Black Hat Miniatures Give us Something to Abhor
July 3, 2012 by brennon
Twisted freaky aliens, mutants and infected are always cool and regularly have a use on the tabletop. So Black Hat Miniatures new model should surely be finding a place in your collection. Check out the Great Abhor...
Huge tentacled pincers, multiple screaming faces within its torso and that one sentient alien head in the middle. It's like something from The Thing or even Sedition Wars come to think of it! Would be a great enemy for any horror filled campaign on a role-playing scale as well as being used as the centre piece for some Sci-Fi adventure...
Will you be getting wrapped up by the Great Abhor?
That’s sweet. Funky generic alien tree men is what the world is missing. Really though, this is the sort of thing I’d grab in a heart beat if I found it at the LGS.
That sculpt has so much detail in it that dispite not being fan of design I really like this.
I think that thing redefines gribbly…it has a really twisted and fearsome look to it not just with the strange flesh textures and screaming faces but also (looking around the central head) hands merged into it. You could say this was absorbing souls as well as bodies and use it in fantasy settings as a different kind of demon to the traditional horned and hooved ones as well as in sci-fi as an evil alien beast or experimental bioweapon.
That is an excellent piece suitable for Gammaworld, Dark Heresy and any number of other RPGs.
Now I need a 28mm Isaac Clarke to fight against it.
Yes, oh good lord yes. Then use the models for a game of space hulk. Clarks as terminators and that thing as genestealers.
Well, you’re a bit late if you haven’t pledged already, but Sedition Wars is releasing a “not Isaac Clarke” limited mini in march 2013
I really dig the body, but the arms don’t look like they belong to it. Almost as though they were an afterthought, or maybe they had the arms lying around from a project that never turned out, so they had somebody sculpt up a body to put them on.
I would make them more tentacle-y, and no matter what I did, I would sharpen those claws up, or replace them with something a little more wicked, like some Tyranid scythes, or maybe even something more mechanical, like claws from a Cryx model.
