Convergence, Menoth, Mercs & Rhulic Colossals On The Way!
June 14, 2013 by brennon
It's been a bit of a big week for Warmachine thanks to Privateer Press and below you can check out just some of the awesome stuff that will be coming your way over the next few weeks and months...
First up we have some astounding additions to the Convergence line up including Aurora, the Attunement Servitors and the Clockwork Angels. All of them are amazing miniatures that look like they've jumped out of Infinity rather than Warmachine.
Aurora flanked by her Clockwork Angel bodyguard is going to be a sight to behold and it will be fun to see what people do with them paint scheme wise. Have you been convinced by the awesomeness of Convergence?
Next up are two metal sets in the Exemplar Vengers and Greygore Boomhowler & Co. I have a bit of a soft spot for the Trollkin in the Iron Kingdoms and despite not actually playing Warmachine I could always buy them just because they look ace.
Unfortunately the Vengers aren't so high on my recommendation list. Sadly the horses look a bit broken by their heavily armoured riders.
And last but certainly not least we have this sneak peek at the Rhulic Colossal. Now you know I have a soft spot for Dwarves of all shapes and sizes and this looks like the perfect addition to their line of models. Both functional and combat ready, a perfect Dwarf weapon of war!
What do you think of the newest Rhulic toy?
Convergence is getting some great looking models. Because of my MtG days I have soft spot for artifical angels so I really like those Clockwork Angels. Aurora is truly great looking caster.
Menoth is getting some particulary not so great looking models. I can’t really say that I would like those.
That Rhulic colossal is looking very interesting in my opinion.
ooh, I haven’t liked anything about convergence until now. Those winged models are nice….
Wow…..convergence. I just can’t resist them. Its futile……..
I’m loving what pp is doing with the convergence… But come on!!! A 3 man unit with duplicate sculpts??? That is really sad…
I completely agree. I wish at least they’d be poseable.
I’m loving the Rhulic colossal, the angels and the trolls…
I’m hating that the paint-jobs from this studio are steadily getting worse and worse !
Cyriss deserves better than poor TMP !
Well, it’s obvious that PP would use true metal since they sell a full line of metallic paints (probably the best metallics in the hobby after they changed the formula). And to be fair, TMP can look really awesome if you put as much time and effort into it as you do NMM (not to say these all do). I kind of prefer a very well done TMP to NMM, personally (not that I’m good enough to do either to studio standards). I think NMM always ends up looking more like an illustration and less like a scale model, which… Read more »
I agree on all points ! NMM or TMP, it’s all the same to me : what counts is quality. And these are NOT quality painting. I think it’s just like what happened with Games Workshop, really : they “dumb down” the paint-jobs to make them “accessible” (for the kids and the gamers who don’t paint), so as not to intimidate anyone. I find that taking your customers for fools is the slippery slope to mmaking a fool of yourself. Like Andy @beerogre said, this sort of thing is a danger to the community as it is now, because it… Read more »
I understand the intimidation factor, but I think there’s room for a happy medium. Show more than one view of your models. One of the things I like about the Dreadball rules book is that it shows different models painted by (presumably) different people. The studio minis used throughout most of the book look pretty good, and represent what an experienced painter can do, but there are also images of minis painted to a much less polished standard. The emphasis isn’t on making your minis the most amazing on the table so much as it is on customizing them to… Read more »
I gave up on being intimidated. I paint with a roller.
I simply cannot seem to have the paint go where i want it to and that makes me frustrated so I don’t worry any more. I do lime painting tanks as I can use a spray gun for that and soem fo the blu tac camo patterns aren’t bad but I can’t seem to get my head around the simplest things like highlighting.
A roller ? gasp… *faints*
I hate to say it, but I believe Meg Maples has been the artist resposnible for many of the less-than-stellar studio painjobs. She is a wonderful painter in her own right and a positive influence on the community, but even from the beginning her fleshtones have been a bit too soft for many of the models she’s painted. I’ll use eBaldur and his Santa Clause resemblance as an example.
I know she’s great, but I’m not sure he style jives with some of the models she’s painting on the job.
And now I feel bad about pointing fingers.
Really? I like her take on Morvhanna. Most of the models don’t identify the painter, you figure it out from forum posts, and I haven’t been paying that close attention. I figured it was some freelancer they were contracting out their higher-than-normal volume to (like they did a few times with Angel Giraldez). No matter who the painter is I suspect that’s at least part of the problem with PP lately. They’ve been producing an abnormally large number of models per month lately. I just suspected the quality dip was due to there being too much in the pipeline to… Read more »
It’s more than that : The latest No Quarter featured a whole tutorial on how to paint Convergence, and it’s all metals and washes, of the simplest kind.
You get the same tabletop result you see on the box art, which is not much !
It’s fine for tabletop, but certainly not for a tutorial or for Box Art.
No, I think this is all quite voluntary.
If only there was someone who could do a more in-depth tutorial on a different way to paint metal using a convergence model. If it was a video that would be super.
Yes, it would be nice, woudln’t it ?
oh… wait…
Talk about being elitist.
Get off your high horse for a few seconds and realise that not all of us are gret painters.
As for thr tutorial in no quarter, i think it was supposed to be a simple beginners guide. The faction book contains alot mor detailed guides to painting metals. And the faction books have had a great influence on my painting.
Oh and Meg Maples is one of my fav painters, i love her soft style.
I’m not a great fan of many of the Convergence miniatures but I have a huge love of mechanical wings so these minis are more my thing. Aurora’s wings are amazing but I’m not a huge fan of the body or its pose, I have had slight visions of potentially putting those wings on something larger and more mechanical, the likes of an Infinity Tag (aleph?) or the larger robotic samurai from Eden but it’s not a cheap conversion. The angels seem to be much more my thing, though as has been said it is a real shame if a… Read more »
Them angels do look nice for robots. Who would have thought they have a sense of style.
I really like some of this stuff the Convergence in particular, but i can never seem to paint WarMachine stuff! get halfway and lose intrest
wow …… im so getting these, such amazing models 😀
The rhulic colossal is a bit uninspiring. It’s a kind of rhulic châssis contaminated by convergence vectors… Give him 2 legs, a giant pneumatic drill and a giant pick axe and lots of guns!
And it looks more like a crab than anything a dwarf would make.
Hmmm, not too sold on the Rhulic Colossal myself. It deviates strongly from the walking toilet look I love the Rhulic Jacks so much for. 😀
I think the Convergence models are sufficiently nicely painted. They might well be my first faction for Warmachine.
Can’t say I’ll be getting the box of Exemplar Vengersvas they are only FA 1 and I already have a unit. Plus, I already preordered a TON of Cyriss stuff at my FLGS.
Could always run Kreoss 3’s theme force and increase the FA to 2 ; )
those servitors look like a steampunk monitor from the Halo games, might get some just for that 🙂
