust tactics looked very interesting to me, but the only thing that really didnt get me into it is it was still just a boardgame.
now that they are going to release a book of core rules for a forcebuilding 28mm miniatures game, i think this will be on my hobby budget
And thats amazing, was wondering when this would happen 🙂
Everything Fantasy Flight dose is usually superb so this has me psyched. I have been interested in dust tactics a bit before, but as a previous poster stated, it’s still just a board game. I’m sure the board game is fun, but I could never justify expanding it so much even there are only two armies. I hope warfare brings more forces into the fold, even if they are just smaller segments of the two larger factions.
I’m looking forward to this quite a lot considering I don’t have the board game.
It was never “just a boardgame” it feels and plays like a regular TT wargame, just with a grid for measuring, no other difference. I really don’t see the need for this Warfare book and at £32 is to expensive to buy just to try it out especially when more than happy with the current rules.
thats not the only thing that made it feel like a board game, another is the short range on most weapons compared to if it had been a TT-wargame … a standard infantry squad fires 4 squares, whats that? 12 inch at the most? Cover rules are also very light and not something id hope to find in a TT. Its a boardgame alright.
Good to see Dust Warfare finally show its face, and even better to see a familiar name in Andy Chambers at the helm. I always liked Andy and the games he worked on and is another of the ex-GW staffers that I think they were slightly bonkers to let go. Another one has commented on this very thread.

A range of 4 squares for your general rifle is half way across the board, the same as the standard 24″ weapon of all WH products on a standard 4′ wide board and… Read more »
I just hope that weapon range will increase with this release, it probably will but … what has been said to be the biggest differences between tactics and warfare are the reaction rules and the new turn sequence.
The more I hear about this the more it sounds like a system based of Dust tactics and SST. Which cant be bad
