More Corporation Preview Models

Check out some more Corporation models below from Mantic Games. The General and a Trooper Gunner too. Enjoy!
Loving the general and he sure looks the part. Will have to pick one of these guys up and paint him up even if I am going with Forge Fathers myself!
Loving these models guys?

Looks great. They did a nice job with the details.
The general looks cool. Would be great for quite a few scifi games. The gunner looks really awkward. In fact the more I look at it, the more it looks like he just shart himself. This kind of sums up mantic sculpts in general to me. Very hit and miss across all their ranges in terms of sculpt quality but they are cheap and cheerful.
The gunner looks well sculpted to me but the position is awkward
Some archive pictures/footage of machine gunners ought to have been referenced
The has attitude that comes across well, which is excellent imho
Yeah, I think the problem is they need to keep the number of different bodies down, and re-use them as often as possible, if it were posed as you would be on a machine-gun, IE sitting down, there’s not a lot more you can do with that pose, you can’t put him in a rifle squad, since he won’t look right, but kneeling lets you get away with it.
good call Caz
Makes sense when you look at it that way
I just don’t know what the riveted “plate” area is ontop of the troopers heads, anyone care to help me out? Is it some kind of drop down visor, or are they meant to look like they got hit on the head with a shovel?
General looks great, reminds me of terra nova..
In universe the plate on the front could be a cover for the communications circuits, targeting uplinks with the heavy weapons or IFF transmiters.
Cynical real world explanation, its a good place to paint ranks, faction symbols, squad numbers etc or glue an etched brass avian of your choice on…
From the pics I’ve seen its not a plate its a vizor for the eyes. It just so happens that none of the models yet shown have the vizor down. But when it is shown you’ll see what I’m talking about.
@cazboab good call, I really like both explanations. Cheers mate.
those “visors” or whatever they are look alot like the kind of things youd find on anime/manga sci-fi helmets, only these usually have means of seeing through .. Id go with the armoured plate to protect important tech 🙂
As for the gunner its not the kneeling pose thats the issue. Rather all it needs is the gun tripod raised to eye level. This is a fix that mantic can do will little effort by making the centre pin longer so the gun is higher. Once that’s done this model will look great.
I’m liking the look of the Corporation, but I am an Alien race kinda guy, so I am not-so-patiently waiting for some nasties to show up.
The Supreme General is very well done. The gunner makes sense for the sort of gun he is using. Very defensive position. Always get a kick out of people arguing about proper science for a science-fiction game, but I shall indulge. If the gunner were actually firing a laser gun, which might be a reasonable assumption, then there isn’t much kickback. Also, assuming they are hunting some sort of alien that is lower to the ground, therefore, the shorter gun tripod. Will be easy to stand the gunner up a bit more if that’s what you like. I like this… Read more »
Yeah, these guys are plenty bulky, and there’s actually nothing in the corporation list needs heavier armour, every infantryman is Def4+ at the moment, though the obvious thing to do would be to ad more heavily armoured arms and heads, for “shock troops” maybe even asymmetric defence suit troopers with heavy armour on the leading arm and leg or a riot suppression unit with ballistic shields and shotguns etc…
One last thing, it is surprising to me that Mantic hadn’t ventured into the human world until the Corporation. If one takes a look at most ranges, generally, it’s the human based race that sells the best. Their 8th race for Kings of War should have been one of the first they made. My personal affinity towards the more fantastical aside; Mantic would be having stronger sales, and will have stronger sales, when they offer a strong human based range. It was a bit puzzling how they decided to shelve Twilight Kin suddenly (after releasing the sorceress and a limited… Read more »
Well if they made the 8th race first, it wouldn’t be the 8th race…
“the last shall be first, and the first last: for many be called, but few chosen.”
My fear is based on past experience with Mantic (where they preview the elite – and resin – and HQ minis first) I wouldn’t be surprised if these are the Veteran minis and the standard ones will be shown later and be underwhelming in terms of limited poses, poor sculpting etc etc. At least they cant use any of the fantasy elements with these though…
On a related front, im wondering how close in pricing the resin/plastic minis will be to GW Imperial Guard minis
based on past experience? Or that one single time with the Forgefathers? The Veterans from what i know will have a dash more armour, they will probs be using the sprues above with an upgrade sprue of some sort – or metal (*sigh*). Mantic are built around limited poses because that facilitates cheaper costs. That’s one of the reasons they can sell their stuff for dirt cheap. As for poor sculpting.. where exactly is this poor sculpting outside the original two armies they released?
er yes, on that one past experience (that one time being enough to call it a past experience). The poor sculpting is on the forgefathers and the orxs. Im by no means a GW fanboi, but if you compare the quality of the plastic and sculpts on AOBR orcs with the orx they are a world apart in terms of quality
The only problem I’ve ever had with Mantic is scale…this may sound weird, but not all of their kits are the same scale. Got burned recently by Boar riders who are tiny compared to regular orks..and are only slightly larger than Gw spider riders..Mantic dragon looks like its 15mm….
Before I get excited about any more Mantic minis I have to see how they scale with other figs cause the KoW range is all over the map.
Is this true about the Boar Riders? :s
Mantic do have a problem with scale. Their Dwarves are the best example of this. Thin tiny, lean Berserkers, big normal dwarves larger than GW dwarfs (making them harder to use as proxies despite being made one assumes, primarily, as proxies) and then even larger ironguard!
But many companies do this. I guess it’s just a problem that comes with the process of actually making miniatures.,
No the main problem is Mantic do not have the set standard for sculpt quality over all their ranges. It has nothing to do with ‘the process of actually making miniatures’. That’s a cop out speculation if uninformed about the manufacture of miniatures or a blatant defensive excuse biased towards Mantic if informed. The main issue at the root of these product problems is they just are not interested in high quality sculpts – they are interested in cheap armies, easy to assemble and get gaming with – and FAST releases. That’s not an inherently bad thing. They are blatantly… Read more »
I was purely referring to the issue of scale, rather than quality of sculpts. GW invest more money than anyone into this process and even today run into scaling problems so it’s not something as simple as “quality standards”. And Mantic are not interested in high-quality *plastic* sculpts – if they were they would charge a great deal more. However, their latter releases in plastic have been good quality, undead and orks, all fantastic. And obviously Mantic DO care about bringing out some fantastic sculpts as a great number of their metal and resin releases are superb. Some of them… Read more »
That’s just reinforced my comment about the quality over the entire range. Cheers. Infantry is THE bulk of any army when it comes to mass wargaming so it all comes down to the quality Vs price tag the individual is aiming for when fielding a force. Or just buy the GW infantry cheap on ebay. But seriously and aside from all the other factors, I have not yet seen one mantic release for any of the systems they are aiming to proxy for alongside their own rules systems I have thought ‘wow I want that’ except for the corp general… Read more »
I accept everyones opinion and what some people may consider superb minis, others may not. However Mantic have put out some fantastic miniatures, more than just the corporation general…. http://www.manticgames.com/Shop-Home/Warpath/Forge-Fathers/Heroes/Product/Forge-Father-Huscarl.html , http://www.manticgames.com/Shop-Home/Warpath/Marauders/Heroes/Product/Marauder-Warlord.html , http://www.manticgames.com/Shop-Home/Kings-of-War/Orcs/Lords-and-Heroes/Product/Orc-Krudgers-Gang-3-Figures.html , I think these examples would be described by most as superb. However there have been issues with scale and quality control, the scale issues are probably due to different freelance sculpters working out of office and all the different processes involved. As Mantic matures, im sure we will see less of this. The only real quality issue Im aware of was with the Maurader Grunt… Read more »
This is all well and good BUT where will they get the money to grow, invest in new sculpts etc? From selling minis that are below par. i bit the bullet and bought the KoW dwarves as the sculpts wouldnt show up in a horde in movement trays (esp. the awful backline of gun-dwarves). Mantic’s problem – aside from rushing out a sci fi game – is that a poor quality mini/sculpt is ok(ish) in a horde, but for individual minis just wont to. Ive got the Orxs and the standard forgefathers and (as i said above) im underwhelmed by… Read more »
Limited poses is not really a problem for closed ranks on movement trays.
It could be argued that saving costs for KoW/WHFB makes sense where you ain’t gonna see a lot of variation when the chaps are bunched together.
Bit different, maybe, when the guys are in more open groupings for Warpath.
Don’t personally see the need for more than 3-4 rank and file poses tbh
Ill be excited once I see the actual figs in a shop…does look like a nice range at this stage
the miniatures are fine … invest in writing some decent rules instead, otherwise the minis are pretty much useless
