Saving this to fill the void left by a weekenderless weekend 😉
An interesting video – an other that started with marbles and little soldiers
Do you still have your marbles?
No as any one could tell you I lost my marbles long ago 😉
Walked strait in to that one I did
Nor me but I do still have all my old soldiers
Great interview, looking forward to part 2.
I’m always amazed to see a video without heavy innuendo.
Great interview and I can’t wait for part 2. Jake is such an interesting guy and I love Warren’s interview pose! Its like watching Oprah!
I like this serie a lot. A very interesting interview. Keep it coming!
Really interesting interview! I’ve never really known much about what goes on behind the scenes before.
What an interesting interview. It is wonderful to hear about his time at GW from his point of view, as my “GW fandom” was at its peak during his time their and I am sure a lot of my enjoyment of my games were influenced somewhat by his input.
I remember the WD days with card inserts and modelling articles. And Necromunda to this day is my favourite GW game.
Really interested to see part 2.
Great video!
I remember getting really excited about Formula Waagghh!- If I recall they demoed it at a Games Day?
Would love to see Mantic take the idea on- Formula Warpath, anyone?? 🙂
Awesome! The “Thornton” era of White Dwarf is indisputably my personal favourite time for that magazine. Just great content through and through!! Really interesting to hear a first hand insider perspective of working at GW and the hard work that Jake personally had to put into White Dwarf. Good timing too Beasts, what with the new look White Dwarf imminent.
Looking forward to the next video.
Jake Thornton along with Fat Bloke, were my two favourite editors of White Dwarf. Nice to hear him reminisce about what were for me the best days of white dwarf.
Bought my first ever WD when he was editor. Like dave said Jake and then Fat Bloke really did great stuff with that magazine.
Does anyone else have problems playing these videos in there browser. I am having a lot of trouble playing the Flowplayer videos on all Backstage videos.
What you playing it on?
I have tried Mozilla Firefox, Chrome and Internet Explorer.
No issues here. I use Firefox.
Try right clicking the video and opening in its own tab.
Yeah, agreed. Fat Bloke did some great issues.
great interview!!! I miss the ‘Old Days’ when Jake was part of WD and they did better tactical view points in the battle reports.
great interview
This was fantastic.
One of the best interviews I’ve seen on here @warren. I remember the card inserts and the bunkers, and the photo of Jake in White Dwarf when he had long hair! 😀 Can’t wait for part 2!
Well Jake is a bit older that I thought.
Very interesting interview @warzan. I liked taking a look at how Jake became the game designer he is today, specially since I am starting heavily into Dreadball and Deadzone. It would be very cool to see you play a game of either of those against him. I’m sure you’d enjoy it.
Anyone who can get to Nottingham on the first Saturday of the month, except for February when it’ll be on the 8th, can take Jake on at his own game. See his blog (Quirkworthy).
That I’m aware, sadly I don’t live in the UK. I meant I would like if Warren @warzan played against him and have it be recorded for us to watch. 🙂
It was an open invitation to everyone 🙂
Jake’s always a good interviewee. Looking forward to part 2.
This was a great interview – I loved hearing more about the old White Dwarf years, though I did get a little confused with the time scales – (I’ll need to check my old issues). This was especially well timed too, with the latest debacle about the new Warhammer Visions / White Dwarf Weekly. – I’m following Jakes blog on that closely too.
Great interview can’t wait till the next part!!! I remember the Combat Cards. I can remember the White Dwarf Era he was part off. I used to love the little story fluff surrounding a battle report and the battle reports were written in a way you felt you were there….seeing the battle unfold……not any more 🙁 Sigh the good old days
Awesome interview! I remember Jake from when my brother and I started playing WHF back in the early 90s!!!
I know this sounds rather sycophantic, but, the things Jake was talking about in his intro to war-gaming, he doesn’t look old enough for! His description almost matches mine, with Airfix figures, plastic kits, Don Featherstone, Bruce Quarrie, Terence Wise, Tony Bath, Phil Barker, et al. Although I was 16 when Gary Gygax and TSR came out with D & D!!! So probably quite a bit older than he. A great video, looking forward to part 2 with relish. I am also an old kid who never grew up, but I don’t look like Peter Pan! I’m of the opinion… Read more »
