They're Darrell's favourite, but have they really taken a leap to the top of the competitive table, or is it just that the usual tournament lists have taken a hit? The guys discuss the new potential power of the Space Wolves in 6th Edition 40K.

Njall probably cant target flyers after the FAQ
Q: How do maelstroms, novas and beams – or indeed any weapon that doesn’t need to roll To Hit or hits automatically – interact with Zooming Flyers and Swooping Flying Monstrous Creatures? (p13)
A: Only Snap Shots can hit Zooming Flyers and Swooping Flying Monstrous Creatures. Therefore, any attacks that use blast markers, templates, create a line of/area of effect or otherwise don’t roll to hit cannot target them.
There is no probably about it lol. You quoted the FAQ, and from what I read if you don’t use a BS to hit you can’t hit flyers.
Nope, it is not an ‘attack’, it doesn’t follow the rules for shooting attacks and is not described as ‘shooting’ (like machine curse is for example), It’s an ‘environmental effect’ that happens at the end of the phase. So until FAQ’d Njall will be able to do what Darren says.
Yeah that’s what I was thinking when I put probably, the description of how it works is almost the same as a maelstrom, but its never actually called a maelstrom, so until GW say no he can’t (which is everyone was 100% honest and wasn’t worried about using it in their next tourney list since the wolves have no other AA, practically everyone would agree is the intention) you’ll have rules lawyers arguing the point of what constitutes and attack, and TOs will be stuck with the decision, and the flak from everyone it goes against.
my fav unit is wolf guard is on bikes with storm shield frost blade combo with a rune priest (unless theres stairs)
i started playing BAs when i first started with 40k…i then played space wolves. i still dabble in both, but now i’m faced with a difficult decision…do i A- make a SW army with BA allies, or B- a BA army with SW allies?
The answer is yes.
My mates just thinking about starting Space Wolves so shall send this over to him for some tips!

I am surprised Darrel doesn’t field Fenrisian wolf units at all…they are quite cheap, have space marine profile, run fast as hell, cause your enemies to focus at them (aspecially if you use more than one unit..) and if someone ignores them…he’s up for a big surprise when those 31 attacks get him O.o and all that for 88 points? I usually run at least 2 units of them and they have never ever failed making their points back, if only by getting shot at by my enemies whole army for a turn or maybe even 2 if there’s some… Read more »
I could not agree more to the absolute awesomeness of Skyclaw, Swiftclaw and Boodclaw units.
However I do disagree to Darrel’s stand on Longfangs. Personally I like to mix weapons. Not oly because the events I play require you to have different weapons in a squad but because the other guns have gained something in this edition. Especially heavy bolters. So my Longfang squads currently have 2 missiles, 2 h-bolters maybe more but at least those.
If you post up Long Fangs behind an A Line with Quad Gun, why wouldn’t you give the Rune Priest BRB powers? Yea you get d6 shots with living lightning, but I would rather give the 5 missiles a guaranteed hit.
The only problem I’ve got with this video is that it’s not as long as the Sisters of Battle one. 🙁
By saying that I’m admitting that I kinda like listening to Darell 🙂
Wolfguard terminators are in fact the bomb; besides the shenanigans of popping them in other units, they’re cheap enough to field as a unit of their own and with the change to power weapons really flexible (I tend to give mine power mauls, wounds most stuff on a 2+ and can kick over killa kanz).
I’ll definitely be linking my friend who plays Space Wolves to this video, looking forward to possibly seeing a Tyranids one.
Guy this video was recorded Before GW,s latest round of Faq changes. The main one effecting this is the fact that a Wolf Priest now has a power Maul.

Replace “Crozius arcanum (power weapon)” entry with
“Crozius arcanum (power maul).”
the one thing for me now is where previously in a Terminator unit i would have loaded up with Storm Shields, now I may just take a couple and one of them may well be Arjac anyway.
