The Corporation take on the 8th Race in Project Pandora
February 16, 2012 by beerogre
That's right! Images of the 8th Race (or should I say... the Veer-Myn) miniatures are creeping out... much like the beasts themselves... as the countdown to Project Pandora ticks down!
Taking on the fearsome Veer-Myn, will be the stalwart soldiers of the Corporation... well perhaps stalwart is too honourable a word... the efficient and cost effective assets of the Corporation.
Here they are in all their glory!

Love the paint up of the Corporation troops and the general. The Veer-Myn models look pretty awesome and bulky, nice change from the lithe rat look. Can’t wait to see them painted up and at play.

When I preordered this yesterday, I certainly wasn’t expecting ratmen in space to be the 8th race. The Corporation figs are fine but I’m not entirely sold on the Ver-Myn. Maybe I was expecting something more savage, beastial and alien than these. Anyway, the gaming tiles tiles of the game have their uses and the corporation minis certainly have theirs. Any word will the models be proper plastic miniatures or resin-plastic?
I’ll wait for an actual caster or chemical engineer to explain that last bit fully (I’d like to know the difference between these and sprue styrene too) but I believe they’re resin-plastic.
Resin-plastic.
Thanks!
I really like the Ver-Myn models but they are exactly like the Skaven, i know that i just saw 2 miniatures but they can perfectly fit in a Skaven army… I don’t know if being sad or happy about it, i just know that i’ll be a lot more happy if it were something totally original ( or at least with a more unique look like the Corporation )
exactly whats on my mind , but what i dont like about it is that so much people actually see slight alterations as a huge enough difference to make it into something totally new + what i dont like is pretty much everybody is bashing GW for the one reason or the other ( in my case I am totally not ok with their prices as they are hilariously high in some cases ) but still they rip of their stuff , if you bash you should at least come up with something original on your own and before we… Read more »
Agree, on the other side i must said that the undead zombies and ghouls from Mantic are the best i see so far and probably many Vampire Counts player would use them, but for the case of Skaven that are actually awesome miniatures is very hard to compete (except for the fact that they would be a lot cheaper than the GW ones ). It depends how you see it, but is definitely disappointing because i was expecting something truly original :(. Anyway… i might get to play WHF with the twilight kin or this Ver-Myn ( Please better names… Read more »
I think you’re making a false equivalence there – people who were attacking GW’s originality should perhaps prove their credentials by doing something original themselves, but very few people are actually criticising GW’s originality any more – they’ve had 25-30 years to accrete a unique identity around the stuff they borrowed from books, comics and films. Mantic’s products address most of the main complaints about GW that go around – stuff like the prices, selling products that don’t make up a rules-legal unit, ditching Squats. I’m not suggesting you have to like it, obviously, but I don’t think Mantic are… Read more »
Well put.
I don’t know the image of a diseased rotting rat does fit kinda nicely, with that being the flagship image of the corporation…
As far as what I dislike in conjunction with the replies is always coming here and no matter the game I find some mental midget crying over trading in his supposed sex life, for a shot of GW plastic.
Well at least there is no way of any of this having a chance to pro create.

I guess the GW fan boys are shooting for the logical ending

The Ver-Myn look a bit like the Wolfen from Rackham!
I hope that the veer-myn aren’t just rats but a whole assortment of rodents. I wanna see badger and wolverine heavy troops
Yeah, it would be nice that they just put a hell lot of different carnivorous mammals ( and some strange ones, not just something take out of nature -.- ) that would be like tribes from a distant planet of something that develop their they tech when they got in contact with the corporation in a very stealthy way until it was too late for the corps on that planet ( cut communications and all that good stuff )
I agree that would be cool.
Those Veer-Myn models are promising and those crporation models are looking good.
The model on the left Is about the size of Mantic’s dwarves, the one on the right is a little taller, 2 or 3 mm higher. I found it is’nt obvious of this picture. I put some pictures of the corpo general on my blog. http://remytremblay.sculpture.over-blog.com/
Have a nice evening,
Rémy, veer-myn sculptor 🙂
Hey Remy, really nice work over on your blog. Question, and since I don’t speak French, was that picture of the Corporation where they’re all in pieces what the actual minis will come as? Are these the parts we can expect when finished product arrives?
My initial concerns about model proportions were snuffed seeing all the pictures. Looks good!
Thanks
Hi Remy, I browsing your gallery and going through your blog. Now I know who did all the great sculpts for Warpath and Kings of War ! Continue ton bon travail, c’est très apprécié !
really cool stuff you have! every piece is soaked with life it all really feels good and like a snapshot of a living being in one moment in time. I take a bow before your talent as a sculptor even though I am not that ok with the way the ideas behind that modells appeared ( as I expressed further up 😀 ) keep up that outstanding work of yours ! And kick some ass over at Mantic as the final modell-casts lost quite some crisp details ( not saying that the quality is bad at all ! ) now… Read more »
VIVID ! thats the word I was looking for ^^
Hmmm….I have mixed feelings about this 8th race. I always thought they would be super powerful aliens with technology so advanced that they put the other races to shame. Kinda like the Vorlons and Shadows from Babylon 5. These guys look like rat scavengers to me. If you think about it, rats have always been stowaways on ships. So why not evolved sentient rat stowaways that hide in the cargo holds of ships. Once the ship enters hyperspace, they spring out of hiding, kill the crew, and take the ship and the cargo as their prize!
All that stuff about not talking about the Eighth Race did seem like it was leading somewhere more grand and cosmic, didn’t it? Still, I like your theory. Ships always had rats, big ships get big rats…
Yes, it’s a bit like a mountain giving birth to a mouse after long and spectacular tremors…
That’s good fluff, but i have the same feeling of disappointment. That should be just the diminutive tip of the iceberg of that race ( agh hate that lame name, Forge Fathers and Marauders are way better ! )
Space rats I like, and these have some personality to them.
I especially like the 50’s style zzap guns.
KOW kinda passed me by, bits of the ranges are nice, but it doesn’t really grab me.
I like the models I have from DKH (apart from the dwarves were a pita to fit) but can’t see myself getting an army. Corp and Verr-myn on the other hand..
great looking models. i want to see the full army list for the ver-myn now.
Meh. They’re alright, although I am a bit disappointed that the 8th race aren’t Cthulhu monsters or Wolfen in space.
There are 3 races out at the moment for Mantic Sci-fi none of the Races have tanks, none of them have APC’s think of. Why not concetrate on the races already out, people are already crying out for Orc vehicles and Dwarf vehicles and when are the Corporation going to get there dose. Please Please Mantic do not go down the GW path by not finishing armies off before bringing out new races.
Ehm… a game with just 3 races doesn’t see very complete.Four is a better number, maybe they will do it. I agree that if they release another more it would be a bad idea.
Don’t buy into the propaganda men! That’s not the 8th race. All it is is a ploy by the corporation to make you open your doors to let them in so they can “inspect” for any signs of Veer-Myn. If you value your freedom support your local rebel freedom fighters or big corp. will take it away!
There’s a Skaaa–vaaan waiting in the sky.
He’d like to come and meet us,
But he thinks he’ll blow our minds.
Hey Chibi! Sorry to go OP, you don’t post on Dakka any more these days? Missed your comments there 🙂
And you only get ten of these little scavenger guys against ten fully loaded-out Corporation troopers? I think I feel bad for the rats… It’ll be interesting to see how they play in Warpath, I’d assume they’re a horde kind of deal?
If 10 space rats are a match for 10 corp troopers then it doesn’t seem likely that they’re a horde army …
My assumption was they would be respawning all over the tile map, unless they have some gnarly special rules that make dwarf-height rats with pistols an even match for the Corporation troopers? Still, it’s not like I’m not buying the game, so I’ll find out…
I’m not too sure what’s sci-fi about these guys other than their guns? If this is the case then why not bring out some Ratman for fantasy?
I did assume the “8th” race would be something unique that was not brought out until Warpath was on better financial footing. Sci-Fi rats is quite risky mind you.
Ratman Fantasy? ….borrrriiiinnnng….
Rats in Space? Bring it on!
This company rocks! Mantic Games have got the right touch to add that extra element to sci-fi gaming. These “Veer-Myn” have piqued my interest again in the fantasy science fiction genre and I will be watching with interest as MG unveil their new sculpts.
So disappointed by this. After all the secrecy and speculation surrounding the 8th race (pre-pandora pictures) I was really hoping for something really unique (or at least, not rats . . . in space) and exciting. I also have a problem with the models. The sculpt quality is top notch, but I think the style is TOO GW. I don’t like how mantic orcs look, but I was glad they looked quite different to GW. These models seem to BE gw sculpts almost, they also look a lot more “heroic” in scale that the rest of the mantic line. Altogether,… Read more »
Ah come on people we have seen two miniatures for this 8th race and not even painted! lets see what they come up with for the rest before we b*tch and moan! I for one am willing to give them a chance and have pre ordered the game.
Keep up the Good work Mantic!
Thank you for your nice comment, and even for those who don’t like it… 🙂 @ipaint: The picture shows the parts that you’ll got in the boxes, this whole set is used to make marines, veterans, rangers and heavy weapons. All the head and pair of arms are fully compatible with all bodies. It’s quite hard in this conditions to keep exact proportions and good dynamic poses. Well I did my best. About the Veer-myn. You should wait for another minis to judge. You have only two guys, one pic for each and those as all the pictures of miniatures… Read more »
BoW Romain
No worries about the English Remy, it comes across just fine to me. (You wouldn’t want to hear my French!) I think the main issue is with the concept of Ratmen in space more than the quality of sculpting which looks good to me. Not everyone wants to see this race (a Rat Race! tee hee) associated with Mantic and were expecting something more groundbreaking You have highlighted the creative issues that arise during the process of producing fantasy and sci-fi miniatures which is very interesting imho For my own amusement I have tried to come up with designs for… Read more »
Yep, i know it myself that is not easy… Again, i love the for using them in a Skaven army and i wouldn’t be disappointed if it wasn’t a “Mountain giving birth to a rat -.-” like Romain said. But i think is not a excuse to say “hey a rat with shiny armour doesn’t work, let’s give them the same thing that other has” and i give a good alternative 🙂 : BioWeapons!!! Naked rats with biosymbiotical armours attached to them ( like separate living organism ). I’m not talking about the whole rat is a bioweapon like the… Read more »
I can see it now..BoW 3 colours up special..Remy shows us how to create a mini master model…with 3d printing session to make production mold…followed by Romain painting it up
Me ? Following Rémy Tremblay ?
I’m flattered, but it would be like a piano teacher following Beethoven…
Rémy Tremblay paints so much better than I do !
Just go and look at his blog if you don’t believe me…
Looks great…A sort of were rat/wolf look about them
Warpath corporation look good from some angles but a bit odd from others- minis in hand always better than judging via photos
Mantic is still a very young company, I really think that design will evolve in the future. The whole team involved is learning from each other. As I am, a young freelancer only since 2009. I can’t be Jes Goodwin in this amount of time… He is probably sculpting for GW before my own birth 🙂
So the best is still to come.
Thank you for your comment, bad or good and your support.
Cheers,
Rémy
Even as a fervent Skaven player I’m a little disappointed – Mantic has been going for long enough to throw a little more imagination into the pot and come up with something a bit different, OK I have no idea what they could do but then again I buy stuff I don’t invent it lol
Oh and the Veer-Myn name is crap christ on a bike you could have picked random letters out of a Scrabble bag and got a better name than that 🙁
Just tried that and came up with DAPHNIE for the 50 point bonus and on a triple word score too! 😀
RESULT!!!!! Lol 🙂
Yep, any F2P MMO has that for free 😛
YEY space rats. I hope they are as evil and devious as skaven in fantasy, that would be awesome 🙂
Underwhelmed by the 8th race skaven disclosure and tbh getting bored of mantics antics and unoriginality these days.
