Ares Games Release Battlestar Galactica: Starship Battles Starter Set
December 13, 2018 by cassn
Battlestar Galactica - Starship Battles is a combat miniature game based on both the original and reimagined Battlestar Galactica TV series. Created by the same designers as Wings of Glory and Sails of Glory, this new Starter Set by Ares Games contains everything you need to lead your squadron to victory!
Battlestar Galactica - Starship Battles has an innovative game system with an easy-to-learn ruleset. Players take control of Colonial and Cylon spaceships and battle each other through missions and dogfights.
The Starter Kit includes four pre-painted, ready-to-use miniatures: two Colonial Vipers Mk. II (including Apollo's Viper and pilot card), and two Cylon Raiders with special control panels, playing bases and maneuver decks.
There are also combat rulers, spaceship cards, pilot cards, talent and flaw cards, and asteroid and planetoid templates - everything you need to traverse the galaxy straight out of the box!
The rulebook provides Quick Start rules to complete your very first dogfight, Complete rules to allow you the freedom to explore different scenarios, and Optional rules and features which add special elements to the game, such as pilots abilities, asteroid fields, and planetoids.
Players can add more spaceships to their game through additional starter sets or spaceship packs. The first Spaceship packs, which will contain different versions of Vipers and Raiders, will be released in February 2019.
The Battlestar Galactica - Starship Battles Starter Set was released in US stores on December 10th, but should be available in other countries within a few weeks, so keep your local game store on speed dial.
Time for a last minute Christmas gift maybe?

As much as I loved the OG series and liked the reboot… I don’t see that there is enough meat on the bones of that universe to have enough variety to be anything close to SW:X-Wing or ST:Attack Wing.
But when they release OG models I might get them just for display.
Then again … no need tp spend thousands of euros to get all the ships either 😉
I reckon we get a dozen ships at best.
I do wonder if they’re ever going to do Battlestar Galactica itself
hmmm …
I don’t think they’ll do. Even if they were to copy the “Epic” format of X-Wing a base star would be waaaaaay to big. And for an SW:Armada clone there just aren’t enough ship models. Even if you would base it on something like the PC game “Battlestar Galactica Deadlock”
I’d argue it would be more like Dropfleet commander (or Darkstar) with fighter combat reduced to tokens and dice rolls.
besides the Battlestar Galactica boardgame already kind of covers that strategic level.
That doesn’t stop me from wanting a display model of Galactica. 😀
Yes but the OG one. And a cylon base star to go with it
Like duh !
And a few vipers to set the scene … it’s not like we didn’t notice them repeating the same footage in every dogfight 😉
Or the same camera movement when passing a firing turret *g* Those where the days XD
That does look really good to me as some one who is big fan of NuBSG.
if you want to see some cool space rules – check out battlespace publishing – rules are free (but to modify custom ships requires payment) Its a labour of love by some gamers.
They’ve run demo games for many universes using their core rules.
Very good stuff.
lovely fighters.
When they do the original series models I’ll look at it.
