Corporation General Concept & Mantic Twitter Competition
December 1, 2011 by brennon
So you liked the troopers, so how about the General leading those veterans into battle?
Very nice and full of character. Also maybe handy for any Sci-Fi roleplaying games you might be playing. Heck, good for any Sci-Fi game!
Mantic Games are also running a Twitter competition where you simply have to say True or False to a number of labelled tweets - more imformation here on the blog. And a link to their Twitter here.
Looking forwards to the Corporation sticking their noses into the Warpath Universe?

“Forwards men! To war, ooh, I got a text!”
He’s tweeting BoW for a competition.
In the far off future there will be another Turn 8 😛
The general is Danny Glover? DO WANT!
!! you are right ha ha
Maybe he’s downloading a gun kata app?
Generic concept but slickly presented, super versatile.
Judging from the quality of the other races command sculpts this could be a very nice mini indeed.
heres hoping mini is awesome…this concept looks good
His body armor looks tauesque
And the pistol looks life a plasma pistol
But somehow those things tie in well.
Looks like the Corporation leaders are more tactical analyst back-seat leaders than the heroic inspiring presences of the Marauder Captain and ForgeFather Huscarl.
And you can proxy him for a GW IG sergeant with wysiwyg. Ha!
Touche 😀
Its funny how when someone says “evil corporation” we cant help but think of GW isn’t it?
This will be great as the leaders for the other armies rock, we can place a safe bet this will be as well.
I like the simple non-pointing finger pose it has. Also he looks rather calm and collected rather than the typical CARGE! look on the face.
This is alot more interesting than the basic trooper types. I dont know why Mantic didnt just follow this line with the basic troopers. It would have been great to see some minis based on the soldiers in the old Amiga game SYNDICATE, with flowing trench coats and cyborg style features. That would have suggested an evil corporation more than what they have gone with IMO.
Syndicate agents aren’t basic troopers though, they’re elite killing machines used for specialist infiltration rather than open warfare. They may be the epitome of evil corporate culture but they aren’t rank-and-file grunts to be expended. Also soldiers don’t typically use Delaque/Matrix-style trenchcoats in battle – they’re too restrictive, however stylish they might look.
I don’t quite understand the attitude towards the generic look of the troops – granted they should be well sculpted but does each and every one have to ‘pop’ like a hero? Wouldn’t that make the whole army look too busy, too jarring?
I was thinking it was an Alien reference with Wayland-Utani.
To be honest Mantic’s future for humanity is just as plausible as the nightmarish theocratic state.
We’ll probably end up with a mix of both.
I like that, plus, McVey, credit to Mantic, they are getting the best people in for the heroes. For what its worth, I’ve bought the orx hero just to paint, its a fantastic model, not just ‘for mantic’ , its simply a fantastic model, I’d say one of the best orc types in 28mm from anyone. I know they have had criticism for some of the troops, but I really like the idea of cheap regular guys that do the job and a genuine best in genre sculpt for the leader, I think for a game that is based on… Read more »
I really like it…
He looks like an independent, or a browncoat mercenary (Firefly anyone ?), instead of the usual IG russian or german-looking officers…
It’s the cut fof the coat and the style of the armor…
He’s part of a corporation, not an empire, and it shows.
I hope the mini is as good as the concept !
BoW Romain
I wonder if he leaves small silver foil origami sculpts of Zz’or and 8th Race kritters in his wake?
It’s too bad they won’t live…but then again who does? He definitely looks like an armoured Deckard.
@ thc303 … I have to disagree with you im afraid. IMO, if you are designing models to represent an evil corporation then you reflect that in the models through taking ideas from interesting sources. The basic troops that Mantic have designed dont reflect their source material at all and look far too generic SciFi and quite frankly uninspiring. They look neither evil or good at first glance, and certainly dont say ‘evil corporation’. Swing and a massive miss for me. Now, if they were wearing trench coats, had cyborg elements and other design details to reflect their insidious evil… Read more »
No one thinks that Mantic’s fluff you should be taken seriously, come on now. It’s just a bit of fun… for now. And you may think the Corporation are evil, I see them as missunderstood :p Mantic don’t make miniatures for Warpath – they make miniatures for everyone that can ALSO be used in Warpath. Look at the army lists lol. The fluff is a nice bonus that might come to its own in five years time, but at the moment they’re just trying to create a good product that everyone can use for whatever game. Not just “the other… Read more »
I believe the reason for the average grunt being what they are is because Mantic wish them to be as intergatable into as many game systems as posable. It could also be that they wish the leaders to stand out from the rest. For me, I see the grunts like the cop force in V for vendetta. Well armed all looking much the same. But I do see your point. It is sci-fi so really anything can go. Every one of them can have clown costumes or be vampiers. It comes down to what they Mantic wish the line to… Read more »
Plus if you want to make them look ‘evil’ just paint them as such. I think they look good as the generic militant corporation troopers where to have identity is to be against the rules and they enforce working as one, and this guy as some world weary general from as Romain said, Firefly-esque world.
I played Syndicate Wars rather than Syndicate – you try telling me those agents are rank-and-file when the only way to replace them is to persuade/capture the opponent’s…they cost too much, which ties in with why these generic troops are suitable – life is cheap to the Corporation. As to why they get shot to bits and set alight it’s because that looks cool in-game, not because it’s an effective way to wage war. Also WW1 troops didn’t have to worry about agility, which is essential on the modern battlefield. Those long coats kept soldiers warm, but not safe. I’m… Read more »
Please allow me to provide just a bit of education: (In the immortal words of James Brown, I just can’t help myself!) “Your point that they are evil killing machines only used for infiltration is mute.” 1. As this is a written word format, rather than a spoken word format, in the literal sense, all statements are in fact ‘mute’. Now, if you consider the written word in a text format to be equivalent, on the main, to represent an individuals voice by proxy, then the very presence of alphabetic characters in a post, provided they form coherent words and… Read more »
Deus Ex look a like i think. Not a very original idea but thats not what mantic is about. As long as they are cheap, its all good.
