Hey BoW thanks for this, I really like it. I was just wondering how did you guys painted those Tyranids :), I think they are gorgeos!
They actually did a tutorial on how they painted them during ‘Nid week. I use that methood to paint my Hive Fleet Kraken, using red instead of blue.
Have a browse, I’m sure you’ll find it somewhere.
Its unfortunate but true, Nids aren’t really as effective as they used to be, esspecially Carnifexs.
So what Codex are you guys doing next?
Orks should be next… then we’ll film a few more when Darrell comes back from holiday.
If anyone has any requests… here’s the place to make them.
Chaos Space Marines after please. Loving these vids on each codex. Only criticism would be to make them even longer as they’re great!
Second for Chaos Space Marines then, please. Looking forward to the Orks too.
Do genestealers still have their elaborate life cycle, with all the generations of hybrids and psykers? I always had the impression they got less interesting once they were subsumed into the ‘Nid list…
awesomesauce…I was thinking about ‘nids as the next thing. This makes me lean toward deldar again.
Great review and most insightful!!! thanks.
Initiative 1 ouch!! thought the creatures were said to evolve :s
p.s. I was looking around some of your other videos and came across some Ork ones. It suggested that the youtube account had been closed. Is this a temporary problem or do your videos have a life ex?
Not looking to ninja this post so if you could drop me a mail it would be appreciated.
Thanks again for your time. 🙂
Below is the route to the videos in question:

The Ork Codex is the next one we’ll look at. It’s filmed and Darrell has a lot to say about it.
As for the other videos, we still have them and we’re reloading them onto the system as fast as Justin’s PC can go… it just takes time…
Good to hear that you’re going to take a look at the winners of 40k :P.
I play Nids and the lack of invul on synapse creatures hurts a lot along with not having anything that can break through 3+ armor saves. You can go through a whole round of shooting with str8 weapons and the likes of SM/Necrons will just shake off the shot with their armor. The elites section is the key area to building up an army list and taking anything with a toughness 6.
NO! getting rid of synapse is a horrible idea, it’s a big part of the Tyranid backbone. I do not want to be playing an Imperial guard army that cannot have vehicles.
Get Lloyd on to talk about the tau book or maybe take a look at the White dwarf sisters update
I cant wait for the blood angels review, these videos are awesome.
It is true that long range and tanks are anti nid but with the option to burro and scout/ infiltrate turn one the table is covered. they are a one trick pony but they are damn good at that trick.
I don’t think ‘nids are evil, I’d say they were neutral.
I mean, would you say a lion was evil when it hunts and eats a zebra?
I need to get more Genestealers, 2 more Zoanthropes, one of which I’ma convert to the DoM, some Hive Guard and a couple of Tyrant Guard. Also wanna covert a Warrior into a Tyranid Prime and stick him with the Tyrant Guards and my Tyrant.
Is there no other competitive list than genestealer spam? I have always fancied a massive horde of lesser ‘nids, a wall of hormagaunts zoom across the table while termagants lurk on any objectives (possibly with Tervigons supplying a few reinforcements) and deep strike/burrowing specialists try to take occupy the biggest threats. It would be bloody (and bloody expensive £!) but could it work?
Of course there are other competitive lists. Check out 3++ for a series of articles on Tyranids and some effective army builds.

^^ I agree – Kirby has a great series of articles on Nids. Also how to build a list so that the big bugs compliment the little bugs.
Most of the competitive lists are build around Hive Guard, T’fexes, Tervigons and Termagants.
yeah i think tervigons with a swarm and maybe a trygon or two is pretty good. Maybe its not SO competitive that it would do that well in a tournament, but theres a few lists for tyranids that seem good enough for most settings.
“I’m sure someone’ll correct you in the comments”
You better believe it. Me and my 1st edition Space Hulk mission/background book are here to save the day.
“Genestealers reproduce by a method which is vastly different from humans. There are no ‘male’ or ‘female’ Stealers; Stealers are incapable of mating with each other, and they are unable to bear their own young. Stealers reproduce by infectiong other races with their genetic material.
Stealers are strong psychics. They are able to paralyze their victims with their gaze, in much the same way snakes terrify their prey into immobility. If a stealer concentrates all of his energies upon dominating its victim, only the strongest willed can resist. Once a victim is dominated the Stealer infects him, passing on its genetic material in an obscene parody of a kiss.
The Genestealers’ long supple tongues are equipped with ovipositors (egg layers). When a Stealer ‘kisses’ a victim, the tongue pierces the skin, leaving an egg behind. After a victim is infected he is released. Whether as a by-product of the Stealer’s hypnotic gaze or as a result of the hormonal secretions of the egg itself, the victim has no memory of the implantation, he sees the entire episode as a nightmare of fear, and burning eyes.
A subtle psychic link is established between the Stealer and its victim. The Stealer can influence the victims’ thoughts and actions without the victim realizing that he is being manipulated. The Stealer uses this power to give its victim one overwhelming desire; to mate and have children.
Because of the damage to the victims genetic structure, though he mates with his own kind, his children will be hybrids, part victim race, part Genestealer. Until the fourth generation, the hybrids are sterile, able to procreate only via the Genestealer method.”
Where Geiger’s Aliens preyed on certain primal fears, such as rape anxiety and parasite infestation, I think the Genestealers are even more brilliantly well-thought out as a horrible alien menace. The Genestealer’s embrace is more of a violation than that of the Aliens, because the kiss is typically thought of as being more tender and intimate than an anonymous impregnation, and here it is turned on its head and becomes an essentially violent act.
Where Geiger’s Aliens were designed to appeal to feminine fears, the Stealers are made to be threatening to men. They’re scary because they make their victims less masculine, paraliyzing them with fear, forcing them to “receive” the Stealers’ act of reproduction, invading and infesting the planet (the territory) the man is duty-bound to protect for his own peoples’ life and well-being; and cuckolding them by forcing them to produce, and to spend the rest of their lives raising and providing for, the Genestealer’s progeny rather than their own.
To be able to own an armoured list, just bring 3 zoanthropes. S10 Ap1 lance psychic attack. Also, any enemy psykers within range have to take psychic tests on 3 dice, instead of two, and a double 1 or a double 6 forces them to roll on the perils of the warp chart. Zoanthropes are amazing psykers and amazing anti-psykers. Oh, and they get a S5 Ap3 small blast template, so if there’s no vehicles, you can OBLITERATE anything in power armour.
With the DoM, you forgot to mention the amazing 3+ inv save. 10 wounds, max, 3+ inv save, usually you’ll get more than 2 rounds.
Ah, forgot, the Zoanthropes have the 3 inv save, too.
Just to add, deepstriking the DoM can be risky, ’cause it’s not synapse.
I think to balance ‘fexes, and to make them worth their points, they should have an ability called something like “Monsterous Charge.”, where they build up so much momentum from charging ’cause they’re so heavy, that they get the following:
The ability to tank shock.
The ability to charge into combat at 12″ instead of the usual 6″.
Fleet.
I2 on the charge, instead of I1.
yeah carnifexes really need a boost, but at the moment much rather take a trygon or something like that much more useful for the points. Quite a cool rule though
REASONS WHY ZOANTHROPES SUCK!
1.Tale a Psychic test yes before you fire you have to test and you have test for each model in the brood don’t forget.
2. Roll to hit so after you test unless you are firing the blast that is 24″range S5 ap3 assault 1 you have to roll to hit so we are up to 2 rolls and you have not done any damage yet!
3. Roll to damage so if you roll a one here you will not be so happy. If you are using the lance but if you are using blast you have a larger chance to fail isn’t that nice not to mention you only have an 18″range(lance) perfect for Thunder wolf cavalry to charge you!
4. Lets face it you want to use the lance to take out Av 13-14 that’s why people tell me I have to put this craptastic unit in my list in an already cramped elites slot. So now you after you have rolled to test rolled to hit now you have to roll to penetrate with any S10 lance at Ap 1 it should be easy but that’s not all folks after you get the pen you have one more step.
5. Now you have to roll to see what damage you have done and if you roll a one you stun lock that’s it. So lets re-cap shall we! Roll to test roll to hit to roll to wound/pen roll to damage on the vehicle chart. This is 4 rolls you have to make to do damage it’s to many to be reliable.
6. Now here is where for me the Zoans get really bad I play Eldar Wolves Dark Angles SM BA. All of these armies have psychic defense. Eldar are the worst because they make me take wounds if I don’t make my invulnerable saves. If I play wolves they can stop them from shooting on a 3-4 up (3 if they take Najal) and if they keep them in a vehicle I can’t use shadow in the warp on them 🙁 . Dark angles can shut me down board wide SM and BA also have a chance to shut down these zoans from firing there 18 inch guns. So I have to move up in to charge range and pass 4-5 (if there is a hood or runes) rolls just to get off a shot the short range puts me in charge range and after all that if I am playing someone that is smart they will have popped smoke or taken cover for a 50% chance of nullifying my damage.
So I wont run them any more and no I wont use a T-Fex because he sucks too.
ur an idiot markdawg
3 zoanthropes make it a lot more reliable y dont you go and sit down to work out the averages and ull find that three zoans in a pod will on average imobolise or reck a landraider got any other points on which u have no basis to comment on
3 trygons in a list always seem to get the better of me along with 2 tervigond giving them feel no pain.
can you guys do a tau one?
