Now for the Conclusion of Warren's first game of Mercs. It's been one hell of a fight so far but will he win, or will his CCC fall to the mighty Sedafu?
OMG it’s horrible. Sorry to be blunt but it’s enough for me to learn one game. No offense I just cant get behind it. I’ll hold out for Daemons week. I understand other may love it and good on them.
These vids are 45 mins long each. They have went live about 10 mins ago. Your post is astonishing in its ignorance.
Sad times when this is what GW recruitment brings to the community.
I started with this one first and it was all i could do to watch you fumble around being your uninteresting self for more than a minute.
I understand that you may not like the game, however, perhaps you should add structure to your dislike for the game. Unless you do so, how can people make it right? I for one really enjoy Warrens involvement in the videos and think he does a sterling job. If you don’t like him, fair enough, each to his own, you can’t like 100% people 100% of the time. But not a single thing in your statement was constructive. These tutorials are aimed at everyone, from the experienced power gamer that beats their children for reciting rule 3753 on page 347… Read more »
I agree with broadside. It’s great to see Warren back on cam, his enthusiasm is contagious and his approach to gaming (have fun and do cool stuff, winning is secondary) is how we like to play. Looks like a nice little game and the week is doing a great job of bringing me up to speed with it. I am just trying to decide which faction to go for, probably the CCC but I do like some of the FCC minis. Keep up the good work and thanks for the effort you guys put in to make this the best… Read more »
@warzan you do a great job and these videos have done what no amount of persuasion my club chairman has attempted to do… Get me into mercs! gonna go and look for what faction i like when i get back from things tommorow thank you for being excitable. 🙂 Keep up the good work one thing though…although i understand the reaction, I am afraid I’m a little annoyed at the slur on GW recruitment as it’s how i was introduced to the hobby and i know all the staff I’ve met in those those shops would be horrified by what… Read more »
Backing the CCC…oh and Warren of course lol…but mainly the CCC on the ground 😉
CCC Were very cool indeed 🙂
I er.. claim ingnorance.. don’t understand the game .. *chortle* .. ok, I tried, hey getting a chance to fly over there sounded to good. hehe. Great job with this demo and really looking forward to future vids. I love it when you get the merc-eye-view with the camera. GJ.
I liked that video, good use of the handycam there , made whats going on very easy to follow. I have to say the game impresses me too, I took up infinity off the back your first infinity week, and as mentioned in the backstage thing, with my interest in current 40k waining with each new release (we still play 2nd edition and have lots of fun with it) I can see giving this a try as well. Only having 6 minis to paint is a real bonus too. Looking on wayland, the kemvar are the minis that caught my… Read more »
Warren, Lucas, et al. Thank you. Both of these gameplay videos helped me to understand Mercs a lot more, so much so that I’ve just downloaded the QS rules, the cards and scenarios the try out. Payday can’t come soon enough 😉
Sorry not feeling this at all. It just seems a bit bland in its mechanics. I must admit now I have seen the minis on the table they are more impressive than the videos I saw posted from worthy painting. However the whole videos (and yes I have seen them both in there entirety) seemed a bit lackluster and not very engaging. I know it is your job to promote the hobby and act as ambassadors for new game systems. I got into Warmachine due to BOW so it does work what you do. However I feel with this product… Read more »
Hopefully you will stay tuned to the next 2 missions as we introduce more and more of the rules.
IMO the depth is definitely there, but it is a simple and quick game to get into.
Comparisons with infinity are obvious and very fair to be honest. But settings are vastly different and this game is an easier game to venture into for those that are time limited etc and want a cool 2nd game to play.
Horses for courses really.
I want this game to do well, but it’s just not my style. As an Infinity player, the miniatures just aren’t up to the standard I look for, and Infinity also is a fast game to get into and play. Games in my local club at 200-250 points usually are done in 45 minutes. But each to his own. Like I said, this game just doesn’t catch my attention, but the creators really look like they tried to make this game wholly their own and not a knock off of other games or just some random Kickstarted upstart. Best of… Read more »
Hey guys, love the video love the game, just thought I would point out that all semi auto rifles get two attacks vs one target. I might have missed the rolling but you fellas seemed to be only rolling one attack. Anyway just thought about that while watching really enjoyed it and can’t wait to see what comes next.
Conrad
Thanks for the heads up Conrad! Ive had so much fun with this game I’m even enjoying watching myself play – which is weird lol
I noticed that you guys were only rolling one dice for the Semi-Autos instead of two. Warren could have cleaned up with his remaining Assault Leader while Lucas was spending his actions repairing. The demo gave a good feel to the structure and flow of the game. Like any demo with a new player things may seem disjointed and the mechanics might look a little wonky. Two ACM’s they didn’t use, Overwatch and Suppression, give even a greater tactical depth to the game. subatomica, try watching the batreps on Snap To Cover.com. It gives you a better look on how… Read more »
We have two more full battle reports coming this week, things get tighter and more hectic as each mission progresses 🙂
nice video warren was that a matrix shot when the world turned upside down on close cam. for the people who didn’t enjoy the game i would say try it first as watching and actually taking part are 2 completely different things. The only problem I myself saw was the use of cards to make templates. as this would be a problem due to my medical condition i have with my hands.
Dane
Hi Dane
Yes that’s a very good point about the cards and issues with ‘dexterity’.
Leave that issue with me mate…
Even without a medical condition the cards look a bit clunky to use. I can see the benefit of having everything you need to play in as few components as possible but I am sure with enough consumer interest a set of plastic templates wouldn’t be out of the question.
Hey guys, nice videos. Just one question, are you planning to publish the scenarios you are playing during the videos?
Let me look into that, they are pretty simple missions but let me see what we can do 🙂
Good battle report/tutorial format. MERCS is a great little game, been onboard since it came out a couple of years ago. Once you add the Suppression and Overwatch rules it becomes even more dynamic and narrative. Oh, and remembering that you get 2 shots a turn with a semi-auto makes it a lot more bloody 🙂
Love the minis and the world of this game. Would like to start playing it but sadly in our community i guess no one would start a new game :/
Great job guys. As a beginner game there were mistakes, but this did a great job of showing the flow and rhythm of the game. Look forward to seeing more of these. I’m a huge fan of giving games a story, and I’m excited to see how this one turns out.
Might be a stupid question but can you only take one of each unit type or is it possible to take multiples of the same unit? I.e 2 medics. Loved the vids btw keep up the good work
Recky in rules it’s specified that you can only field each unit type once 🙂
Hey Warren, I think you’ll find that when you shoot with the Asslt Ldr,Medic & Demo, you should have rolled 2 die, as the semi-auto wpn gets 2 Attks vs 1 tgt (written on the cards). if you had done that, it would have been a much messier affair!! 😉
The game looks interesting indeed. I’ve always overlooked it, but I learnt (or rather was sold) quite a lot in these to vids. The 3 x 2 board and small model limit makes for perfect quick games on the coffee table when one doesn’t feel like setting up the big full size boards. The only things I don’t like, is the card templates…only because I could see it getting a bit fiddly. Apart from that. Looks like a blast. I especially liked the initiative system, seems to make for a really on edge game. You can be sneaky with you tactics… Read more »
Great report on a cool looking game.
One question? The D10 initiative seems to create huge swings and might encourage safe play? Are their rules further down the line which change this factor (apart from the hold +2)?
That I know of there aren’t many rules to manipulate the Initiative. However the Keizai Waza leader allows you roll an extra initiative and assign it to another member of the squad, and the ISS sniper allows you to trade his initiative with another ISS memeber. I will say this sometimes the initiative rolls won’t go your way and sometimes they will and being able to deal with that is another part of the game that is learned through playing
But the videos were great for introducing people to MERCs. An idea I had whilst watching was that if Warren had put his Asslt Ldr on overwatch whenbehind the 1st barracade, it MAY(subject to the dice gods) have provided some covering fire for the Medic & Demo to get into a better asslt position. but Hey, this is just a learning curve for all of us, no matter what our level of xp is. Have been playing this game on/off for 18months & I learnt a few new tricks, and thought of a couple of new tactics to try on… Read more »
One a the best few sentences I have heard in gaming….
“My Sefadu have abilities that make them fearless…..”
“Oh I’m in a bad place, I get to turn 180 degrees for free and run away”
Warren can fear the fearless!! Must be the -5 charisma. Only joking big man, loved it when you shot your load into the sefadu. 😛 hehe
Nice video, even if a bit subdued to the normal giggly, flappy arms of Warzan. 😀
It seems like when warren got down to the one guy, was just dragging things out repair his armor rather then unloading his shotgun on his gunner, Or later on throwing a greanade with the demo to finish off the aussault leader quicker. Am i missing something or was that intended to show a few extra turns of play and the repairing of armor?
I really, really like the look of this. Random factor still there but letting anyone get a look at your fellas is very likely painful, so the emphasis is on movement and use of cover. Exactly what a skirmish game should be!
All looks all pretty straight forward but you can fly me over there if you like.
I’ll probably download the cards and play with some proxies first. If friends get into the game then I will too, there’s always going to be room in the case for 6 models.
I will keep watching the vids but to be honest the minis don’t really do it for me and the cards are interesting but I would like templetes for the templete weapons kind of unweildly with the cards for me. Loved the Heavy Gear week you guys did and look forward to other game systems.
I’d like to publicly apologize for being rude and childish towards Warzan. It will not happen again in this or any other forum. I am truly Sorry Warren.
Good on you @snurgle for being a man and fessing up on when you over stepped your bounds. Warren and the team go to great lengths to do such videos and entertain us. Being Warren’s first try at this game I’m not surprised it took some time to complete or seemed scattered at moments. In any case you learned your lesson as well as many of us. Be considerate with peoples efforts and work. You never now who will read them 😉
Forget about it, and let’s get on with gaming 😉
