Dropfleet Commander – Massive Kickstarter Update
March 3, 2016 by dignity
With the hugely successful kickstarter fully funded and Dropfleet confirmed for release in the near future, Dave from Hawk Wargames has joined us in the studio.
We're talking about what has been released from the kickstarter and some sneak peeks into what's in store for us lucky pledgers amongst even more!
The Dropfleet Commander Kickstarter is still accepting late backers until 21st March, if you haven't pledged yet, now is definitely the time.
We're particularly excited for the modular space station, it's really bringing back the feeling of playing with old school lego blocks again!
Are you as excited for this game as we are?

OH
MY
GOD!
This is STUNNING!
This has successfully raised my excitement levels, can’t wait to receive my KS stuff.
I am so glad I got the space station!
me too.
I mean bloody hell that’s impressive.
Although given the scale of those ships it had to be.
I really wasn’t worried about going out on a limb with it. Dave wouldn’t fail in my opinion to do it justice. I am really surprised at just how much you get to play with however! Really expected it to just be one model that could be made.
Although I don’t know how not to make a giant beast of a thing when it arrives, it’ll be great to see what players create with this.
I also got the scourge add on, just for the why the hell not.
Same. I wasn’t expecting the kit to be THAT massive. Also now the Scourge add-on makes lot more sense as you get to build quite many space stations.
Cannot wait til Saturday 🙂
Really looking forwards to getting my big box of stuff in a few months! Have fun at the beta day Rob, still jealous I’m not going! (we met back at invasion by the way dont think I told you my screen name)
I am totally hopeless with names.. Lol apologies
If I can I will report back on some stuff from Saturday although I can’t see thete being much more info than there is in this video
The 2up versions are completely playable. Take the base model and double: Hull and weapons at double the points. Call it a Dreadnought and done.
So many sexy models. I am so happy that I back this kickstarter.
@dignity you got the pledge close date wrong in the blurb above it’s the 21st not the 22nd
A thumbs down a bit harsh who gave me that I was only trying to help…lol
Thanks Rob i’ll sort this now 🙂
No worries mate:-)
I have watched this marvellous video with a certain degree of smug satisfaction at backing such an incredible kickstarter.
Looking at all the wonderful minis, and seeing the incredible space station for the first time proves to me that Dave is one heck of a designer and an artist. This is like the runup to the best Christmas ever (when the KS stuff arrives).
Wow!
Even though I’m in for every faction, have to consider how much more to get ( the 2 ups, additional space station, more frigates & cruisers ).
Curse the exchange rate! 🙂
I’m going to the beta day on Saturday, so looking forward to it!
See you there 🙂
It blows me away that Dave not only is a games designer, he creates the aesthetics of 4 distinct factions, then digitally sculpts each component and then paints them! He’s wargaming’s Leonardo Da Vinci.
I think he’s only very recently started employing a paint studio to help produce the models with the paint schemes he’s created. It just … leaves me at a loss for words.
Pretty much. He painted (and photographed) everything in the original dropzone rulebook but has been outsourcing since as he had too much to do. The first Scourge ships were the first thing he painted himself since as he just hasnt had time.
Getting very excited about Saturday. Hopefully I don’t embarrass myself by dribbling all over the models but they are all so nice.
I am so excited for Dropfleet Commander. The models look amazing, the rules sound well thought out, and I am a big fan of Dave’s. Dropzone Commander is my favorite miniatures game and this is likely going to rate just as highly on my list!
Anyone else thinking “space whales/orcas” as a theme when looking at those PHR ships ?
If that space station can be made to look like V’ger I’d be set … 😉
Haha, yep. Thought for a laugh of having one battle group of of killer whale hunters.
Just watched the video, and my personal drool bucket has almost been filled up in one go! This game is awesome!
The models are stunning to look at, especially those PHR MONSTERS, which I just added to my pledge.
Cannot wait to receive my stuff!
Speechless. This is going to be soo great!
Just reading the rules now, looking forward to Saturday.
the new ships look fantastic & the stations are amazing guys.
Everyone on the beta rules, have a great time at the weekend!
Me and my wife are both Admirals, and we bought a ton of extras, but it looks like I need to spring for a couple more of those base packs!
Well read the rules last night, all seems very well thought out, lots of stuff that remind me of Naval Wargaming which is a good thing, it’s got that Dropzone feel so looking forward to putting the game into practice tomorrow 🙂
That looks very good indeed, I’ll be picking at least the starter up when it hits retail. That space station is worth picking up just as a model to make and paint, so many possibilities.
I love the look of those space ships, it’s such amazing miniatures. But the modular space stations is gonna be an absolutely mind blowing product. Wow.
This was one of the hardest “you can’t allow yourself to back this” projects I’ve seen yet. Would have used some of these beauties for my large gamification project. A 200 student boardgame, running for a week. If only one was working at a private school with better funding.
Great update video, thanks guys.
Pictures from page 2.
The space station pack looks incredible and very versatile. I can see myself buying packs of these repeatedly in the future. Just keep adding until I get a space fortress, or a Dyson sphere. 😀
And the city nodes look equal parts awesome and cute.
Good video, all round. Models look fantastic. I have backed about twenty Kickstarter in the last three years, and a few shipments have ended up being a little underwhelming. This is shaping up to be a doozy. Well done, Hawk. You deserve all the success that comes your way.
