With 6th edition Warhammer 40K well and truly settled in the guys have a look at one of the fundamental changes to the main game and how its going to affect your tactics against your friends when playing secondary objectives.
What do you guys think? Will you be playing with them, or will you leave them for when your going to your local tournament?

Assuming someone’s gonna die in the game this is effectively a 2 point objective (if you get it they can’t).
Well if the rumors be true about dropping down the rail gun 2 str not sure how much longer they will be in this list of first blood.
S8 AP1 is still nasty, and rumours have it that the hammer head still gets S10 AP1.
i think it is the most vital secondary objective BUT in a game with multiple objectives or the kill each other scenario it becomes less so. for example, i can lose a rhino oh you have first blood… but theres 3 objectives if i can sit on 2 of these all game the best you can do is draw (assuming objectives are 3 points each). In kill each other, oh you have first blood from popping my rhino ok you have two points… but I’ll take out your terminators and suddenly your unit that can actually kill my stuff is… Read more »
I rarely get first blood – and I still hammer the other opponents lol
I do agree with you guys. An objective that can only be claimed by one opponent is vital. Even if it’s only worth one point. The games I played are usually won by a couple of points so it could be the difference between a win or a draw (or even a loss).
This isn’t cheese, I’d call it tactica. I’d love to see more stuff like this though, rather than the usual, pointing out how broken 40k is.
Always nice to have that check mark against your tally sheet as early as possible. It’s like the first try in Rugby, it immediately means the opponent HAS to gain something back and like the guys say all other things are 1 for 1.
I also prefer this straight advice to the usual cheese.
If you pop a dedicated transport (say a rhino) but the squad inside survives, do you get ‘first blood’ for the vehicle?
Yes. They’re only one unit for the purpose of FOC.
My favourite way to get first blood is using an Icarus Lascannon in the Aegis fired by Telion. If I get turn one, I single out an IC, otherwise a low armour vehicle. If he goes first, I try an Intercept if he has a unit that can DS first turn (e.g. drop pod). My best one to date was going second, but I did an intercept one shot instant death kill of Belial who deep struck with a squad of terminators. That gave me first blood and warlord – in His first turn 🙂
