Good tactics, but was it just me or did the video have issues with the lighting… it seemed like it was really dark, really bright, and out of focus at some points.
Yah, the main cam was a little messed up, did Lloyd mess with it after TURN8?
Nice to see you back making these vids, Darrell.
Against a light infantry unit like IG or Eldar, sternguard drop pods are pretty effective. Especially when you have deep striking terminators. Against mech though, dropping empty missile launcher drop pods inthe way of the vehicles makes a nasty road block; blocks line of sight and it slows them down.
Tactics in rolling dice? You may have finally gone too far.
Very good tactics for Drop Pods Darrell. I have been up against an all Drop Pod army. never faced anything like it before. I lost. Second time I lost but less severely. All the other times after that I have won. I hardly use Drop Pods, so I have hardly any tactics to give. But realy I would go for not a massively expensive unit, but not a cheap unit that will die easily. You want either a small expensive great unit, therefore mediumly costed or a unit of fairly good guys. Don’t just waste points. Yes they will be… Read more »
A great tactic for drop pods against nids are stern guard with combi-flamers. It gets even better if they are salamanders.
i didnt know you could take terminies in drop pods
That’s because you can’t….
I can…
You need to get a tan Darrell, the camera was clearly having trouble deciding on the brightness level. But a good video, made me consider the sternguard in drop pod, either combi-flame or combi melta. would be devestating.
You can’t take terminators in drop pods, but you can use locator beacon to deep strike them in. How to use a drop pod depends on what do you want to do with them. A good tactic is to take 10 sternguard veterans (5 combi-meltas, 5 combi-plasmas), so you can have options. You can combat squad them when they hit the ground. You can pop 2 vehicles with no problem. Or you destroy the land raider with the combi-meltas and then rapid fire the terminators with combi-plasmas. I use 2 drop pods in my blood angels army. Each has a… Read more »
You can take terminators in drop-pods, (well for Space Wolves you can) but they take up two places each. And a friend, i know uses 8 normal SM Sternguard with Lysander, 4 with combi meltas and 4 with combi-plasmas and drop-pods them in. And Lysander gives them re-rolls to hit on there botlers, its horrible against guard and even a tactical squad, with the special rounds.
what happened to BoW’s Youtube channel?
It was “nuked” out of existence by an “automated program” from YouTube/Google… 🙁
I would say that as usual Darrell is spot on with how to use them… I run 2 loaded w/ either regular dreadnoughts or being a blood angel player 2 furiso dreadnoughts. Against tau the drop pods are great I dropped one right on rail guns and had them clear by end of round 2. them other one dropped and cleared forest objective for the game. Other times they are great for blocking pathways and hording objectives or forcing them to unload on drop pod until its clear and then your in position to wipe there armor. Its worth the… Read more »
Nice vid. I’d like to go ahead and preorder my Bow smoking jacket/Turn 8 straight jacket in Burberry. Thanks!
Berrberry marines are stylish. It would be better on the inside of their cloaks. You could paint ol’ Hermoinie’s face on a landraider. She’s the face of Berberry right? Now then how would Berberry Marines roll dice Hmmmmm?
Putting Sternguard in a pod with all combi-guns is cool. They hop out, combat squad, Shoot their proverbial wads and then hope to survive.
Sternguards are most of the time a one shot affair…I think mine never survived the following opponents turn but once, and that because my opponent was a beginner and put his land raider in a choke point so no other units could reach my veterans…and he forgot to shoot at the drop pod, so the Vanguards intervened the next turn….all in all it was a weird game…4 on 4…we had to end the game at the end of turn 3 (club was closing) and my team lost only one or two units…our opponents were being slowly massacred (more than half… Read more »
Hey Darrell can we get a Chaos Daemons daemonic assault tactics? Daemons are one of the hardest armies to deploy and advice would be awesome.
When playing my BA army I usually drop in 2 standard Dreadnoughts (Multi-Melta and Dreadnought Close Combat Weapon) they are 115 points a pop (140 with Pod) and are amazing at taking out whichever vehicle I want. These force my opponent to focus on the Dreads while I move up with the rest of my army, if they don’t take out the dreads, even better. To ensure that both Drop Pods arrive on turn one I take a 3rd drop pod with my 10 man Assault Marine Squad that goes inside my Stormraven. I use this empty drop pod to… Read more »
Another great video, However my favorite part may have been the AT AT in the background. : )
Seriously though, I find that using them to get my dreadnoughts close to where I want them, that way they can stall/delay/stop almost any unit on the board. (as long as your careful!)
Personally, I find drop pods more effective than rhino’s. My rhino’s just don’t survive long enough for me to put them where I want them, with only a 12″ SW movement. Drop pods allow me to surgically drop my troops as close to where I want them as possible. However the downside is that in a VP game, they are free give-aways, BUT, if the IG is shooting up my pods, they are leaving my units alone to shoot back next round.. I can’t remember the last time a rhino survived long enough for my troops to get out near… Read more »
There seems to be a few that do not know termies fit in drop pods. According to BT and SW codex they do, I cannot vouch for vanilla SM’s. Remember though, each terminator takes up two positions in a drop pod, just like any other transport, so no squads of 10 wolf guard termies popping down in a single pod…
This is a tactic I like to use against my friend’s IG army in higher point games. I take 3 drop pods total. The two that come down turn one have a basic dreadnought (melta and fist) and a squad of 10 basic marines with a flamer and a missile launcher which I combat squad when they land. The whole point of these is to bully/distract him while my main army moves up. The real trick is that both turn 1 drop pods have locator beacons, and I position them where the locator beacons, not the guys inside, would be… Read more »
