If you just can't get enough of all things Heavy Gear, then you'll be excited to hear about the new collaboration between Dream Pod 9 and Stompy Bot Productions to license a new Heavy Gear video Game!
Here's some information from their joint press announcement:
Stompy Bot Productions, Inc. (www.stompybot.com) and Dream Pod 9, Inc. (www.dp9.com) have announced the exclusive licensing of Dream Pod 9’s Heavy Gear® franchise for PC, mobile and console 3D gaming to Stompy Bot Productions.
The Heavy Gear® franchise has released dozens of sourcebooks detailing the settings, people, and machines of the Heavy Gear® universe. The first Heavy Gear® computer game, titled Heavy Gear®, saw light in 1997 and its sequel, Heavy Gear® II, was released in 1999. An animated series was also aired in 2001. The Heavy Gear® game line includes an innovative mix of RPG/wargame books, card games, miniatures and other products.
“We’re very excited to bring Heavy Gear® back to the current generation of gaming fans,” said James Taylor, President of Stompy Bot Productions. Robert Dubois, President of Dream Pod 9, said “Dream Pod 9 looks forward to working closely with Stompy Bot Productions in developing the next incarnation of Heavy Gear’s 3D video game. Stompy Bot has the drive and talent to bring the world of Heavy Gear® to life for all of our fans and a whole new generation of gamers.”
What look forward to seeing some of the cool things these guys can bring to our gaming screens from the deep history and spectacular imagery of Heavy Gear.
What do you guys think?
What would you like to see... MMORG? FPS? RTS?
Oh thank F**K for that! I was worried that the Heavy Gear videogame line was going to end with Heavy Gear 2 – which, while very good, is now pretty ancient. Although I’d love to see another sim that builds on the versatility and agility of the Gears, something tells me that this could be a more casual game like Mechwarrior Tactics. But honestly, I think I’d be okay with that.
Gears > Battlemechs any day of the week 😉
Great stuff! Brings back some memories
Yes I recall the older games under the Heavy Gear banner and they where great. This game has a lot to live up to.
Heavy Gear 2 on PC was great game that really showed how agile gears and I might still play it if I get chance. After I don’t really care about grafics compared to gameplay outdated grafics are not problem to me.
These days, the only hurdle to playing Heavy Gear 2 is modern technology, which does not play nice with the game. I think I saw a workaround to fix things under Windows 7. I’ll have to see if I can find it.
mm, maybe wine on linux?
or virtual PC/vitualbox/qemu etc
Here we go, the fix for the GFX issue under Windows 7:

Hope they keep the “Ping! BOOOM!” sound when armour is being pierced in a bad place, causing the gear to blow up completely 🙂
this defines heavy gear for me 🙂 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_GB5WLWvrsE&feature=plcp
definate fav tune in the series

awesome track, video-games really embraced the electro-industrial genre back then. Still remember how awesome it was to hear cubanate on gran turismo and frontline assembly in Quake3.
my thoughts exactly … front line assembly is immortal 🙂 sonic mayhem did his part as well
Yeah I always liked the way they represented the chance of armour penetration. It wasn’t a case of “Gun X does Y damage” – instead, each weapon seemed to have a varying chance to penetrate the opponents armour based on the strength of the weapon and the thickness of the armour.
I used to love running around with a VLAAC and peppering the enemy with hundreds of rounds. A lot more of the rounds went “PING!” instead of “PLUNK!” but it was satisfying all the same!
Great news! Another add to watch list due to the BoWs
I used to f’in love the Heavy Gear PC games.
I hope this lives up to their legacy and not blow chunks.
me and a mate used to play heavy gear co-op, one of us would do piloting and the other would do weapons. Great fun 😀 Hope they avoid the temptation to make it a bog standard FPS on consoles with a lazy PC port.
Hell yeah I have been waiting for years was hopeing for another SIM like the HG1 and HG2 but this will do I hope its good and dose the game justice.
two comments:
First this is awesome news and i can’t wait to see the game.
Second: There is a game studio in SJ that might make something decent??? This is more interesting the the game itself. I am only an hour and 45 mins away from them.
There seems to be a kind renessance of old great game IPs at the moment. Most of them have had videogame classic game version or versions in the past. In the coming year we’re getting a new Mechwarrior game, a couple of new Shadowrun games and now a new Heavy Gear game. I really couldn’t be happier.
Lets not forget Wasteland! proud backer of that one
table top wargames out there! make theme songs for your games, release them (and other battleworthy tracks) on cd with rulebook releases etc.
Wait, who’s actually developing it? Stompy Bot Productions seems to be just a publisher from what i can see. (Correct me if I’m wrong)
I do hope that their at least similar if not the same as the older games.
