The Conquest of Gaul Begins with Warlord Games

Warlord Games are hoping to get you embroiled in the battles of Hail Caesar with their new Conquest of Gaul Starter Set. Check out what you get inside this pack...
That's quite a good starter set, especially considering the quality of the Warlord plastic range. You can now finally recreate the battle from the beginning of Gladiator!
There's a taster of the miniatures that you'll be picking up, as well as of course the catapult crew. I haven't looked into the Hail Caesar rules before but I am rather tempted too now.
Another great idea from Warlord Games?

Bloody Romans! C’mon you Gauls!
Crud I really like the look of this starter set. Oh well in another parallel universe.
I assume the Gauls don’t move in a phalanx like the Romans?
I’m guessing they will assume the rabble/mob style that we all know and love lol.
BoW Ben
YAY! they get the “Angry Mob” special rule.
Pitchforks and firebrands at the ready! lol
I’m all about angry mobs. Now if only they had included a few burning cars and water cannon.
Anyway, this a great deal! 94 models and a hardcover rulebook for $96.00. If I get involved in one more game system I’m sure I’ll find my packed bags on the front stoop but it may be worth it. Perhaps BoW could take a crack at the rules and let us know if they’re any good?

Roman legionaries look like well disciplined and organized soldiers while celt warriors are looking unorganized as warriors are and ready to pursue personal glory on battlefield. Which is why celts lost to romans historically.
The Celts lost for a lot of reasons, their military organization (or lack thereof) wasn’t the biggest. Vercingetorix’s guerilla raids and ambushes did some serious damage to the disciplined Roman armies. Where the romans really won in the end was in building better siege and defensive works along with having more reliable chains of communication and supply. Catch the legions out in the open and they were beaten by the Gauls more often than not. Attack them in a fortified position and watch Gauls batter themselves against the walls like bees against a window pane. Ruthlessness was another factor that… Read more »
Hail Caesar is one of the games I’m looking at to replace WAB. there are a couple of other rule sets I’d like to try before I opt for one.
This starter set is a good way to get into ancient gaming if have not tried it. Good basic troops from two very different armies.
Very tempted to get this as it sounds a very good starter deal.
Alot of bang for the bucks – might be time to get a few mates for the one roman leginarious that I have painted up
Rules wise sound good there a few interesting ones at the moment – and there is rumors of SAGA big battles too
@rasmus I have heard what the next release of Saga will be but not this Saga Big Battles of which you speak.
Pray tell
