Let’s have a wee recap of the Deepstriking rules because it’s a set of rules everyone should know. So Darrell talks for a bit about how models should be placed and what happens on the mishap chart.
Oh and yes the camera focus is a little off in this video but you can still see what’s going on.
If you have questions about Deepstriking why not join up to some of the Discussion Groups and ask the community there very helpful on here 😉

I’ve found using deep strike in smaller points game too dangerous. You have too big a percentage of your force, arrive late, not at all or in the wrong place. Better to loose a couple from range attacks than have you opponent run over you whilst you wait for the cavalry…
Deep strike has always been more hazardous than useful to me. Last time I had used (attempted) deep strike was with two squads of Terminators, who were supposed to jump in behind my opponent to save my Crusader squad… both came in on the second turn, both were destroyed on the mishap table. Epic fail.
It is a worryingly fragile rule. Losing an entire unit to blind chance is desperately risky. With my daemons we’ve had games where the entire army dissolves before you’ve even started, which is no fun for the opponent or the player.
So what happens if you do a risky deepstrike 2″ away – get a hit, but then as you place them around you end up being 1″ away – is that still mishap? In this case, there is not many terminators, just thinking about ork stormboyz with a large mob led by Zagstruk
It goes to the mishap chart. If any of the models end up 1″ away from an enemy unit it is a mishap.
Last time I used it, 6 tau stealth suits were meant to drop behind the line of chaos marines [3 units] and cause some distraction for 2 turns whilst the big guns did the damage. Ended up deviating too close, did a little damage then got shot and assaulted and killed by one unit, whilst the rest ignored them. Always infiltrate these guys now, really good for spearhead deployment, almost acting as flank. Always seems to draw some units away from the hammerheads covering the troops. One game managed to hit and kill [turn one] a squad of ork lootas… Read more »
These kinds of tips are great, Darrell. General advice like this is really useful to beginners.
Not much choice when using Chaos Daemons
No – it’s difficult to get right. Deepstrike within range of a unit to assault and either risk losing the unit completely or get shott o bits when there’s not much terrain.
It’d be nice if daemons could assault from deepstrike. It’d make up for the enforced risk.
The Mishap table is the reason you put teleport homers in units of scouts, or locator beacons on Drop Pods.
Not minus bs when deepstriking?
They’re not shooting themselves out of a cannon.
Although that would be an awesome Deep Strike method.
That’sthe way my stormboyz will from here on now!Wait,BS 2 won’t help much,oh well….
deep striking seems to go well for me 😀 but always better for my opponant 🙁
Deepstriking is great for Black Templar, they have some nice rules that allow more protection from scattering drop pods. Still… I have had some fantastic failures as well as good results. The idea of dropping in behind a tank with little room to spare between tank and table edge is just thrilling. And when your melta manages to be in range and blows the tank, it is just lovely.
With any other chapter I am terrified of Deepstriking.
