Necron Lord with War Scythe and Mind Shackle Scarabs….best Sargent Type ever 🙂 Then you can through in the armor upgrdes and your laughing.
would it be worth giving a plague marine champion a power fist still? ok he’s going last but he’s got T5 and FnP over a normal sergeant which makes him that slight bit more survivable to actually squish someone with it.
This actually happened to me once. a SM squad charged my Firewarriors and my Shas’Ui Challanged the Sergeant with a powerfist to a duel… and then punched him in the face.
I laughed so hard I hurt myself.
I now use a powersword and melta bombs on all my champions, it seems to work well and be cheaper than a power fist
what happends if there not a sgt in the squad like greyhunters *say my rhino blows up and takes the wolfguard with it* what do you do with challenges then
No character no challenge.
I was thinking the same, especially with the likes of Death Company who can load up on special weapons.
doesn’t the power axe go last now (with a +2 S buff)?
that is true, i guess darel overlooked that
S+1 Buff… goes last… but AP:2!
Very good. We’ll be doing a video on it soon. 🙂
unless he’s a space wolve with a frost axe, mmmm +2s
The Powerfist Plague Marine would live through most troop character challenges. Actual some of the HQs seem to be a good match against regular Plague Marine Sergeant. With the Grey Hunters, since they are no Characters, there can not be a challenge. You can say that they are literally fighting as a pack to survive. I already got rid of my power fists and power weapon sergeants and just purchased another full tactical squad instead. There are so many objectives including the line breaker so it just seemed a need to do so. Plus flamers and multi meltas come free… Read more »
i can’t find that if you are fearless you have to accept the challenge, only if it is a 1 man unit
also if you have powerfist sergeants, you can still use them for vanguard normal veterans so they can’t be challenged
tervigon also looks nice for challenges but he is not an upgrade character :p
I do like these simple, short tips videos. Its excellent the way a technical, maybe cheesy idea is clearly explained – how it works, why, what the alternatives are, differences between armies. I’m also guessing they dont take too long to set up and do, so its pretty easy for you guys to do.
More please!
Not entirely shure if I am willing to give up my power klaws for big choppas on my nobs leading boyz. Especialy since they will never have higher initiative than three, with the new furious charge rule change. Even though they will be at a mighty strength seven on the charge, no AP value whatsoever puts me off. But thats whats been putting me off from the deff rolla as well, so I’ll just have to test both a few times:-P But I will be giving them the ‘eavy armour upgrade for any precision shots with low enough AP value,… Read more »
I still see the usefulness of the powerfist overall as a good anti tank weapon but I might swap one out for a bog standard power weapon
cant say ive ever taken a power fist even in 5th ed as i like to get my hits in 1st so really like the new challenge rule
Maybe the following setup would be the solution.
Squad without attached leader: Sergeant > powerweapon (Swiss powerweapon if you want to be the smart one)
Squad with attached leader: Sergeant with powerfist
If a challenge is issued to the 1st setup than youre serge and the opponents serg are likely to go at the same time.
If challenge is issued with 2nd setup than its tough luck for the opponents serge as he has to deal with that HQ that will most likely kill him.
One of my PK Nobz once beat Vulkan he’stan. My friend rolled really bad on his hits, so only 1 hit or something, but didn’t wound. Then my nob came in and crushed vulkan xD it was rather funny since the nob was on his own (30 boyz died)
I still use my justicars with hammers and dark angel sergeants with powerfists.
I’ve been to a few tournies now and they still seem to work more often than not. I still think they are worth it.
In stand alone tactical squads I’m going with power sword, bolt pistol and melta bombs. Cheaper than the PF guys and usually lives long enough to get those 3-4 AP3 attacks. The MB is better against vehicles than a PF & works now against MCs.
If I’m putting an HQ with the tactical squad, then I’ll play the Sarge with a combi-weapon and powerfist.
It does also come down who the Dice God’s favour.
It’s also a good note that purchasing a powerfist and a lightning claw both count as two specialist weapons, therefore giving an extra attack depending on which you would like to use in that assault phase.
I run my Blood Angel Assualt Squad Sergeants with Fists and Storm Shields, that way you have a 3++ then a 5+ FNP (attached priest), he has the best possible chance to survive and then can punch his opponent really hard when it comes to his turn to swing. Also good at one shotting IC’s that are T4 or less.
In 5th I used to run a unit of ork boyz with a tooled up warboss in it to give it that extra punch, I honestly don’t think it’ll work as well as it used to anymore as he is going to be challenged at every opportunity. His powerklaw attacks + attack squig just won’t be tearing apart the enemy infantry like it used to.
Really surprised the Grey Knight Justicar with a Warding Staff didn’t rate a mention. Surely they will rule character challenges ?
