Darrell and Andy have decided to take a look at some of the Warhammer 40K Codex's, in light of the game as it stands today. First up are Darrell's favourite... Necrons!

It will be interesting to compare this video to the new one that’s gonna be shot sometime soon 😉 lol
they better come soon!
Since Dark Eldar were re-newed the Necron Codex is probably the oldest. And interesting little nugget there Warren lol…interest peaked 😉 Also, the reason that the Necrons can ‘suddenly speak’ is because of the type of canon 40k falls into which is ”loose cannon” (yes, its that hilariously named). Where the core fluff and background is always there but the rest is totally up for chopping and changing. I like that about the 40k and Warhammer universe, that every writer has his own ideas on what something is like much like us as wargamers. In a bit of Necron reminiscing… Read more »
I’ve been told you can’t find the Necron Codex on the Games Workshop website anymore, so perhaps they will be getting a rewrite.
This is true, the codex has been removed from the website, which is a sure sign of them being redone. On another note, I think Darrell has missed out one of the more important functions/benefits in favour of the necrons’ Pariahs is that they screwed up enemy Psykers like mephiston because of their special rules (I cannot remember at this point in time). There was one that reduced all enemy units LD within range down to LD 7 and force Psykers to make a morale check or those Psykers have to roll 6’s to hit in CC. I personally prefer… Read more »
I just finished my Necron army, I expect it might show up on the GW site sometime around their re-release. A tip is that if you do get a rod fogged up however your may be gluing it, or if you spray it you can almost always get the smoothness back with a coating of Future or gloss coat painted directly over it. What worries me is the rumor of Immortals being much bigger and on 40mm bases. This is mostly because I just finished several on resin bases so I hope there are ways to upgrade at least a… Read more »
Cat-An, Warrens right.
my thoughts on update is to give flayed ones power weapons and make them scatter D6 for deep strike+make them T5 instead of 4. then maybe allow nec warriors be able to field heavier guns that can hurt tanks along with it. As for other things phirash(cant spell them) make them more like shock troops( meaning they great at cc with I4 and T5) but limit it to only one squad per 100points. destroyers seem to great at what they do but if able they should be able to have upgrade that gives them a 5+ cover save for say… Read more »
ooo ya nec could speak before fall of domios(?) they rarely did so and mainly spoke binary or form of that. that book only dived deeper cuz not much is known about them. also they became the nec due to they were dislike the Old ones that may have made the elder and the orks ( fluff wise)
So if oldest codex currently is Codex Necron then is Codex Tau Empire second oldest?
I beleave that the Dark Angles codex is older.
nope its four years older, necrons is indeed the oldest
I think that Darrel’s pronunciation of C’Tan is correct. Congratulations!
Love the idea of a codex spotlight and found this to be one of the best BoW videos. Look forward to more
I do play Necrons quite a bit~ and I do admit that phase out is rather annoying~ buuuut it is rather unique to them so I reckon instead of removing it, they should put it to about 80%-90% As for Warscythes~ hell no, dont remove them! A Warscythe is a really nasty weapon, so it should stay with the Necron Lord at least ( or buff pariahs, like really no one uses them, because the more “futuristic, ADVANCED” necrons cant repair themselves for some unknown reason ). That brings on a second point, if your not trying to get a… Read more »
I gotta tell ya that Necrons have been a HUGE frustration for me as an Imperial player. I have been stomped playing my Vanilla Marines and My Grey Knights! (don’t ask me how that happened, perhaps my dice hate me). Group of Scarabs took out 5 terminators in 3 turns, 270pts tied up for the entire game basically and my only saving grace was my force weapons. The Warcythes proved to be very nasty, and don’t get me started on the Monolith (ignores all extra dice for armor penetration, 14 armor all around!) Trying to punch that was a huge… Read more »
It is indeed the oldest one atm: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Codex_%28Warhammer_40,000%29
I had hoped for a discussion of the current rumours, but still the FAQ bit was funny.
Bike Armys are the worst thing a Necron army can face. They Turbo Boost 24 then 2nd close combat and phase for necrons.
I’d LOVE to see a review of the wood elves book as I believe they will be getting an update either later this year or early next year, please speculate what new units/ characters there will be, that would be so great !
P.S. You could also do a before and after like the necrons 🙂
Everybody loves a mephiston. Is it wrong that I laughed at that……?
