Dropzone’s UCM Condor Now Has A Set Of Deadly Claws
December 17, 2013 by brennon
You know those Condors you have been using to drop in your troops and tanks for Dropzone Commander? Well they have now been kitted out for a bit more bloody warfare.
Now that is a more terrifying beast when it comes into land. It looks like it isn't messing around either when it comes to the payload as those rockets look like could cause some serious damage.
Are you UCM players stoked to get these onto the tabletop?

I’m still on the fence about DZC. It looks like an awesome game, but I really like the concept designs for Planetfall (and Firestorm Armada) better. But there’s so much more being pushed out by Hawk right now than there is by Spartan (as far as Planetfall is concerned at least; FA is getting a pretty big refresh right now). I wonder if the full Planetfall product line is going to continue being awesome, and how long will it take to be ready to actually buy and play? I also really like the idea of having fleet actions in FA,… Read more »
I’m in the same position. DZC looks awesome, but I really like the concept art that has come out for Planetfall. Chances are we probably won’t see Planetfall until Salute anyway. I would guess that the core Planetfall rules will be similar to their other land game, Armoured Clash, and if a skirmish game comes out in the near future, that they would use Dystopian Legions as a blueprint. I am tempted to get the DZC starter set though, as you get a lot in the box for your money, plus DZC is scaleable from small skirmishes to full scale… Read more »
I read (well, more skimmed) the rules for Planetfall last night… Kind of boring. Actually, very boring. I’m getting tired of futuristic space scifi games that start out with two lines of ground troops deployed behind a straight line on opposite ends of a board. I don’t want to play Napoleonics with lasers. DZC’s emphasis on the rapid transport of ground troops and anti-air defenses against same really feels like the shake-up this segment of the hobby needs. I’m just not really feeling the concept design beyond the UCM units. I have a hard time believing that I’ll want to… Read more »
Dropzone Commander could be expanded to cover planetary actions, orbital firesupport and so on. The minis are absolutely superb.
Not sure what the rule set is like for planetfall, but the dropzone one is fantastic. Pick up a starter set and see how you go, i played with just starter sets for weeks and it quickly became our go to game. If you still prefer plantefall well then you’ve had a few weeks of fun for £60.
I can see DZC and Planetfall are going to be majorly competing against each other once 2014 hits us. Even now I’m torn between getting PHR for Dropzone and starting Dindrenzi for Planetfall. :s
DZC is in it’s first edition (v1.1) and I think the rules are superb IMHO. The races are highly themed and diverse, without being diverse for the sake of being diverse (if that makes sense). To me, the entire idea that some of the races are just empirically “better” and fighting, and yet that’s balanced is very exciting. Even if they did mess up and have a killpoint mission in the big hawk tournament this year. To use 40k tropes, in DZC space marines would win all the fights, but actually be a hard faction to win games with. Being… Read more »
I am a Huge fan of the game and love the Condor design so a Condor gunship is awesome.
The game plays so fluidly and the minis are stunning. I have a combination of plastic and resin figures now and they are both fantastic. If you have not tried the system I urge you to buy the rulebook and proxy some stuff and try it out. You will not regret it.
DZC has a lot coming out for it at the moment. The stuff I have seen looks really good. I like the UCM forces. Also, I have heard that there will be 5th faction out soon, the human Resistance.
That’s right, we will see the release of the human resistance as fith faction shortly after Salute with a new book with all the rules and more background information. There are some interesting scenario packages waiting for their release, too – monorail and a big orbital defence laser. There is a lot coming for DZC in 2014.
