Black Library Writer Joins Lord Inquisitor Movie!
February 15, 2012 by dracs
Games Workshop has decided to give The Lord Inquisitor fan film a 100% green light which means we can now find out who will be writing the story for this 40k film.
That's right Black Library writer Aaron Dembski-Bowden will be providing the plot for this great animation and I for one am really excited to see a Black Library author on board for this.
Just to whet your appetite further, check out these latest images of the servoskulls and Grey Knights Strike Cruiser.
Anyone else getting excited about this?

Aaron, is an interesting choice for this, I like him.
His work on the night lord’s books was great, i’m expecting great things from this project when it’s finished.

I’d say hes not a weird choice because of how well received his latest books are, he’s meant to be doing the world eaters one for BL which is a pretty big deal.
Is he doing an actual novel? As far as I knew, I thought it was just an audio book.
Sure it is a good thing. Lord inquisitor snippets seem quite promising. If GW is giving it a green light and sends in one of it’s writers for help, the project must be on a good way. I’m sure it will be better than “Ultramrines’ which was a load of cow poop. Hope they will do something big with it.
I’m actually hoping it won’t be longer than 40 minutes. I like animated shorts. A full length film might be a bit too much for their first attempt.
Hi all, Ben again here, for those of you who dont know Ive been one of the 3d artists working on Lordi since the get go almost 2 years ago. I just want to clarify that although GW gave us the green light, they by no means ‘sent in a writer’ for us. Rather Aaron was personally driven to contact us in regards to joining the team and helping in anyway he could, for the sheer fact that he was very interested in the project itself. The writing may/will of course take some time and its a collaborative effort. Now… Read more »
this is brilliant news for all 40k fans , we finally get to see the world of 40k in a film. this is needed although the games are awesome , I feel it is about time we got given a film to show the true bloody battles of the imperium and hope to see a lot of aliens
cough (tyranids and necrons) & and some tau & even a small helping of eldar (dark)
Well we already have a 40K film…
Oh did I say film? I meant abomination, sorry about that. 😉
would be way cooler if they would scratch their money together, find some sponsors in addition and would make a film ( or a trilogy) on the same level as Star Wars or Star Trek oder LotR .
Now all that’s needed are some great voice actors from the British Isles and we will be sorted, suited and booted.
BoW Ben
If they want I’ll apply.
BoW Sam
British voice actors and work out the jerky animation thus far and yes, it will be a must be to watch.
Oh come on, the Scene with the Grey Knight with the heavy weapon? thats like 3 frames over and over again, that one scene ruined the whole trailer for me.
agreed , I think they should get the same actor you done the voice of captain titus in the space marine game. his voice seems to go well with the ever lasting war of 40k alone with some other good actors – Christopher lee might make a good inquisitor voice 🙂
OK guys let’s hear it, who do you think would be a good voice actor for this film?
BoW Sam
nope… 😛
BoW Justin
Andrew Sachs could play the lovable but thick-headed sidekick. He’d have to be all Spanish in order to give the movie some much needed “real-world inquisition” flavour.
Katy Perry could do all the demons
Eric Idle could be some kind of chaplain who motivates the squad in moments of absolute despair by singing “Always Look on the Bright Side of Life”
and finally…..I’d add Tony Robinson as a Chaos Space Marine who always has a cunning plan.
when I read the last comment about Tony Robinson it made me laugh so much 🙂 good joke
Don’t worry Mr Abaddon for I have a cunning plan.
BoW Sam
You know they say somewhere there’s a bolter shell with your name on it…well I thought if I owned the bolt with my name on it I’d never get hit by it…
Every Blackadder quote gets a thumbs up by me
I hope his foot dosnt drop off because that s what happens when you have a good idea
PRAISE THE EMPEROR :D!
Huzzah.. Aaron! Aaron!
Just to know that GW has sided with this indie film is great news on it’s own. To know that a well known writer of GW books is like iceing on the cake.
This is probably the best news I’ve heard concerning this movie project. Not sure if it’s entiry fan made anymore, but who cares! I personally really want to see this one finished.
Everyone on the team is still a Fan at heart, everyone has a 40k background of some sort. I personally have always been gamer where as Erasmus and a few others have just been faithful book readers. But everyone had to show some sort of commitment and excitement to the 40k universe itself to really be considered onto the team. So itll continue to be 100% fan made, even though most of us are professional artists at studios by day, we are 40k nerds by night haha.

Great news, I hope it has a bit of a Necromunda feel to it also.
Well, I’m no Mark Strong, but I’ve thrown my hat into the ring of voice actors for the film, so we’ll see…
would be funny to have Darrell do a cameo as a heretic 🙂
BoW Justin
Thats intresting news.
Cool news, can’t wait. What ever happens it’s going to be better than the one we don’t mention lol.
Yeah, really excited when I saw ADB mention this. If you’re not sure about him read the Night lords novels he’s done…or The First Heretic. Awesome.
I’ll be picking up his work to hopefully familiarize myself with his writing style. Sounds promising.
hopefully this will mean that a line can be drawn under the Ultramarine turdfest from last year
That. Is. Frickin’. Amazing. My major problem with this project was writing, now it should be very nice.
Is anyone else a little turned on right now?
Remember when BOW was about game tactics and rules? I miss those days.
ain’t that long ago this just wouldn’t have happened so it’s got to be good. Fluff inspires the games for me
the ship looks too little gothic for my appeal … had to take a close look but as far as I see it it looks more like some ” metropolis” alike thing in space – the architectural pieces on it look like a mix of neo-classicism and modernistic stuff the rest is to my liking so far the one interior shot were the inquisitor stands on that balcony is great shows an awesome amount of detailing that went into the making so far hope they have the endurance to keep that level throughout the whole movie in the end.
nice to hear this as I was the environment modeler for the balcony scene ^.^ and Erasmus textured it. All of what we have done has stayed consistent to a very elaborate attention to detail. Look and feel is something that needs to feel 100% 40k throughout the film. I know that Andreas is a BEAST with his ship models and uses as much reference as he can gather between concept art, and miniatures, so most of his stuff should be pretty spot on. But as always we appreciate the fans feedback!
Regarding the topic, great news about ADB on board! As much as I like Dan Abnett, I thought the script/plot for Ultramarines was a little bit by the numbers, although I can understand that to an extent in that it had to be kept straightforward to appeal to an outside audience as well (“what about the lack of marketing for it though!” I hear you cry). Anyway, Soul Hunter and The First Heretic were absolutely terrific, so I’m looking forward to a similarly good script for this one. Certainly, as far as the graphics go, if it can be anything… Read more »
I am so glad to see this get the green light from GW, I can’t wait to see more!
