From the sounds of it, metal/resin is cheaper to actually develop, but the materials are more expensive, and, in the long run, plastic is cheaper, but takes a lot more money to develop the moulds and such. Is that about right, because a lot of companies seem to have metal models at the start, and plastic ones as stretch goals on Kickstarter?
That’s about right. The cost of making a plastic mold is significantly higher than either metal or resin, so only miniatures deemed likely to sell in large volumes are considered for the plastic treatment.
I suppose that makes sense, hence why GW only makes plastic troops, but resin independent characters, as you will buy lots of boxes of tactical marines, but only one of each of the named HQ’s
great vid, thanks for the insight, but do we have any more clues about the plague lord/deadzone?
Great show. It’s fun to see the designer’s point of view of the hobby.
I know that guy!
I’m enjoying these chats with the designers very much. We’ve seen Ronnie on BoW a few times and he always comes across really well, you almost feel obliged to go out and buy his products on the strength of his interviews.
Looking forward to next weeks episode.
A great chat.
Loving these talks guys. Absolutely great to watch. Thanks for doing them and thanks for the guys like Ronnie to put in so much time.
Please keep them coming, Really make backstage a good thing to have.
Wait – did he just say they’re about to do another ks??? Looks like I’ll be sleeping on the couch :p
In a bizarre twist, the wife loves this ks – looks like I live to see another day 😀
So now we know who the corporation are based on. Very interesting interview.
Yes I think that small operations are starting to become bigger. People such as Troll Forge are helping even smaller project to succeed.
Ronnie, your enthusiasm is infectious great interview…..
