Doomseer from Chapterhouse Studios
April 30, 2011 by beerogre
Despite any problems Chapterhouse Studios might be having, it doesn't seem to have prevented them from releasing some interesting looking miniatures.
Here's their latest, the Doomseer!
No prizes for guessing what this model is meant to resemble, but what do you 40K players think?

Ha! Got to ive it to them for not backing down I guess. The whole thing seems to lack some of the Ornate details of GWs Eldar, especially the weapons which are very generic looking to me, still not bad though
I sense yet another law suite against Chapterhouse Studios.
These guys may have balls, but they’re not very smart are they?
If you remove this models head there is nothing beyond basic thematic similarities with GWs Seer models, flowing robes over armour is a very general theme.
The helmet has similarities at the front but not at the back and even then I doubt GW can claim to own the design of the front of an eldar helmet because it is just a simple shape and there are a great many real and fictional helmets that are similar in style.
I like it. I will just need to paint it with more rainbow hopping fairy themes to blend it in with how elder should be. Maybe cut the flaming hand off and remove the bunny ears? Those ears could be used as turrent gun mounts. Or is that just me prefering the old style, colourful cone head race?
Static pose and bunny ears… They’re certainly not trying to do better than GW.
Pity.

Well they are trying to make stuff to fill in gaps in the GW range…which kinda means keeping a similar boring style.
To be honest if I had no idea what 40k and Eldar were I would think this was some kind of armoured mage for a fantasy game.
Very derivative, poorly posed, arms are too long, legs are too short, hips are too narrow and I wouldn’t have known it was a female if they hadn’r said.
Is it just me or does that alternate left arm look like it would be more at home in Secrets of the Third Reich?
*facepalm* they really don’t do themselves any favours. The helmet screams ELDAR so loud that it simply doesn’t matter that the rest of the model is suitably generic (it’d fit fantasy or sci-fi settings).
Apart from the fact that the helmet borrows heavily from historical and generic scifi helmets to such a degree that there is no way GW could ever claim it as their own.
Also I’d like to say I don’t support either side of the Chapterhouse-GW law suit, but really people seem to think that just because part of one model looks like part of a GW model that is enough to break the law, which is simply not the case. Of course this is a mind set that GW legal have heavily prayed upon in the past.
Well it looks a nice model, not overly detailed, nice weapons. If you didn’t know of GW’s eldar stuff you’d still probably like it. Proportion is too subjective, for me its not terrible but the arms are a bitty too long. A decent attempt, i’d prefer they practice scultping things properly than how close to GW they can make it.
The arms look fine. The problem is the legs are too short.
This is not helped by the tall helm.
Also both left arm and leg are suffering from the “Spotty Dog Syndrome”. (Those of a certain age will know what I mean! 10 pretend karma points if you know the name of the Watch With Mother programme! lol) ie they are both moving forward instead of opposite as in walking. The right arm also slighty extending forward doesn’t help and so the pose feels static and awkward to me.
Brave, stupid, foolhardy… take your pick. The fact their blurb actually makes it clear its an Eldar I think pretty much covers any ‘potential’ IP breach. I’m not going to cover that because many others have and will. As for the mini itself, awkward would be the word I’d use. Its not a great pose and the arms are weirdly long, some of the detailing is fine, I quite like the bunny ears. However if they’re going to parasite off of another companies product range they need to ensure one of two things 1) makes sure their sculpts are better… Read more »
