Thanks Darrell, a quick vid on one of the most central units in the game (given the amount of marine armies). I approve! Tactical squads are great but they are still missing the CCW – if they had that they’d be awesome. Combat Squad is a great rule but is not adviseable in Kill Point games for obvious reasons. As for the load out I like Flamers & either Plasma Cannons, Lascannons (or Multimeltas if using He’stan) – Sgt. is best w/combi-melta & powerfist, or even a power weapon. If only Heavy Bolters were Rapid Fire, even if when remaining… Read more »
2 ten man squads is definatley a good place to start in any standard marine army.
do you have to convert the combi weapons or are they available in a set somewhere?
The Space Marine Boxed set has one of each, i think. But definitely a Combimelta. Otherwise you would have to convert.
Handy tip for a noob like me.
@milesyale: Sadly you have convert them, although this wouldn’t be too difficult. The only kits I can think of that have them are Sternguard Veterans & the SM Captain box. Chapter House do a magnetic set…I can’t think of any others?
Thats great Darrell, that was actually very helpful. Especially without all the cheesy stuff you can come up with 🙂
Great review Darrell…
Would be cool you did a simiular one for assault squads, for all us Blood Angel players ;o)
Just whatI needed, thanks. I would alos like to add that with combat squads you can splite them as they disembark from a drop piod, which is great.
hey darrell how did you guys oaint your ultramarines?? im just starting a space marine force and like the colour scheme 🙂
Firstly i reckon John or omain painted them. And secondly… Ultramarines? Haha you’re a comic genious… ultramarines… no paint a man Chapter! Crimson Fists are a nice scheme.
Also on a note of all these people saying always start out with 2 Tactical Squads… it is true and a very nice way to start… unless you’re me and decide to go for an all Scout army 😀
my list is damn nasty to play against.
Whoo, Crimson Fists! *fistbump*
Do you have succes with your Scout army? Cause i was thinking about doing the same. Lots of Scouts with Speeders and Bikes.
i was but i really couldnt fit the scheme to my tastes 🙁 though ive just read hunt for voldorious, surprisingly good and actually quite like raven guard from their back story in that
I like lascannons but I ‘d rather give them a plasma cannon for infantry as you don’t fight many armies that have just vehicles
Love Vanilla marines.
I take either a Las Cannon, or on the contrary; a heavy bolter. Bit of free Dakka from a building while the other half get up with, yes, a combi-melta and powerfist/powersword and I take either a meltagun or a flamer. Must get my marines out again soon for a game, and a paint come to think of it! Been too engrossed in Dark Eldar!!
I love my Tac squads, they have been the deciding factor in more than a few of my fights. I often have 1 squad with a HVY Bolter, Plasma Gun, the SGT is upgraded with a Power Fist and a Combo Flamer. It’s a great mix for mowing down troops and the power fist if great for taking on the tough targets that survive the dakka. My second TAC Squad normal has a ML and Flamer combo, but i do have other TAC squads set up with other weapons options if I feel they will do better. I guess I… Read more »
i use the same for one of my tac squads but with no combi melta and i have a plas/plas squad with a powersword (I play Raven guard)
